Favorite Movie

Hello!  Shellye here to share one of my favorite traditions of the Christmas season: watching "A Christmas Carol".  And it must be the 1938 version with Reginald Owen, Gene Lockhart, Kathleen Lockhart (yes, the Mr. & Mrs. Cratchit characters were married in real life!)...it's the best!

While watching the movie on my computer, I was able to "screenshot" different scenes as they came across.  I saved the images as jpgs and then printed them out with my home printer!  I created the layout using Graphic 45's "A Christmas Carol" collection.

After arranging the photos and main elements, I went back and added the round sticker letters to further expound the title of the page.

Next, the scroll chipboard piece was cut in half and added to the top and bottom of the photos.  I used the Teal Botanica Blooms,  Antique Gold Velvet Dogwoods and White Glitter Snowflake picks.

I attached the snowflake picks with a foam dot and then hid the pick part behind the flowers. 

These blooms match perfectly with this nostalgic collection!

A Christmas Carol Mini Album

Hello, everyone!  I'm so excited to be sharing this sweet "A Christmas Carol" Mini Album.  I love everything Scrooge, Tiny Tim and Father Christmas, so this collection by Graphic 45 was an absolute blast for me to craft with!

And of course, Petaloo velvet, glittered flowers and embellishments simply go hand-in-hand with this nostalgic paper collection.  I also grabbed some of the neutral pom pom ribbon to use as a trim around the oval die-cut.

But to begin the album, I used the Finely 4.5" X 5" die from Top Dog Dies to cut the chipboard base and matching papers.  I also used a 3.5" Oval Die from Spellspinders to cut the mats for each page.

I removed the cutely glittered snowflakes from their picks and added them to the page with a small adhesive dot.

I used various stickers and journal cards from the "A Christmas Carol" 12X12 Paper Pad to decorate the pages.  The Velvet Hydrangeas add a texture of softness.

Again, I used snowflakes from the picks to act as an accent around the sticker title.  The beautiful cluster of Sugared Berries was added with dimensional glue dots and then glued at the bottom of the stems with Beacon 3-IN-1 Glue.

Can't you picture a cluster of these beautiful Vintage Velvet Dogwood blooms on Mrs. Cratchett's bonnet? I just love them!

In true Graphic 45 fashion, the artwork found on all of the patterned papers are stunning!  I couldn't pass up using the sweet faces of Bob and Tiny Tim, so I used an oval die to cut it from the paper! 

In finishing, I bound the album with a simple ring tied with a large, red ribbon.  The edges of the chipboard were dressed in red/white baker's twine from my stash...I really like the finished look that this gives to albums!  Just use a fine point glue pen to hold the twine in place.

 Let's get the fun started with a CHRISTMAS APRON from Petaloo DT member ... Shellye McDaniel

 

 

Hello!  Shellye along today with a simple, yet festive "Christmas Apron" using Canvas Corp and Petaloo products!

I started with the a plain canvas apron and a square of plain canvas fabric.  The canvas fabric was heavily spritzed with "Kiwi" Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist and dried with a heat gun. 

The bottom and sides of the Kiwi canvas were folded in approximately 1/2" and then ironed to form a crease.  The fabric was centered onto the bottom of the apron and machine stitched around the sides and bottom to make a pocket.

I used a leaf steal-ruled die from EK Success to cut out green and natural colored burlap leaves.  The Burlap BirdsNest Flowers were spritzed with Red Chillies Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist and allowed to dry.  The Daisy Layers Burlap Canvas Flowers (printed) were sprayed with Dijon Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist and allowed to dry.

The Birds Nest flowers were layered onto the printed flower with fabric glue.  The burlap leaves were arranged around the edge of the grouping and glued in place.  Yarn and wax string were looped together into a bow and added.  The sleigh charm was added to a piece of leftover string, knotted at the end and then glued below the bow.

Red ric-rac from my stash was added to tie in with the red wax string.  The pocket on the front is nice and roomy and ready for display in the kitchen or wearing with making Christmas goodies!

 Let's get the fun started with Christmas TAGS from DT member Shellye McDaniel

Hello!  Shellye here with some fun tags featuring a few of pieces from Simple Stories' "Claus & Co." Collection and various florals and trim from Petaloo! 

I started with three of the Interactive Elements and layered them onto larger mats of 4X6 journal cards and patterned paper. 

The first tag includes the "matchbook" interactive piece.  The red Tinsel Trim was glued to around the back edge of the book before it was attached to the journal card.  To the bottom of the book, a cluster of pine cones, sugared blooms and textured pieces were added.

The second tag includes the pull-out pocket and tag as the focal point.  One of the cardstock stickers from the Collection Kit was attached at the top.  The tag was further embellished with a small bow of red metallic cording and two of the red Burlap Poinsettias. 

The final tag features the tri-fold interactive that was trimmed with a piece of red ric rac at te bottom.  The Pine Cone Pick w/ Berries was taken apart; the greenery was glued in place followed by one of the green textured layers.  The berries were snipped from the wire and glued to the center of the flower with fabric glue.  A large metallic bow and sticker sentiment completes the tag.

The tags can be added to gift baskets, bags or packages and then used for an ornament by the recipient.  These were so quick and fun to put together!

Let's get the fun started with a JOURNAL CARD project from Petaloo DT member Shellye McDaniel...

