Hello everyone! It's Irene here and today's is my turn to share with you all my project for this product spotlight with Maja Design and Petaloo! Have you thought about having a vintage summer party for this Summer? Today, I've created an easy centerpiece to decorate your party tables with. I've used Maja Design gorgeous pattern papers with beautiful Petaloo Penny Lane flowers to create a feminine vintage paper umbrella.

I actually saw an instructional origami video on how to create this paper umbrella and thought that I should give it a try and add my own twist to it in decorations. Here are more pictures of this paper umbrella.

This umbrella are able to close and open when needed. I've added tons of flowers and trims to it, to create that vintage feminine look.

I've used several different sizes of Penny Lane flowers to create clusters on this paper umbrella.

Flowers for a Cheery Spring

Jennifer Snyder here today to share my cards for spring.  

I have two cards I'd like to present all gussied in gorgeous Petaloo.

 

Here is the first card features the wonderful Petaloo Penny Lane  - Mixed Blossoms Antique Rose . 

I've tucked in some dyed seam binding ribbon and floral berries for added fullness to my floral cluster. 

 

 The paper collection is from Carta BellaFlora #1 6x6 paper collection. 

 

 

Here is the second card.  This one is fun and super summery.  I stamped the flamingo onto watercolor paper and then gave it a quick blush of color.  My real pop of color comes in the Petaloo florals I chose: 

Petaloo Botanica - Mini Pistacchio 

Petaloo Darjeeling  Teastained  Pink Petite Blooms 

 

Isn't this sweet and cheery up close?  Bright, cheery, happy flowers - and I love the color combination of pink and pistachio. 

 

The rectangle die cut frame also fits the summery look with the bright pink background.

DIY Bright, Cheery Cards for Mothers Day and Any Occasion

 

 DIY Bright, Cheery, Happy Cards

Jennifer Snyder here to share some cards.  After a long and dull, cold winter, I need a big dose of bold, bright, happy color.  Thus I set off to make myself happy.  Happiness is easy to achieve when I use my favorite  Petaloo products.

 

 

I created two cards using the same background stamp, just applying different colors and different coloring techniques to complete the project.  

 

My background stamp is from JustRite Papercraft and is great for experimenting with technique.  The large floral pattern is great for pairing with any Petaloo flower.    The possibilities are limitless. 

Below is a closer look at the Petaloo florals that adorn this card.

 

 

Here's How I made this

 

Step. 1 - I stamped the image onto " Specialty Stamping Paper for Inks"  using Clear Embossing Ink .   This helps provide a clear and crisp image.  I am not looking for a distressed image - I really am desiring a crisp clean image.   For this reason, I also did not choose to use distress embossing ink. 

 

Step. 2 -  I coated the specialty paper with clear  super fine embossing powder (white embossing powder works nicely as well).   Heat and set with a heat embossing tool/heat gun. 

 

Bonus Tip - With products like embossing powders, glitter and beads, I find that clean up is much easier when using a craft tray to help catch all the extra product.  I'm not really great at sweeping and vacuuming so I like to avoid that one task when possible. 

  

Step. 3 -  Pick some Distress inks and start blending.   I was able to blend gorgeous color combinations on the specialty stamping paper using various Distress Inks and blending tools.   

  

Step. 4 -  Moving on to the embellishing phase.   I die cut two decorative ovals and scored them at the center so they could be crisply folded and used as flaps to hide a surprise sentiment. 

 

 

Step. 5 -  Secure the decorative ovals  to the stamped card .  To do this, align the fold against the side of the card.  Once in place, they will act like "flaps" to hide a surprise sentiment when closed.  

 

Here is an image of the front and back of the card once the ovals are attached.  

 

Step. 6 -  Embellish as desired with coordinating and colorful Petaloo flowers.  After you are done embellishing, add a Velcro dot to each side of the flap so the card stays closed.  I purchased the Velcro dots in the notions section of a big box store. 

 

These are the gorgeous flowers I used:

Important Tip - as you add flowers, trims, bows and various embellishments to the flaps, make sure the flaps still open.  Do not make the mistake I made of gluing this and that to the flap without a care, then assume it will open like it should.  I was thankful my glue had not set up and could still move the products around.  phew!  

 

Here are a few more close shots to help understand and see the dimension of the card.  

