Liberty Village with DIY Flowers & Canvas Corp

Hey there Peeps! Ginny here dropping in to share a very festive and fun holiday décor creation using the fabulous DIY Flowers and Canvas Corp patterned papers.  I love to make projects in red, white, and blue since they can be displayed for all the summer holidays!!!

I'm calling this Liberty Village. A row of tiny houses all decked out in patriotic colors and fun trims.  It'll be a great addition to my seasonal décor. My hubby is born on the 4th of July so we really go all in for this great holiday! And we get cake...so that's a win win : )

These little houses are only about 3 inches square ( before the roof.)  I was able to pack a lot of detail in a small space.

All lined up they are the perfect size for a shelf. From this angle you can see how the tiny chimneys fit perfectly on the roof peak. I had to do math shudder.

For this center house I added a few glittery stars on spingy wires nestled into the kraft packaging in the chimney. To finish the tops of the chimneys I added a small length of white lace wrapped around and stapled in place with a tiny staple. Coordinating lace on the bottom of the house is layered over burlap trim.

This roof peak is all decked out with the DIY Flowers, Red Jeweled Flowers,  glittery branches and ribbon trim.  I sprayed the DIY Flowers with Fireworks Spray to match the chevron stripe in the paper. Tinsel trim on the underside of the roof makes it extra festive!

Surprise!!! The roofs come off.  From this angle you can see I've tucked in another star clipped in with an itty bitty red clothespin.

Simply untie the red cord and the little house opens right up to reveal a vintagy image and 3 picture mats for displaying favorite summer pictures.

I just love how the shades of red, white, and blue are all vintagy and not super bright.

Each little house has a different image....but the same picture mats.

It will be fun to fill up these little houses with our pictures and memories. And we can enjoy them year after year when we decorate for the holiday.

Star Spangled 4th of July Projects

Hello, Friends! It's Kathy here, with some Star Spangled 4th of July home decor projects to share with you.  These 3 projects were all made with Authentique's Honor collection. 

If ever there was a holiday that called for a banner, the 4th of July is it!  This beauty is hanging on the mantle in my living room, and I find I want to sing "America the Beautiful" every time I pass by.  I know it's hard to see all the details in this photo, so I have some close up shots to share with you. 

 

Each pennant measure 4" wide x 6" tall, so the banner spans about 3 feet from end to end.  These gorgeous Red Jeweled Flowers make me think of sparklers! The Navy Crushed Ribbon is topped with a cluster of Red Jeweled Flowers and Mini White Mixed Blossoms. To keep with the red, white and blue color palette, I added a Royal Blue Sugared Mini Blossom to the cluster in the lower corner.

 

 

Ribbon streamers, burlap loops and  Petaloo flowers are paired up  between each pennant  to create a festive feel.  And I love this vintage Liberty image!

 

 

I wanted this sweet image to be right at the heart of the banner.  Just look at those precious faces!  Vintage Velvet Lilacs in Royal Blue look smashing with Red Vintage Velvet Minis and an Ivory Textured Blossom.

 

The color match between these Petaloo Flowers and the Authentique papers couldn't be more perfect!

 

 

I'm so very thankful for the men and women who have chosen to serve in our military.  This touching image reminds me that every single one of them leaves behind loved ones who cherish them.  We do salute you, and thank you for your service!

 

To go along with my mantle display, I altered an old glass milk bottle and dressed it up for the 4th of July.

 

 

The bottle was painted with a layer of gesso.  When that had dried, I painted it with Deco Art Whisper Glass paint.  The final coat was Ranger Picket Fence Distress Crackle paint and I love the way it chipped and peeled!  The bottle was filled with pinwheels from the Dollar Store. I painted some sparklers red and blue, then wrapped the wires around some Burgundy and White Sugared Blossoms.  This really dressed that old glass bottle up for the holiday!

Since I had all these goodies out on my work desk, I used the leftover bits and bobs to create a special card to match the ensemble.

 

 

 

This Blue Vintage Velvet Peony is a show stopper!  I glued it to some sparklers and then tucked a shabby chic bow made with custom dyed seam binding beneath it. The background paper was dry embossed with a star folder, then tapped with Versamark and heat embossed with white embossing powder.  The "Cherish" chip was painted black and heat dried.  White glue was added in a thin line and the letter was dipped in red glitter.  I love the effect, don't you?

 

The inside of the card was fully decorated with more of the Authentique Honor paper.  I used a die to create a little envelope and notecard on the top half of the card.

 

 

And I love this sentiment on the bottom half of the card.

Patriotic Headband

Hi everyone!  Shellye here today with a quick DIY headband just in time for the Fourth of July!

For this project I have used a variety of the DIY Paintables and a couple of different mediums. 

To color the butterfly on the headband, I used alcohol markers and a blender. 

Begin by coloring the entire piece with the lightest color.  Use two coats if you'd like for it to be a little darker.  A great thing about the alcohol markers is that they cover up any of the glued areas nicely.

Next, add the darker color around the mid-section of the butterfly.  Use a blending pen to blend the two colors together. 

For the Burlap Sunflowers, I used both a velvet paint (turquoise) and an acrylic paint (red) along with a sponge brush for application.  I found that dabbing the paint with the brush worked better to keep the integrity of the burlap.  Before drying, I sprinkled each with clear glitter.

I also used the alcohol marker to paint the tips of the plain Baby's Breath Picks. 

A length of stretchy ribbon was cut and the pieces glued on with fabric glue.

Now we're ready to sparkle this 4th of July!
