Stitched With Love Vintage Style Sewing Themed Folio for Mom

Hello, Friends!  Where would we be without Mom?  With Mother's Day fast approaching, today's post is a tribute to moms everywhere.  Many of us are without our moms on this day for one reason or another.  My own precious mom went to be with the Lord in 2005.  Instead of being sad over her absence, I've created a new Mother's Day tradition of preparing a special card or gift for women who have played a crucial role in my life.   Even though these women are not MY mom, I'm sure they appreciate receiving a special gift that lets them know how much they mean to me.  So I've created a lovely Vintage Style Sewing Themed folio using Kaisercraft's lovely Mademoiselle collection.  This folio is for my dear friend Karen, who is a master quilt maker. 

 

This is a 5" x 7" folio with a 1" spine.  The dimensional pocket on the front cover is decorated with gorgeous Botanica Pistachio Anemones, Red Vintage Velvet Pansies, Green Mini Garden Rosettes, Green Mini Mixed Blooms, and Cream Darjeeling Mini Blossoms. 

 

These blooms top a dimensional pocket that I filled with paper pretties.

Don't you just love the way that the buttons on this hand stamped vintage style button card pick up on the pansies in the flower cluster?

The spine is decorated with ribbon, a cluster of small charms, and a pretty button.

 

The album is just chock full of vintage charm, beautiful patterns, pretty flowers and interactive elements.

Hello, Friends! It's Kathy here wishing all the moms out there an (upcoming) very Happy Mother's Day!  I've been thinking about my mom a lot this past week.  She was an amazing woman, raising 5 children on a shoestring budget.  She always had a song in her heart, and worked from before dawn until after dusk: baking homemade bread, canning fresh fruit and produce from our garden, sewing and mending, cleaning and doing laundry.  I don't think I ever saw her sit down.  It was her love, humor and magic touch that made our house a home.  I learned so much from her, and we shared so many good times together that I cannot be sad on Mother's Day, even though she is no longer with us.  Instead, I celebrate her incredible legacy.  It was with her in mind that I created this altered frame using Graphic 45's Home Sweet Home paper collection. 

 

This all started with a 99 cent frame that I picked up at our local thrift shop.  (Mom would approve...she loved a bargain.)  It was in good shape, but made with really ugly wood.  I sanded, painted, stained and distressed it until I was finally satisfied with this rustic version.  Then the real fun began: adding images and glorious Petaloo flowers!

 

The frame measures just under 8" square and has nice deep openings that made it ideal for a 3-D project like this one.  I used scrap paper to create templates so my images would be sure to fit and line up inside the individual frames.  I hate to waste designer paper!  I chose Petaloo flowers in red, gold, blue and white to match the wonderful vintage hues in my papers.  The lace trim is from the White Fancy Trims Pack, and I love the gorgeous texture and vintage feel it adds to the frame.

 

This sweet couple looks pretty happy working away in the kitchen.  Hubby is making coffee, and Mother is making jam.  I fussy cut the hollyhocks from the paper collection and glued them down with Studio Matte Multi Medium.  Then I layered on Red Velvet Lilacs, Royal Blue Sugared Blooms, Sugared Berry Clusters, Royal Blue Sugared Minis, Ivory Burlap Blossoms and Yellow Mini Mixed Blooms.  My mom loved hollyhocks, and her flower garden was the prettiest one in the neighborhood.  I don't know how she found the time to coax such beautiful blossoms from our clay soil, but she did.  So this bouquet is for you, Mom!

 

To balance the design, I added a smaller cluster of the same flowers in the upper left hand corner of the frame.  Oh, how I love these pretty posies!  And, it looks like Mom baked a pie today...there it is cooling on the windowsill.

 

I found this vintage spoon in a flea market and knew I had to have it!  I've been saving it for just the right project.  I love the touch of elegance it adds to my Home Sweet Home sign.

 

 

Do you see the cute little nest with eggs in it?  I wrapped burlap string around my finger and then hot glued it in place.  I speckled the eggs with Copper and Blue mists from my stash.  Such a fun little way to draw attention to those cute chicks.

I'll close this post with one of my favorite quotes from Pearl S. Buck:

"Some are kissing mothers,

and some are scolding mothers,

but it is love all the same,

and most mothers

kiss and scold together."

 

So whether you are a kissing mother, or a scolding mother, this mother (who was of the kissing and scolding together variety) wishes you a very Happy and Love Filled Mother's Day!

Petaloo has teamed up with Creative Embellishments this month for a fabulous product exchange.  This means I had the opportunity to add Creative Embellishments chipboard to my cards.  That brings a giant smile to my face. 

 

Mother's Day is fast approaching so I created 3 cards with a feminine touch just for the occasion.  It'll be here in a blink and I'll be prepared.

 

 

This is my first card.  I used Maja Design's newly re-released Sofiero collection for each of my cards.  

 

Here is a close up of the embellishments on this card.  

 The gorgeous lavender flower is Petaloo's Darjeeling Anemone in Purple .  The accenting  cream flowers  are Petaloo's Darjeeling Teastained Cream Dahlias .

 

The floral cluster rests atop a sweet chipboard piece, Creative Embellishments Chipboard - Flourish Set 2,  I kept the chipboard the natural color and dabbed some white wash over the chipboard.  

