Spring shutter bug fever ~ Tammy

 Hello all of you wonderful Petaloo fans!! Tammy here today.. So are ya ready for Spring yet?! Well I am! I am sooo ready for the greens to reappear and the flowers to start blooming. Uggg all the gloom of winter and the cold needs to go away! LOL  The Spring weather always brings out the shutterbug in me. I wanted my project to kinda reflect that. :) I played with some GORGEOUS papers from G45 the "Mon Amour" collection and boy oh boy some YUMMY Petaloo flowers!! It was a blast! These 2 dance so well together!

 So what's a girl to do with so much Yumminess?! Hummm.. I dived in head first on a project I have wanted to do for a very long time! The vintage papers from G45 just begged me to do a vintage project.. Spring knocking on our doors, and the strong desire for some sunny warmth, and my camera well.. I decided to do a vintage camera.  I have wanted to do one of these since I seen one that Tara's place had done few years back. Time had never been on my side to give it a go. I had that time now, so off to work I went to make my version of a vintage camera.. I made the entire piece. No pre made box.. Just a bit of imagination, and some inspo from old cameras pics. My inspo was from a Vintage Ellison Kodak camera. It was meant to be compact a pocket style. It still had the bellows like even older cameras. Fit my idea to the T.. Here is my project..

 I sooo loved the elegant black and white papers from the G45 "Mon Amour" collection! I wanted to give my camera a elegant look to it. These worked well too! Also I could use any color of flowers too! This little dandy is loaded with Petaloo delights! The textures and soft colors well I was in heaven! The papers I used was the Precious One and the True love sheets. I was thrilled to see that this paper pack had 3 sheets of each! Yay!! Plenty to work with for this project! It even had sweet little butterflies so I could adorn my flowers and camera with them! How about another view?..

 Lots of surface area to plant my little flower garden of sorts! I used 6 different bloom styles. I love to arrange different sizes in my clusters. I used Textured Elements Burlap Blossoms 4pk Ivory and Textured Elements Burlap Blossoms 10pk. These gave me the vintage white/ivory from my paper. For my pop of color I used some Botanica Blooms 4pk in coral, Mixed Blossoms 8pk in antique peach and Mini Daisy Petites also in Antique Peach. Just a bit of black to mix in my flower cluster too I used the Black Forget me Nots. Oh i had lots left over too! I am glad, because I will also make a mini using this collection to go inside the Camera. Yup I even have a place for the mini Album to go.. Let me show you!

 I tried to get done, to get the mini done as well.. But sometimes things just don't work out like ya planned. A nasty cold slowed me down and a little bit of redos too. The bellows a kinda tricky at first.. It took a couple of tries to get them down, but now I think I could do them in my sleep! LOL Here are some close ups..

 Lots of Creative Embellishment chippies and Flying Unicorn adornments to bring the camera to life. From the decorative pieces to the lens. It was a blast to make! I hope you enjoyed, and have a chance to put a project together you have been putting off too! Happy that I waited. Because these papers and Petaloo blooms was perfect for this camera!

A Christmas Star ~ Tammy

Hello everyone! Today I have a project to share with you a Star Christmas tree topper and a tute using Yummy Petaloo flowers!!

 We was asked to do a project around our Christmas traditions. For me, as I thought of that request the first thing that popped in my mind was my Nana's house and how we gather every year in a large living room at her house. This has always been where my most fondest memories growing up has been. Waiting on the loved ones to come in, and no matter how late it was we didn't start without them. We would always start out the evening with the reading of the birth of baby Jesus from a old bible that my Nana has had for many many years. After that then we would start with the little ones and pass out gifts. My Nana's little tree would have lots of gifts stacked under it and around it. The room would be packed with us all (very large family!) and gifts. Under that little Christmas tree would also hold a coconut. I am not sure why, but it was always there. My Uncle would always break it up after the gifts was cleared and we would share some of that fresh treat. Nana's tree has many of the same ornaments, and tree topper as it did when I was growing up. The tree topper was a star. The star to me and to many is a symbol of the birth of baby Jesus.  The one that lead the wise men to where he would be found in Bethlehem. I don't get to have Christmas with my Nana this year and that makes me sad. But she will have the best Christmas of all so that makes me feel a little better. In honor of her, I created a Christmas star tree topper, and included a tute as well. I hope you all enjoy!! :)

 

I happen to have on my hands a Darice Grapevine star on my hands from a Flying Unicorn KOM. It was a OTP that I didn't get to complete. 

This is How I made it.. Complete with little lites too! :)

 

First I gessoed the whole star front and back, to give it a snowy feel. I didn't deeply saturate it with the gesso, as I wanted some of the wood rustic look to shine through. Then I started my layering process. I started out with a Pack of Petaloo Botanica Berry clusters and the leaves from the Botanica Blooms in Sugared Mocha and the New Dogwood Vintage Velvets (love these!!). I glued the stems to the wood beneath. This is gonna be covered up. Just make sure you have them attached well.  Here is a photo of this layer..

