Elegant Card and Gift Bag Set for Valentine's Day

Hi everyone!

Valentine's Day is fast approaching, and I have an elegant card and gift bag set for that special someone in your life.

I wanted this set to be elegant and romantic, and I wanted the Dahlias and Petite Flowers from the Darjeeling Collection, to take center stage. For this purpose, I chose a simple foil embossed and a small print floral paper.

The card base is pre-made from heavy weight card stock in white. I covered it with a piece of the embossed paper and then I created a raised frame with sticky back foam. The layering of the die cut foil embossed and the floral paper, creates a focal point for my flower layers. The wood heart was stenciled with molding paste, gessoed, and a final layer of pearl white paint was added.

I layered the dahlias and petite flowers with the pearl white painted die cut flourish and the gold thread, and then I tucked in the hearts and the mini leaves. These were edged with a metallic paint in pink gold.

The gift bag was made with the floral paper, and I added a smaller diecut rectangle as my closure. Magnets were used to hold it closed. Once again I layered my flowers over the flourish and metallic thread. You can really see the shimmer of the pearl paint on this flourish!!

Here's a closeup of the layered flowers. I made sure to glue my flowers so that they wouldn't interfere with the closure.

Pink Cheery and Festive Cards For Valentine's Day

 

 

 

 

Jennifer Snyder here sharing some Valentine's cards for February, the month of sweetness.  I have two cards adorned in pink - both gussied up with Petaloo's gorgeous pink flowers.   I think the happy cheery pink is a perfect balance to the dull chill of winter.  

 

This is a sweet dainty card showing the flirty side of Petaloo.  Along with the pretty Petaloo crocheted trims in white and fuchsia, I used the following Petaloo flowers to embellish this card:

 and the new Petaloo Ranunculus flowers in pink ( aren't they fabulous!)

Creating this card was easier than you think.  Here are a few simple steps I took to make this card: 

 

I stamped an image onto watercolor paper so that I could paint the dress. 

I used watercolor paper because it is heavy and will absorb the water from the paints.  Regular cardstock or patterned paper is not as durable when water is applied and tends to get mushy and disintegrate.  

I selected an ink that would not bleed or run when water is applied.  

 

After my image was stamped, I simply blotted watercolors onto the paper.  Easy!  No real skill needed.

My second card is equally bright and cheery.  It's a shaker card.  Who wouldn't love to receive a shaker card in the mail?

Off to the Races Honey Do List for Your Honey

Hello, Friends!  Valentine's Day is one of my favorite holidays and it's just around the corner!  Women tend to love Valentine's Day, but often find it hard to come up with a card or a design for the men in their lives.  So I thought I would share another fun Valentine's Day idea design with guys in mind.  

My husband loves to make lists.  In fact, he keeps a little list pad right beside his place at the breakfast table and writes down everything that needs to be tended to.  Sometimes, when we have a very long errand list on Saturday, we will look at one another and say, "Aaaaaaaand, they're off!"  This is just one of those silly things that makes a relationship so much fun, but it got me to thinking that making a handsome Honey Do List Notepad from Graphic 45's Off to the Races Collection would make a great Valentine's Day Card. 

This collection is loaded with patterns and images that work well on masculine projects.  To mimic the boutonnieres sported by these dapper gents, I created a mini boutonniere embellishment using Petaloo flowers and a snippet of ribbon.

 

 

This White Baby's Breath Pick serves as the base for the boutonniere.  It's topped off with a couple of Black Mixed Textured Blossoms. The black and white combo is classic and looks really handsome with the papers.

 

 

The front cover flips up to reveal a 4x6 sticky note pad and a tag/gift pocket.

I added an ephemera tag and some simple paper elements to the tag, but was sure to leave plenty of room for a mushy (more likely silly) Valentine note.  There's plenty of room in the pocket to tuck in a gift card or some yummy chocolate.

 

I hope this gave you an idea you can "run with" for Valentine's Day.

Maggi with a Petaloo Valentine's Gift

What could be sweeter than a pretty box of chocolates and a pretty tag to accompany it?

 

 

 I altered  a small Graphic 45 matchbox for my chocolates.  It  holds 8 Lindt Lindor chocolates perfectly!  I used foam to pop up the center chipboard piece and then worked flowers around and underneath it along with the pretty bow. 

 

 Aren't these vintage velvet cherry blossoms so pretty?  I love how soft they are and vintage.  The velvet they are made from is really pretty and classy looking.

The Baby's Breath picks are such a great accent for the cherry blossoms.  I love their delicate appearance.

 

On the back of the box I worked in a couple of large Botanica blooms, they are the prefect filler for my box top.