 

 

This is the second card.  I love how delicate this feels.  I think this is the one that my mom will receive.  For this card, I used the following flowers:

The chipboard treatments were kept quite simple with just white acrylic paint and a touch of brown edge inking.

Now you may say to yourself -"hmmmm crazy Jennifer says she used Petaloo's Maroon Hydrangeas on this card.   And yet I see no maroon."  Well let me tell you how cool one packet of Petaloo Velvet - Hydrangeas in Maroon  can be.

The packet of hydrangeas has so many variations of color. I took a flower that had a little less maroon and more green and cream.  I cut it to add as the greens in the cluster.  I did not want to use the leaves from the package because they just were too big for my floral cluster.

Preparing for Easter with Petaloo

 

Easter is on it's Way at Petaloo

Hello.  Jennifer Snyder here to share my Easter decorations. Easter is fast approaching and I've been busy creating for the occasion.  Petaloo flowers are an essential part of my decorations adding cheer, pops of color and that extra gorgeous Spring touch. 

 

This is a table centerpiece created for the season.  It features some of Petaloo's exquisite fabric flowers in fabulous, festive purple and teal.  I think of those as wonderful Easter colors. 

 

 

Aren't the Petaloo flowers gorgeous resting around the bunny's neck?  Those flowers are:

The sweet little butterfly located near the bunny ears rests atop a bit of lace.  The butterfly,  

Petaloo Darjeeling Mini Butterflies in Purple , adds a darling little touch. 

 

I also embellished the bunny with some painted chipboard pieces from Creative Embellishments.  You can see more wonderful chipboard creations on their blog, here. I wanted the chipboard to be soft and subtle so they are simply painted white with a dab of green green distress ink. 

 

In the image above, you will also find the same Petaloo flowers as I have at it's neck.  I have provided  a side view to show some dimension.

As for the bunny shape- I purchased an unfinished wooden Easter bunny shape.  I painted with  white acrylic paint and added a layer of crackle medium to it after it dried.  This process took a few days since the crackle medium had to be thoroughly dry before I moved on to the fun embellishing phase.  Since this is a dimensional project to be placed on a tabletop, I needed to address both sides of the bunny and  could only do one side of the bunny at a time.

A Vintage Velvet Fairyland!

 

 

Hi there Petaloo fans!  I've created a fun little fantasy land using a Prima birdcage, a perfect litle string of lights from Creative Embellishments and the most gorgeous Petalo  Vintage Velvet Pansies.

 

Here it is in daylight.

 

 

I first used Petaloo's Darjeeling Green Hydrangeas to create my floral carpet and then layered the pansies over top. The clover and fairy are Creative Embellishments chipboard pieces.   

There are a couple Darjeeling butterflies flitting about too!

Every Puppy Should Have A Boy

Hi everyone!

Lynne here and today I'm sharing a layout with you of my grand-son Jackson and his friend Charlie the Beagle. These two, just love each other! So yes, Every Puppy Should Have A Boy!!

Once again, I dug deep in my stash to create this layout. Every year I resolve to use up as much of my stash as I can. I might be kidding myself into thinking I can ever use it all up!!! But I'm trying!

 For the background, I layered a some strips of patterned paper, then a wash of gesso. Once dry I added some Shimmerz in blue and orange. On top of that I ran some molding paste and dimensional paint in green through a stencil....these were layered over each other at the same time. Finally, I added strips of torn lace covered in the blue Shimmerz, then some stamping in orange, and some wriggly lines in a teal marker.

Here you can really see the texture I achieved with more dimensional paint, over the chippy keyhole. I used a brush and just dabbed it on.

Of course, my favorite part always includes adding flowers! Yes, even on boy layouts!! The Vintage Velvet Peonies, Briar Roses in Canvas and the Garden Rosettes, layer so beautifully together!! A few smaller blooms, Textured Mini Blossoms, Hydrangeas and Jeweled Florettes, complete the look.

 The gorgeous colors of these blooms, keep the look from being too feminine, but add enough softness to keep it from being too harsh.

Maggi with a Petaloo Valentine's Gift

What could be sweeter than a pretty box of chocolates and a pretty tag to accompany it?

 

 

 I altered  a small Graphic 45 matchbox for my chocolates.  It  holds 8 Lindt Lindor chocolates perfectly!  I used foam to pop up the center chipboard piece and then worked flowers around and underneath it along with the pretty bow. 

 

 Aren't these vintage velvet cherry blossoms so pretty?  I love how soft they are and vintage.  The velvet they are made from is really pretty and classy looking.

The Baby's Breath picks are such a great accent for the cherry blossoms.  I love their delicate appearance.

 

On the back of the box I worked in a couple of large Botanica blooms, they are the prefect filler for my box top.

 

I used a Cheery Lynn Designs diecut heart to take center stage on my tag.  I wanted to pop up the heart but its so delicate there was no where to hide the foam pop up tape. Soooo, idea!  I grabbed a large Tim Holtz acrylic square and place that underneath the heart.  That worked really well to give the dimension I was looking for.

Christmas Tradition Layout

Hello everyone! Time really flies and in a few days time, we will be celebrating the New Year! For today's project, I would like to share with you all a layout on a tradition in our family. Every year, each of my kids will get to decorate a small Christmas tree all by themselves for Christmas.

For this layout, I've used tons of beautiful flowers by Petaloo and the Classic Christmas collection by Authentique. Here are some details on it.
