Layout with DIY Flowers

Hello Petaloo fans! Did you all know that Petaloo has a new collection of DIY flowers? This collection is perfect for those of you who love to color, paint, or ink your own flowers. It is also great for any mixed media projects.

Today, I would like to show you all a layout which I've used tons of DIY flowers on. Would you like to know how I've colored my flowers? Here are some simple steps.

First of all, I've misted the flowers with the base color I want. For this project, I've used Marion Smith Designs colorlab kit to color my flowers.

While the flowers are still wet, to create some depths, I've used a brush and some pigment powder from the colorlab kit to paint it.

Later, I've added some glitter paste to it for some sparkle.

Hello everyone, Stacy here with you today on the Petaloo blog.  We have had an amazing week of Dads and Grads projects.  Today i'm sharing a fun little altered gift bag idea which would be perfect for either day.  I'm going to use mine for a graduation gift.  

I love the Timekeeper collection from Marion Smith which is what I used on this project.  Graduation day is such a huge moment in time and this collection also symbolizes how time has flown by watching my daughter and her friends grow up since grade school.

This is the finished altered gift bag.

 

In the close up photo below you can see I added a couple metal gear embellishments to accent the main clock.  I used Petaloo Yellow Dahlias and also intermixed a couple of Ivory Textured Mini Blossoms. I used a 1" punch to punch out a few of the clocks from one of the pattern papers from this collection and popped them up in a couple different spots on the bag.  I also spotted a few butterflies on the paper and of course had to add those as well.  Finally I had some shear yellow ribbon to tie a little bow on the handle of the bag.

Hello everyone! Thrilled to be playing along with Marion Smith and Petaloo for our Dads and Grads Blog hop! Love love Marion Smith's "TimeKeeper" Oh so much vintage Yumminess! Petaloo blooms was the icing on the perfect cake!

My Project has a little story behind it.. I pondered for a long while on what exactly I wanted to do for this hop. Sometimes I get nervous about what exactly I want to do.. Then other times I am just blank. I wanted to do something in the line of Father's Day, but what exactly, was eluding me. So my hubs came in one day after a storm had swept through. He had been outside looking at our garden. He said to me "we had a crash landing in our garden". I looked at him with the biggest HUH?! look. He laughed and pulled out this little toy glider that was picked up from who knows where from the storm. Almost instantly I knew what I wanted to do for this hop! Yup I took the plane and ran with it! I actually used it to make a pattern and all! Here is what I came up with.. 

I had to invent the tail wings, but all in all was the exact pattern from the little glider. I traced it out on some thin cardboard. Then covered it with the Cogs and Gear Sheet form the Marion Smith's "Timekeeper" collection. I used a Petaloo Darjeeling Mini Mix in Cream as a makeshift propeller. I thought it looked like the engine was on and it was ready for takeoff! For the cockpit I used a little section from the Tinker sheet of the Timekeeper papers. I also added a little bit of Petaloo lace in cream for details here and there. The plane needed a banner to fly also! Just to tell Dad just how loved he is! Here are some pics of the banner area..

  On this area I used more of the Darjeelings Mini Mix and a the Gorgeous Botanica's in Teal. To kinda give a cloud like look (and to slip in some more flowers too ;) ). I used some more of the Tinker sheet from the Timekeeper collection to make my banner and stamped some sayings.  I did used little buttons from my stash as wheels too. This was a super fun project to do! It would make a great project for the little ones to get involved with too for Dad! Here are a couple of pics of the banner and plane as a whole..

Hi everyone!  Shellye McDaniel here today with a different take on the "explosion box" type of card using beautiful papers from Marion Smith's "Timekeeper" Collection, an assortment of Petaloo flowers and a wooden cigar box.

The cigar box measures approximately 6" X 3.5" and has a hinged lid; goes perfectly with the steampunked style papers.  To start, I cut three 1" strips and adhered them inside of the box:

The ends of the strips were folded and glued in place.  Ric Rac trim was added to the top of each strip.

Next, various sections of the "Exploratorium" (featuring balloons) were hand-cut from the background paper.  The images were attached to a paper straw and then glued to the strips inside of the box.

Clusters of Darjeeling Teastained Red and Textured Amber Layers were attached around each of the three balloons.  I used leaves from the Darjeeling Petites to embellish each cluster.

I cut a small piece of paper from the collection and printed out various sentiments to the graduate onto it.  Next, I cut each of the sentiments into small strips and snipped them at the ends to create a banner look.

I wanted to keep as much of the cigar box's artwork showing, so I grouped a small cluster of flowers to the right of the box along with some knotted ribbon and button.

The altered box will be a nice display piece for the graduate and acts as a card too!

I'm so excited to be sharing my

I began with a Canvas/Burlap Postcard.
I then took out a piece from Marion Smith Designs
Junque Gypsy 6 x 6 Paper Pack
I crumpled it
tore it
sewed it
stenciled on it
smeared paint on it....
AND I LIKED IT!

Then I pulled out some of the latest releases 
Petaloo Blooms...
and a few oldies but goodies!!

I am TOTALLY in love with the
Calla Lilies and Berries
along with the
Velvet Lilacs
(at least they don't make me sneeze!)

 

To give all the different textured blooms
a bit of cohesiveness,
I accented them all with a bit of
Perfect Paints ~ Bright Gold Paint.

I finished of my "postcard"
with part of a quote from 
Marion Smith Designs 
Junque Gypsy 6x6 paper pack.

Now....to find a graduate to give this too!!!
I think I know of at least one!

Let's start off the hop with NICHOLA BATTILANA ...

 

A few months back I came across a post about "The Festival of Broken Needles", or Hari-Kuyo, a Japanese custom honoring broken sewing needles. As someone who sees the beauty and worth of ordinary objects, I was immediately captivated. Broken, bent and worn sewing needles are saved, then honored on a special day by placing them in cakes of tofu and offering them thanks before they are laid to rest. It's a bit more complex than that, but that's it in a nutshell.

I wanted to honor my own bent needles and so I've created a little mossy box for them to 'retire' in. 

I've covered the box with paper from the 6x6" Junque Gypsy pad from Marion Smith and fussy cut some butterflies for embellishment. The corners are dotted with Petaloo Chantilly-VelvHydrangeas. I've also included an Embellishment Brad to finish things off.