Now I am ready for my next layers of blooms.. I used the white Botanica Poinsettias and the Sugared Botanica Blooms. Then added in a twine bow..

 

 

I added in another White Poinsettia and another Botanica sugared in Mocha. I am dancing them around to create my custer.. I also add in a another Dogwood bloom too. 

The last kiss on top is a larger size of the White Poinsettia on top. Covers up the last hole and completes the cluster..

After my glue is dry I turn it over and add in my lites. I got them from the Dollar Store. They have a little battery pack (no electric or risk of fire ;) ). Here is pics of how I attached them to the piece..

After this was glued down and the battery pack as well. I then started covering my cluster with mediums. First Gesso..

 

I wanted my piece to flow with the star beneath, adding in the gesso would tie that together.. Now I add in a bit of shimmer with 13 Arts white and silver paint..

 

You could stop here.. But I am a huge fan of blue.. So I added in a little misting to my White Poinsettias with a little spitz of 13 Arts Turquoise mist. 

Yup, I think I am happy now with the way it turned out. ;) Here is a couple more photos of the completed project..

"Kids Crafts" for Summer 

with Petaloo ...

HI everyone, Denise Hahn here and today I have a super fun craft for girls. This project can be modified for little ones- the only requirement is that they can tie a knot! For teens and tweens, they can do all the steps from start to finish. All you need is a pair of inexpensive flip flops and some Petaloo Trims and Floradoodles! Here we go!:

Gather your supplies- You will need two packages of Petaloo Fancy trims, Petaloo Floradoodles, (optional-not pictured Petaloo Brads) Scissors, hot glue gun, and a pair of flip flops. For your little ones- you can pre cut the trims and do the hot glue for them

First unwind all the trims off the cards. Fold in half and cut at the center.

Fold in half again, and cut at center. Do it once more and you should have 8 pieces about 5-6 inches long- perfection NOT required! It looks best when you have various sizes

When finished you will have 4 piles of each trim with 8 peices

Next I mixed my piles so i had 4 of each color and style- one set ofr each flip flop! This is not mandatory, they can mix up the colors however they want, just divide equally

Okay one last divide! I kept it symmentrical and did 2 of each color for each side, but again as long as you divied evenly, they can make them any way they want!

Starting at the center toe just tie each trim onto the straps, alternating colors. Do  double knot and tie it tight. I did not worry about fraying- the fraying looks good! (if you are absessive about that sort of thing you can buy some Fray Check at your local fabric store and dab some on all the trim edges- but thats a lot of work!) Tie them close together, leaving little to no gap between trims

Here is what it looks like after the trims are all attached, now the super fun part! Remember if you have little ones- let them pick their flowers out and have an adult glue them

I chose three layered flowers for my focal piece

A little trick when adding a brad- push the brad through the first two layers only

Then glue those on top of the last flower- this encases the brad so it doesn't scratch your foot. Then use some generous hot glue to attach to the trims

I added some butterflies too! These are so fun and easy- the possibilities are limitless- and it can be a little time cunsuming, and who doesn't want to keep their kiddos busy right?

There is so much to be thankful for these days. It takes moments like these to remind ourselves just that. What better way to cherish the memoires with this mini tag book designed by, Alice Carman.

Alice used Floral Ephemera in Cranberry from the NEW Botanica collection.

The collection also includes leaves to help adorn the flowers. These colors are perfect for any fall craft creation.

It doesn't take much to make this tag album. Just a few photos and Petaloo's flowers to add that special touch.

Alice also used Petaloo's Fancy Trims. She added trim at the bottom of the tag to soften the edges. What a great idea!

Oodles of Doodles

First, take a peek at Lisa Valentine's wonderful projects for Spring with our new Petaloo Floradoodles!

 

I picked up this little lavender wreath for a few dollars at Micheal's and new exactly what I wanted to do with it.

Have you seen Petaloo's new chipboard pieces???  Have ya??  You have now!  I painted the butterflies with some Shimmerz and then embossed them with Ranger's Bridal Embossing Powder.  I embellished them with pearls and some of Petaloo's Feathers!!  Yum......

The flowers are Flora Doodles that I combined to create little colorful magnolias.  Suh-weet!

THEN, I found myself inspired by a vintage stock photo I found.  I looked at the picture....looked at the bright and springy Flora Doodles....looked back at the picture and heard the theme to Hawaii Five 0 in my head (and visions of a shirtless Alex O'loughlin). *walkin' it off*  I knew that I wanted to create a 1950's style card with art deco colors and a tropical feel.

OK, this really isn't my normal style, but every once in a while you just have to let loose and do something different.

Flora Doodles Tye-Dyed Gypsies are too cute and absolutely perfect for the look I was going for.  I topped them off with a Bird Dazzler.

That cute little frame is part of Petaloo's new chipboard collection.