 

I started with the "Hearty" patterned paper for the base and layered it with an 11" circle cut from the "Prepared" patterned paper; the two were machine stitched together for an even comfier look!

Next, I cut a 10" label shape from the back side of the "Hearty" paper using a Silhouette SVG File.  It was attached to the center of the circle mat with foam adhesive.

I added a 4X6 photo and one of the cut-outs from the "Enhancements" paper.  The two hinge stickers were added to the side and then I used the Blue Chantilly Velvet Hydrangeas to form sort of a semi-circle design.

A cluster of the same flowers were added to the top left of the journal card along with some kraft colored twine from my stash.

Halloween Mini Treat Bags

Hello!  Shellye with you today.  I have crafted a quartet of mini Halloween treat bags using a few dies from my stash and several different types of Petaloo flowers. 

First, I die cut the bags (you could use premade bags also) using the Treat Bag Die from Top Dog Dies and papers from Authentique. 

Next, I die cut the Halloween shapes (also from Top Dog Dies) and attached the to the bag fronts with foam adhesive. 

I further embellished the die-cuts with stickers from the same Authentique collection and various Petaloo flowers that best fit with each design: Botanica Minis, Chantilly Mixed Blooms, Chantilly Velvet Hydrangeas and Burlap Blossoms.

I used Fabri-Tac glue by Beacon to quickly and securely attach all of the blooms in place!  To finish off, I added a mini paper clip tied with black/orange twine to the handle of each bag.  These are the perfect size for mini candy bars or a cellophane baggie filled with candy corn.  I can't wait to share these with my favorite trick-or-treaters!

Frightful Door Hanger

Hi, everyone!  Shellye here today with a cutely frightful Halloween door hanger or wall decor.

For the base, I used the Pumpkin Album Die by Top Dog Dies and covered them in paper from Authentique.  I used a scroll shaped die for the center and it also acted as a way to attach the two pumpkins together.

I added two oval shapes to dress up the sides of the ghost die-cut.  The outer edges of the ovals were trimmed with burlap twine that I dipped in Amethyst Color Shine Spray by Heidi Swapp.  I used a paper towel to soak up the excess spray and allowed it to dry before gluing into place.

For the flowers, I took three of the Wild Sunflowers and dipped them into Black Velvet Color Shine Spray.  Again, I used a paper towel to soak up the excess and then used a heat gun tool to finish drying the sunflowers.

To the center of the sunflowers, I added one of the Beaded Acorn Pick pieces...it added just the right amount of color!  I also used the leaves from the same picks around the center flower.

Again, all of the papers and die-cuts (except for the ghost, which was from my stash of decorations) are from Authentique's Spirited Collection.  I punched two holes at the top and strung through wire for the hanger.  All ready for hanging out on my front door!

Back-to-School Planner

My teenaged daughter loves getting a date calendar with each new school year.  We purchased one with a cute pattern on the front, but she always likes to pizazz up her school supplies!  This is what we came up with:

To begin, we started with a spiral bound planner, the DIY Cream Dahlias, chalk and some matching ribbon:

We tied pieces of knotted ribbons onto every third spiral.  Next, chalk and a chenille pom pom applicator were used to add color to the dahlias to match the planner cover.

With chalks, you can add various shades from a color family to achieve depth as desired.

Fabric glue was used to attach the flowers to the center of the knotted ribbons.

This project is so quick to put together!  It also makes a great back-to-school gift for a teacher or best friend!

Petaloo Products: DIY Cream Teastained Dahlias

DIY Summer Fun Pinwheels

Hello!  Shellye here today with a cute Summer display that can also double as party favors for your Summer soiree!

I started with a 6X6 paper pad from the "I Love Sunshine" Collection by Echo Park Paper.  Creating the pinwheels involves a single sheet of 6X6 paper (or any size) for each.  You can find easy patterns for making the pinwheels here. 

For the centers of the pinwheels, I used the small DIY Burlap Sunflowers.  To turn the blooms into their beautiful chartreuse color, I poured some Heidi Swapp Color Shine ink into a plastic cup and then dipped them one at a time.  The excess ink was tapped off and then the blooms were placed on a paper towel to dry (about 15-20 minutes). 

To further the embellishment of the pinwheels, I also colored the DIY Mini Butterflies with a blue alcohol marker and added them, along with a sticker from the paper collection.

The pinwheels were glued to a paper straw and added to the glass jar. 

Pinwheels also make cute package tie-ons or string several together to create a unique banner!

Kid's Monogram Decor

With a little craft glue, an assortment of Dahlias and a pre-cut wooden letter, your child can create this fun monogram project to hang in their room or to give as a gift!

I purchased the letter "S" from Michael's.  It measures 6"W X 8"H.  To begin, I arranged the paper dahlias so that they covered the majority of the letter.  Next, I used Aleene's Quicky Dry Tacky Glue to hold the flowers in place.  For older kids, or with close adult supervision, a hot glue gun would also work nicely. 

There were a couple of areas around the edges that weren't covered, so I cut one of the flowers into pieces and then tucked them behind a larger flower to fill in the gaps. 

A length of ribbon was glued to the back of the letter for the hanger and a ribbon bow added at the top.  This project took less than 30 minutes to make and would be loved by a girl of any age!  It's definitely so easy that a kid can do it!
