We are so pleased with this flower for spring.  It looks so similar to how it grows in the garden ...CRSIP.  This poly/cotton material holds the shape perfectly.  (YES, it can be altered with any paint, ink, or spray.)

Aren't the colors great?!  Lots of variety for your projects.  Plus, with it's clean and unfussy look ... it will look great with any contemporary or modern paper or project.

"Day of the Dead" Choker by Denise

 

Every year during the Fall ... we get requests to post "Day of the Dead" projects ... here is a great "Dia de los Muertos" choker from Denise Hahn with Snapguide directions to go with it!! 

 

The Day of the Dead is filled with the most livley colors that celebrate and remind us of our loved ones who have passed. Today I have created a felt choker inspired by the holidays colors and themes. It was supr easy- just a piece of felt 12 inches by 2 inches. I took some Petaloo Trims to make make ties, and then continued using the Petaloo Fancy and Crocheted trims to embellish. I added in some scrap velvet, tulles and fabrics. Then used my glue gun to add my Petaloo flowers. At the end I decided to add in some of Petaloos Brads and I think it just made the design pop. I used my sewing machine to add on the trims but you could easily use a glue gun for the entire project. Petaloo's DIY ~ Burlap Medium Sunflower ~ Ivory
is a PERFECT for such an occasion.

 

I began by spritzing
the DIY Sunflower with water.
Then I placed a puddle of 
Perfect Paints on my Craft Mat
and diluted it with a bit of water.
I applied the color with a small round brush.

I created another shade of Gold by mixing
in a bit of Aged Copper to allow
for shading.

When dry, I used my hot glue gun
to adhere a pin back 
and a few loopy bows.

I pined the brooch to the
card I made using
Authentique's ~ Faith 
Card Making Stack.

Pretty for summer

Hi! I hope everyone is having a great summer! Something fun to do with the kids, is making your own jewelry and hair decorations. It's so easy and you can make just about anything using the stuff you already have at home (hairclips, hairbands and so on) and of course Petaloos amazing flowers and embellishments!

Today I'm showing how simple it is to decorate a hairband and making a flower brooch. My little daughter is the model of the day :). (Btw, she is not angry as you might think looking at these photos, she just takes her assignment very seriously!)

For the headband I used Petaloo's Floradoodles Fabric'n'glitter flowers, Brites, and just layered different sizes and colors, putting a brad in the middle. I then glued them onto the headband using hot glue.

For the brooch, I used green Floradoodle flowers, and a green pearl brad in the middle. I then glued the flowers to a pin, using hot glue, and then the brooch is ready! So easy, and so pretty!

Super Easy Botanica Flower Brooch

 

For all the elaborate crafts I try to dream up for my blog posts, sometimes it's the simplest ideas that are my favorites! Now I won't say that this didn't start out as an elaborate project! I was going to make a tote bag and embellish it with Botanica Flowers, and I did make said Tote bag but when it came to attaching the flowers, I just couldn't do it. These were my only Pink Botanicas and I wasn't about to glue them down for all eternity! From that came the simple idea I am going to share with you- Make a Petaloo Brooch. Now I could attach it to my tote, or a jacket, or a hat, or anything my heart desires. It was so easy to make too and here are the directions:

Trace out a 2 inch circle onto a double layer square of felt. Sew on the trace line (if you don't sew you can just cut the circles first and glue together with Fabritac). After you sewed together cut off the excess. Line up a safety pin at the center and zig zag stitch the pin on. Again if you don't have machine you can hand stitch, or purchase a clasp at the craft store you can glue on.

Next put two dollops of hot glue in the center and attach two of the Petaloo Botanica leaves. Curl the wire ends to get extra hold and stability. Don't worry about placement as the wires adjust after cooled.

Attach three Botanica Flowers to the circle backing. You can use more if you like- I like to keep them at odd numbers though

Now simply pin on to whatever your heart desires! here are a few of my ideas:

Making Jewelry with Petaloo Flowers

  Today we have a fantastic tutorial by DTM, Denise Hahn using Graphic 45's NEW Bohemian Bazaar.  You are going to love what she has created and the awesome stepped out tutorial. Join us all week!

When I started this project it wasn't actually a  jewelry project at all. It was an experiment. Could I clear emboss flowers? And the answer is yes! After I worked out my technique, I felt the flowers ended up looking like the flowers on a vintage metal cloisonne brooch. I had this cuff blank sitting around and decided to create a cuff using Graphic 45's new collection Bohemian Baazar with Petaloos Printed Darjeelings in Painted Fuschia. I inlcuded a step by step tutorial after the pics. 

And here is how I made it!

I started by embossing my flowers. Here I used Clersnaps Glue Gloss. It has a tip like a foam lipgloss applicator and helps you get into the petals and tight spots. I then used Clearsnaps Clear Emossing Powder. Use a bamboo skewer to hold the flower while you emboss it. I made two to three layers of powder to get the end result.

First take your jewelry cuff blank (I got this one at Michaels) and measure the length and width. Cut out a strip of Graphic 45 Bohemian Baazar the same siz-adding on a 1/4 extra "seam allowance".

I took my 9.5 x 2 inch strip and ran it through my Xyron Create-A-Sticker 2.5 inch. Do you have one of these? It is my go to adhesive! If you don't have one-coat your cuff blank with high tack glue instead

Attach your strip to the cuff- place cuff in center and bring the ends up. If you had to use glue, you will need to allow your glue to dry before you go to the next step. 

Take your small detail cutting scissors and trim around the edges. I use teflon coated ones to keep them from sticking to any adhesive

Now I take a clear lacquer and coat the paper side of the piece to protect it- I used Sakura but you could use modge podge or gel medium

Now attach your flowers- since its paper to paper you can use hot glue or tacky glue

After your flowers set up or dry- take a needle and punch through a few of the holes that are exposed still after gluing them on. 

Take a 15 inch piece of wire. This is 18g but anything that will fit in the cuff holes will work. Make a round "knot" and run down through the top where it won't show.

Come back up through one of the visible holes and run a bed or charm. Run back through the same hole and come up through another. Continue until you have as many beads as will show

After your done, wrap the wire around itself and trim-leaving just enough to send the very end back into one of the holes and then bend down-so that it does not poke you on the inside. Try on the cuff-if the metal wires bother you aesthetically or physically you can cut a piece of coordinating felt and glue with tacky glue on the inside

For the final step- I attached a focal piece. This is a vintage bracelet link form my stash. When I attach metal I use a stronger adhesive such as E6000- hot glue would not work here, it will just pop off. 

To really finish this cuff off I added a gift tag to it using Bohemian Baazar Tags and Pockets, and Chipboard Tags. The cord is May arts.

SNEEK PEEK..."Printed" Darjeeling Accessories

 

Hello and Happy SPRING from Petaloo!

Today we have another  

Spring 2013 "Sneek Peek". 

This one is from our Darjeeling "PRINTED PAPER" Collection!

 As you can see we have lots of new goodies to match the Printed Darjeeling flowers!  There are luscious new TRIMS, eye catching new metal accesories, and sweet printed butterflies to round it all out!

 

These flowers are just perfect for card making, scrapbooking layouts and even jewelry!  Did anyone spot the floral necklace? 

 

It was so easy to make...two packs of flowers, a little felt (for the backing) and a few findings from Michaels!  Gotta love the hot glue gun...it assembled in an hour or less! 

 

Plus, the flowers come in 7 Spring  colors...peach, green, aqua blue, white, fuschia, soft pink and soft grey.  That means a flower necklace (and earrings) for every outfit this spring!! :)
