Kids projects with Cherry Nelson

             Hello folks, Cherry here today with a pinwheel tutorial!  The design team was challenged to come up with some projects that we could do with the kids.  My "kid" just graduated and he is a boy, so I thought I would take on some more girly projects that would be fun to do.  I have a quick tutorial to share in case you would like to make some with "the littles" this Summer.  First grab your flowers and fun papers and let's play!

Next mark your papers 4 inch x 4 inch and cut using your paper cutter.

Remember it is important to like both sides of each pinwheel...you will see both patterns. 

I usually like to come up with my own double pattern papers so I cut two pieces for each pinwheel and adhere together. 

 

I use mini clothespins to make sure they adhere together well. 

 

Next just simply cut each corner with scissors in about 2 inches....I never measure. I just wing it!

From here just fold over every other corner.  You will start to see the pinwheel shape. 

 

Here they are....pretty cute huh?

 

To secure them I use a diecut circle and adhere down and I also back them with one to make them more sturdy. 

 

 

 

Now it if time to have fun layering them up!  Kids can really have fun adding all kinds of goodies.....paper scraps, ribbons, buttons, and of course flowers! 

 

I added ribbons, layers, and mini clothespins that were topped off with the perfect touch...mini butterflies and the sweet petites!

 

 

 

Don't forget to add a dowel or straw to the back!!

THANK YOU ~ Mom!!

....growing up I know I didn't say
THANK YOU nearly enough!

Now that I am a mother and
a grandmother I have a 
GREATER UNDERSTAND
of motherhood and all that 
it encompasses!

So....this year I made my mother a
THANK YOU card for Mother's Day!

I had some left over Heidi Swapp papers
so I used it as the base of my card....
As the papers had a hint of teal to them
I decided to go with complementary colors 
for my embellishments!

The colors and designs of the Botanica Collection
are simply amazing!

I nestled the Faux Dried Floral Ephemera ~ Ivory
with a couple Botanica Minis ~ Teal
and Spring Berry Cluster,
along with a couple "colored" 
Wild Mini Blossoms ~ White.

I tied a piece of Fancy Trim ~ Peach
around the card.

Hello Petaloo friends!  I am so excited to be joining you today and sharing a project I created for the Spellbinding Blog Hop with Petaloo, Graphic 45, and Xryon!  As part of the Xryon team, I have already shared one project (you can see it here) featuring this fun collection of products.  Today I am excited to share with you a fun banner project that is quick and easy and packed with lots of layers!

For the base of my banner pieces, I used Creative Canvases by Cosmo Cricket.  I cut pattern pattern paper from the G45 Steampunk Spells collection to fit the front of each banner.  I ran each piece of paper through my 5" Xyron Creative Station to make it easy to adher the paper to the canvases.

I added a layer of vellum to each banner to help mute the colors of the paper so that the embellishments on top would stand out more.  Border Stickers along the top of each banner hides the Xyron High Tack Tape that holds the vellum on.  In the center of each banner where I planned to add embellishments, I used my Mega Runner to hold the vellum flat against the banners.

On the first banner, I layered a chipboard frame, a Petaloo chipboard die cut (colored with Dylusions Black Marble Spray Ink and Perfect Pearls Pewter Mist), a die cut letter B (Core'dinations Black Magic Cardstock adhered to matboard and die cut with Sizzix Serif Essentials Alphabet Die).  I accented the layers of assembled pieces with two of these sweet little Petaloo Petites from the Autumn collection.  I brushed each one with a bit of Vintage Photo Distress Ink using an ink blending tool so that they would be a little more grungey and match the ink applied to the other pieces.

For the center banner, the first O, I layered a chipboard tag, a mini die cut banner, a chipboard clock face, a die cut letter O, a sentiment cardstock sticker, and more of the Petite Autumn Flowers.

On the third banner, I layered a chipboard frame, another die cut letter O, a Petaloo die cut cat (colored with Dylusions Black Marble Spray Ink and Perfect Pearls Pewter Mist), and two more of the Petite Autumn flowers and leaves.  The cat's feet sit down inside the frame and his tail sticks out so that he sits at an angle.  I think it adds a nice touch of dimension aside from the other flat layers.

I attached the banners together using wire.  I added Petaloo Mini Mix flowers and chipboard buttons to the top two corners long with brown and white twine.

Isn't the Petaloo die cut witch and cat so fun?  I love the those piece take ink sprays.  The take the color so evenly and stand up to the wetness of the ink without warping or peeling.  I think they really add a fun touch to this project!

CHA Hot Trends ~ Home decor w/ paper & flowers!

After every CHA show we get the same question from our Petaloo friends...what are the HOTTEST trends (in our opinion) that we saw at CHA?

 

So... today I want to show you another favorite ... Home Decor from paper and flowers!

 

  One of the masters at creating home decor from their papers and Petaloo flowers is Graphic 45.  If you have ever been in the G45 booth at a CHA show, it is filled with home decor projects and ideas!!

Stacking Boxes by Graphic 45 features the Petaloo Textured Layers flowers in amber and moss green

        

 

Here is another amazing project from Nichola Battilana a member of the G45 Design Team. It features the new Bohemian Bazaar papers and Petaloo Darjeeling flowers!

How to get started?

FIRST, pick out an item you would like to decorate...there are lots of great boxes, birdhouses, mirrors, frames etc at your local craft store.  Try looking at Joannes, Michaels, Hobby Lobby or Beverlys.

 

NEXT, pick out a paper that appeals to you...

 

LAST, go to the Petaloo website and find coordinating flowers, trims, lace and accessories to match your papers.

 

Important to note...you need to get the right glue...paper glue for adhering paper & fabric glue for adhering laces, ribbons and metal accessories.

 

Remember...these items make great gifts and Christmas is coming!!!

For a very small bird

 We end our inspirational week with Helena Johansson's Petaloo project using Graphic 45's Bohemian Bazaar collection.  It's been super fun using the G45 collection so thanks G45 for your genoristy!

Hi everybody! Helena here today to share some inspiration using Petaloos Darjeeling flowers with Graphic 45's Bohemian Bazaar. Such amazing colors and so fun to create with! I have made a card that almost makes you smell that sweet ocean breeze, and a tiny little birdhouse that will make a perfect gift for someone.

 

Here's a close-up of my little birdhouse. I dressed the chipboard house with the beautiful papers from Graphic 45 Bohemian Bazaar and then decorated with sweet pink and yellow Petaloo flowers - both Printed Darjeelings in the color Fuschia and Darjeeling Mini Mix, color Autumn. I placed the little birdhouse on a piece of Graphic 45 chipboard and finally I tucked some Seashell pins from Petaloo among the flowers.

For the card I used Petaloos Darjeeling Dahlias, color Seaside, and small Plumerias. I have also used beautiful Aqua trim and a little Seashell pin:
