Decorative Gift Boxes Made Perfect with Petaloo

I received my first box of "See's Chocolates"  last Christmas from Petaloo, all the way from California.    Let me tell ya....wowzers.  What quality - what deliciousness - and what a chocolaty secret to keep from my family.    My husband will snatch up candy from the counter quicker than one can blink.  I can't have that.  Then I have my kids to contend with and fight off.  Nope can't have that either.

Sorry - no way could I possibly divulge this gift to my family.  So I did the only reasonable thing a responsible mom and loving wife could do - I hid the box and ate them all.  Yes - EVERY heavenly melty wonderful piece of chocolate.

 The box was all that remained from that sensational chocolate memory saved from last Christmas.
 I tucked the empty box in my stash as if it had always been just an empty box.
BUT  now I can enjoy it again and gussy it up!!! (ahhhhh stills smells like chocolate too.)

  

 

To do this, I gathered up a few of my favorite products and set to work.   Flowers from Petaloo by Floracraft.  Dies from Spellbinders.  Papers from Maja Design in Sweden
 the gorgeous collection called Life in the Country.

 

Next of course - come flowers as decorative toppers.
It's gussied up with some exquisite flowers from  Petaloo by Floracraft:

 I added paper to the inside of the box as well.  Helps cover up the fact that I actually ate a whole box of chocolates.  Chocolates?  What chocolates.  Not me!  hahahaa

Beautiful Graduation Cards

It's graduation/commencement time.  Seems most everyone is off to a graduation ceremony, party or at least knows a recent graduate.  Today, graduations are celebrated for so many reasons;  the little wee ones moving from Pre-K to First Grade; dogs finishing up a training program and moving up a level; even moving positions in a company to achieve the next job level.  

Graduation is serious business.

 

 Jennifer Snyder here today to share in the celebrations with a couple of cards.   I also have a few grads in my family so this was a great project. 

 

 

My first card uses one of Petaloo/Floracraft's newest releases. 

 This card features the Petaloo/Floracraft  Botanica Collection -Gypsy Rose Bunch in Cream. 

 

 Actually it has one big flower in the center of the cluster and two smaller flowers nestled on each side. 

I used a Spellbinders die and some old My Minds Eye paper.  

 

 

 

Here is the second card I crafted.  This card features a new flower from the Botanica collection paired with an older Botanica in the same color.  

 

There are the flowers I chose:

The flowers add such grace to the beautiful delicate die from Spellbinders. 

 

Here  are a few close ups at different angles.  The Red Elphemera flowers have floral berries in the packet so I used those as additional points of interest.

That brings me to my final farewell to the Petaloo Design Team.  The Team is wrapping up and ending.  

I am  overjoyed to have been part of the Petaloo family, to showcase such premium products, and work with the Team led by Petaloo's  prior owner, Cheryl Cohen.  Cheryl, thank you for your support.  You are indeed a  rare and genuine rose.

Flowers for a Cheery Spring

Jennifer Snyder here today to share my cards for spring.  

I have two cards I'd like to present all gussied in gorgeous Petaloo.

 

Here is the first card features the wonderful Petaloo Penny Lane  - Mixed Blossoms Antique Rose . 

I've tucked in some dyed seam binding ribbon and floral berries for added fullness to my floral cluster. 

 

 The paper collection is from Carta BellaFlora #1 6x6 paper collection. 

 

 

Here is the second card.  This one is fun and super summery.  I stamped the flamingo onto watercolor paper and then gave it a quick blush of color.  My real pop of color comes in the Petaloo florals I chose: 

Petaloo Botanica - Mini Pistacchio 

Petaloo Darjeeling  Teastained  Pink Petite Blooms 

 

Isn't this sweet and cheery up close?  Bright, cheery, happy flowers - and I love the color combination of pink and pistachio. 

 

The rectangle die cut frame also fits the summery look with the bright pink background.

DIY Bright, Cheery Cards for Mothers Day and Any Occasion

 

 DIY Bright, Cheery, Happy Cards

Jennifer Snyder here to share some cards.  After a long and dull, cold winter, I need a big dose of bold, bright, happy color.  Thus I set off to make myself happy.  Happiness is easy to achieve when I use my favorite  Petaloo products.

 

 

I created two cards using the same background stamp, just applying different colors and different coloring techniques to complete the project.  

 

My background stamp is from JustRite Papercraft and is great for experimenting with technique.  The large floral pattern is great for pairing with any Petaloo flower.    The possibilities are limitless. 

Below is a closer look at the Petaloo florals that adorn this card.

 

 

Here's How I made this

 

Step. 1 - I stamped the image onto " Specialty Stamping Paper for Inks"  using Clear Embossing Ink .   This helps provide a clear and crisp image.  I am not looking for a distressed image - I really am desiring a crisp clean image.   For this reason, I also did not choose to use distress embossing ink. 