 

I used a Cheery Lynn Designs diecut heart to take center stage on my tag.  I wanted to pop up the heart but its so delicate there was no where to hide the foam pop up tape. Soooo, idea!  I grabbed a large Tim Holtz acrylic square and place that underneath the heart.  That worked really well to give the dimension I was looking for.

Valentine's and Appreciation Cards for the Ones you Love

 

 

Hello.  Jennifer Snyder here with you to share some Valentine's or "appreciation cards" with you.   I'm calling them "appreciation cards" because I  have an outdated and old fashioned way of thinking about Valentine's Day - as a day set aside for your true love.  However I have many loves in my life  which obviously include my husband but extend to family and good friends.  Many of these loves in my life need to be appreciated and thanked for the amazing goodness they share with me.  

Thus "appreciation cards" or my modern day Valentines.  

 

Since my post is about love and appreciation, my cards are not complete until they have been adorned with another love of mine - Petaloo flowers.   I have two cards to share and both have some beautiful flowers on them from the Petaloo Darjeeling collection. 

I hope you enjoy them.  

 

 

This first card is a simple design but the intention is quite clear.  It's obviously a card to show my love, but not overly gushy mushy love.  That I save for my husband, lucky man.  

I used Graphic 45's, Off to the Races collection for my cards.  You may think that's such an interesting choice for Valentine's Day, but the patterns and colors are so fabulous together  and work absolutely perfectly with my Petaloo flower choices.  

 

 In addition to the Graphic 45 paper, matching Graphic 45 chipboard from "Off to the Races", I've used the following Petaloo flowers:

I've also added a wonderful delicate heart chipboard piece from 2Crafty.  

 

 

This is the second card.  I'm sending it to my sister because she has the kindest heart and is such a helpful person who takes great care of my parents.  That certainly is a perfect reason to send a Valentine's appreciation card. 

 

The Petaloo Darleeling Dahlias Red looks wonderful paired with the Graphic 45 paper collection, "Off to the Races".  I have accented the red Petaloo Dahlia with some white pearl berries from Petaloo Spring Berry Cluster.  I also used the sweet hemp bow that comes with the Berry Cluster.  It's a perfect little topper.

Off to the Races for Valentine's Day!

Hello, Friends!  I just love Valentine's Day!  What could be better than a day set aside to shower the people you love with love....and chocolate, of course!  Nothing says "I love you" better than a hand made card or gift, so I thought I'd share a couple of ideas to inspire you as you get ready for Valentine's Day.  I love to make tags, so I have a super frilly and feminine tag to share with you.  While I had all my papers and flowers out, I went ahead and made a strong, vintage masculine card as well. Both items are made with Graphic 45's fabulous Off to the Races collection.

A Very Masculine Valentine

 

Masculine Valentines can be a real challenge to create, especially if you want to include flowers or ribbon!  This very masculine Valentine uses both, yet manages to keep from being too frilly or fussy.  The secret here is the color palette.  These deep browns lend a very masculine feel to the composition.  Adding flowers is also easier than you might think.  Choose flowers with lots of texture and neutral colors, like these Canvas Mini Rosettes. I flanked them with Cream Petite Darjeeling blooms to keep things from looking too drab.

Using metallic embellishments like the frame and brads gives this card a rustic, vintage feel.  Both were silver, but I tapped them with alcohol inks to give them the aged bronze appearance you see here.  For trim on a masculine card, burlap string always works!

I finished the inside of the card with a pocket on the left.  It's just the right size for this tasty chocolate treat. The belly band on the right adds a decorative touch while simultaneously providing a spot for you to write a special note for your Valentine. 

 

A Frilly and Feminine Valentine Tag

Valentine's Day is one of the few times when you can combine pink with red and get away with it, so I love using this unexpected color combo on my Valentines. The base is a G45 Staples Long Ivory Tag.  Using a combination of Petaloo Penny Lane blossoms with fussy cut flowers from Off to the Races works so well!  I used a small Ivory ATC tag to create a pocket for my chocolate treat.

A trio of Darjeeling Cream butterflies adds such a nice feeling of movement to the tag.  Your eye just follows them from the bottom all the way to the top of the tag.  They are the perfect finishing touch!

So whether you are making Valentine goodies for your favorite fella or your special lady, Petaloo flowers work wonders.  I hope I've shared some ideas that you will be able to incorporate into your own Valentine creations!

A Little Love with Petaloo

Hello Petaloo fans! It's Irene here with my first post for 2017! Today, I would like to share a simple "Love" tag with you featuring Petaloo gorgeous flowers with Graphic 45's Off To The Races collection. This is an acrylic base tag which you can see through on some parts of it.