Here is the sweet surprise you find once the card is opened.  The  "hello" sentiment is a die from JustRite PaperCraft  called "Hello Decorative Oval Frame".

This is my second card - made using the same background cling stamp from JustRite, called Succulent  but with a different technique applied  in coloring the background.

Just as in the first card, I  used Clear Embossing Ink  and Clear Super Fine Embossing Powder  but stamped on Cardstock  for Watercolors .   I did not use the specialty paper for stamping  which was used on the first card.  That specialty paper for stamping is not good to use with watercolor paints.  

 

 

 At that point, I cracked out my watercolors and water brush and had some fun.  I knew Petaloo flowers would be perfect matches for my watercolor choices.  

 

The flowers used on this card were:

Petaloo Darjeeling - Garden Rosette Mini- Purple 

Petaloo Penny Lane - Forget me nots - Robin Egg Blue 

Petaloo Penny Lane - Forget me nots - Purple (Soft Lavender) 

 There is a lot of color, movement and bold pattern happening on this card so I added some die cut circles to help provide a place for the eye to settle - an "anchor' for the eye.   The circles also help draw the eye to the Petaloo flowers.

I've created a Mother's Day inspired layout using tons of gorgeous Creative Embellishments chipboard and beautiful Petaloo flowers. The chipboard flourishes are perfect match with Petaloo blooms.

How fun to team up with Creative Embellishments (CE)  to bring you a week of Mother's Day fabulous projects using Petaloo flowers and Creative Embellishments chipboard.  It doesn't get much better than that as far as I am concerned!

 

I chose to honor a "different" kinda Mom, but still a Mom.  For so many of us, myself included, our furbabies are our children and we are their Moms.  My furbabies know that I am Mom and if my husband tells my dogs that "Mom's home", they go running to the back door.  I adore this photo of dog Mom,  Maria Cole and her sweet dog Archie.  The look that is passing between them is so special.  It really illustrates the bond between dogs and their human parents.

 

I love to layer chipboard vines and flourishes underneath my Petaloo blooms, that is such a great look.  I colored my chippies with some gold mist and then lightly dry brushed white paint onto the chippies and the flowers.  Petaloo's Darjeeling Blooms are perfect for painting and misting as they are a nice heavy weight paper flower.

I used Petaloo Darjeeling blooms on my layout, they are some of my favorites.  I've used dahlias, rosetes and little minis along with a couple butterflies, all from the Darjeeling collection. 

 

In addition to chipboard, Creative Embellishments sells masks, wood veneers and stamps. I used a CE pawprint mask on the background of this layout, its just the touch I wanted.

Cat Day at PET-aloo

It's Cat Day at PET-aloo 

Petaloo  is celebrating pet days. It's part of their nature after all...being a company named for pets... PET-aloo.  

 

   Jennifer Snyder here to share in the pet fun.  Yesterday I posted my dog cards.  Today the cats get their day in the spotlight.  I had to separate the two because if I didn't, I'd have tails and fur a'flyin.  Let's just say my cats aren't the best at sharing space with dogs. 

 

You can find the dog post right here, complete with a quick step-by-step for one of  the dog cards. 

 

This is a pop-up card I created for my husband.  I added gorgeous Petaloo flowers to the front of the card but left the inside unadorned because I wanted it to close flatly to surprise him.  This is the first pop-up card I have made so he was most certainly surprised.  

 

 

The front of this card features the
Petaloo Botanica Collection - Chantilly Mixed Blooms - Mauve.  Aren't they just spectacular?
I used a super old collection for this card - My Minds Eye - Lost & Found Collection.  

 

And look at all these darlin's staring at you. 

 

 

 

Here is my next card.  

This card features a new flower -Fairy Blossom Branch (code 5016-101).  They are sweet delicate velvet flowers with a little sparkle to them.  Look for them to ship  soon!

I also used the  Petaloo Textured Elements -  Briar Rose Canvas in Red  though I chose a flower with a bit more pink from the package. 

 

 

This is my next card.  Sweet and simple.  I let the Petaloo flowers and cat silhouettes stand out on this card.  The cat silhouettes were made using the Tim Holtz -Crazy Cats and Dogs dies and accompanying stamps. 

I punched some cats out and really loved the negative space creating a delightful silhouette. 

The soft Petaloo flowers on this card include  the newly released -Fairy Blossom Branch  (code 5016-101), the green flowers from the package of  Petaloo Chantilly Hydrangea in Red  and some delicate Petaloo lace trim, Petaloo Crochet Lace Fancy Trim -White .

 I used the Petaloo Crochet Lace Fancy Trim -White as a border strip.  

This is the last card and a simple but graphically fun card.  It's a shaker card with  washi tape used as a background. This card also has the Petaloo Crochet Lace Fancy Trim  used as a border.  

I decided to use some of Petaloo's Jeweled Florettes in pastel colors - they are flat flowers that resemble the flowers on the patterned paper.  

I felt the shaker card was bulky enough to send through the mail - the flat flowers were a great alternative and still added a bedazzled element to the card.

Valentine's Card with Petaloo

Hello Petaloo fans! It's Irene here and for today's post, I'm sharing a Valentine's Day card which I've created using tons of beautiful flowers by Petaloo.

To create this card, I've used pattern papers by Graphic 45. Love the vintage style of this collection. Below are some details on this card.

Refreshing and Updating Home Decor Plus Some DIY Tips

Refreshing and updating that old knick-knack (plus some DIY tips)

Happy New Year!

Jennifer Snyder here today bringing life back into an old item.  

I had a cute wooden purse knick-knack that I bought at a thrift store.  It was cute 10 years ago in a little girl's room but definitely needs some updated love and attention... and some Petaloo flowers to bring it back to life.  I say, "Let's give tired purse a second chance at love".  If you scroll down through this post, you'll find some helpful DIY tips as well to help make your projects durable.

 

Now here's my big secret in refreshing and repurposing items.  If at all possible, I try to salvage what I can and do as little painting as possible.  My expertise is in decorating - not painting.  I know painting can take a lot of time, effort and finesse.  I do not have an abundance of any of those.   So my philosophy is to work with what I have when possible - meaning no painting.  

 

The Graphic 45 "Place in Time" collection had perfect papers and colors for this project and worked well with the purple and green in the purse.  A project doesn't get much easier for me if I can leave the original paint alone.  

 

 

 

Making your home decor durable  

Another important aspect of home decor items is durability.  When making home decor pieces, I always think about pieces being handled, touched, dusted, moved.  Unfinished and untreated paper can become stained, get fragile, warp and the edges can rip.  You can add durability to your home decor paper pieces by coating it with a clear matte finish.   

 

I chose Mod Podge because that's what I had available, but you can make your own inexpensive finish by mixing white school glue and a bit of water and painting onto the project.  You can also use a clear, matte gel medium.  

The key to using these mediums as sealants and protective coatings is to make sure your edges are completely coated and adhered. 

 

I do not use glue on the paper.  I used the Mod Podge as glue.  To do this, I make sure to add the Mod Podge to both the wood and the backside of the paper.  Once the paper is down, it's important to  smooth out all air bubbles with your fingers, brayer or such like that.  Once satisfied, add a final layer of Mod Podge over the paper paying special attention to the edges making sure they are all secure.  

Before adding my gorgeous Petaloo embellishments, I wanted to add lace to the project but I realized the paper is busy.  In order to make my lace pop and give it some definition, I added a layer of paper behind it.  This prevents the delicate lace from getting lost in the busy patterns and embellishments.

Halloween Blues Greeting Card

Hey there Paper Peeps! Ginny here and  I'm excited to share a fun halloweeny project today with vintage images, layered patterned papers, and gorgeous Petaloo flowers.  I used non-traditional colors for the holiday inspired by the background color from the image.  Because why be normal?
That little boy is sweet and charming I could not resist creating a project with him. The tag in the background was inked and stamped and embossed with more traditional Halloween colors. Not too much of it is peeking out so as not to distract from the focal image.

The texture on these burlap flowers is amazing! I filled in a small arrangement here with some black burlap string to help fill in the space.

Another little arrangement for the top corner here with coordinating silk ribbon.

From this angle you can see them embossing a bit better. I used a flat black for the spider web and a clear gloss on the die cut frame.  I utilized a white doily to break of the focal images from the background which were all in a similar color tone and was looking a bit washed out.

A few embellies like the metal clip and buttons really wraps this card up and balances the large flowers.