 

Step. 2 -  I coated the specialty paper with clear  super fine embossing powder (white embossing powder works nicely as well).   Heat and set with a heat embossing tool/heat gun. 

 

Bonus Tip - With products like embossing powders, glitter and beads, I find that clean up is much easier when using a craft tray to help catch all the extra product.  I'm not really great at sweeping and vacuuming so I like to avoid that one task when possible. 

  

Step. 3 -  Pick some Distress inks and start blending.   I was able to blend gorgeous color combinations on the specialty stamping paper using various Distress Inks and blending tools.   

  

Step. 4 -  Moving on to the embellishing phase.   I die cut two decorative ovals and scored them at the center so they could be crisply folded and used as flaps to hide a surprise sentiment. 

 

 

Step. 5 -  Secure the decorative ovals  to the stamped card .  To do this, align the fold against the side of the card.  Once in place, they will act like "flaps" to hide a surprise sentiment when closed.  

 

Here is an image of the front and back of the card once the ovals are attached.  

 

Step. 6 -  Embellish as desired with coordinating and colorful Petaloo flowers.  After you are done embellishing, add a Velcro dot to each side of the flap so the card stays closed.  I purchased the Velcro dots in the notions section of a big box store. 

 

These are the gorgeous flowers I used:

Important Tip - as you add flowers, trims, bows and various embellishments to the flaps, make sure the flaps still open.  Do not make the mistake I made of gluing this and that to the flap without a care, then assume it will open like it should.  I was thankful my glue had not set up and could still move the products around.  phew!  

 

Here are a few more close shots to help understand and see the dimension of the card.  

Here is the sweet surprise you find once the card is opened.  The  "hello" sentiment is a die from JustRite PaperCraft  called "Hello Decorative Oval Frame".

This is my second card - made using the same background cling stamp from JustRite, called Succulent  but with a different technique applied  in coloring the background.

Just as in the first card, I  used Clear Embossing Ink  and Clear Super Fine Embossing Powder  but stamped on Cardstock  for Watercolors .   I did not use the specialty paper for stamping  which was used on the first card.  That specialty paper for stamping is not good to use with watercolor paints.  

 

 

 At that point, I cracked out my watercolors and water brush and had some fun.  I knew Petaloo flowers would be perfect matches for my watercolor choices.  

 

The flowers used on this card were:

Petaloo Darjeeling - Garden Rosette Mini- Purple 

Petaloo Penny Lane - Forget me nots - Robin Egg Blue 

Petaloo Penny Lane - Forget me nots - Purple (Soft Lavender) 

 There is a lot of color, movement and bold pattern happening on this card so I added some die cut circles to help provide a place for the eye to settle - an "anchor' for the eye.   The circles also help draw the eye to the Petaloo flowers.

Happy Easter from Petaloo 

On behalf of Petaloo, I'd like to wish everyone a Happy Easter  filled with peace, joy, happiness (and possibly some chocolate bunnies or jelly beans too).    

 

Jennifer Snyder here today to share my Easter cards.  Easter season is a time for bright spring colors  - what I call "jelly bean" colors.  My cards feature these bright colors with perfectly coordinated Petaloo flowers.

This is my first card.  It's soft and sweet and adorned with gorgeous Petaloo.

I have a combination of Petaloo's popular Mixed Textured Blossoms in Teal  and some new blooms from the Spring collection: Petaloo's Botanica Collection -  Hydrangeas in White (shipping soon) .  

 

 

  

 

This next card is absolutely "jelly bean " colored.  Just take a look at the close up below.  It makes my mouth water for those fruity green and orange jelly beans...most certainly NOT the black licorice ones.  

 

The soft beautiful flower on this card is Petaloo Darjeeling's Teastained Dahlias in Pink.

I simply added some light green punched fronds for filler. 

 

 

 

I could not ask for a more perfect blended flower cluster.  These Petaloo flowers give the card that feeling of Spring:

Petaloo has teamed up with Creative Embellishments this month for a fabulous product exchange.  This means I had the opportunity to add Creative Embellishments chipboard to my cards.  That brings a giant smile to my face. 

 

Mother's Day is fast approaching so I created 3 cards with a feminine touch just for the occasion.  It'll be here in a blink and I'll be prepared.

 

 

This is my first card.  I used Maja Design's newly re-released Sofiero collection for each of my cards.  

 

Here is a close up of the embellishments on this card.  

 The gorgeous lavender flower is Petaloo's Darjeeling Anemone in Purple .  The accenting  cream flowers  are Petaloo's Darjeeling Teastained Cream Dahlias .

 

The floral cluster rests atop a sweet chipboard piece, Creative Embellishments Chipboard - Flourish Set 2,  I kept the chipboard the natural color and dabbed some white wash over the chipboard.  

 

 

This is the second card.  I love how delicate this feels.  I think this is the one that my mom will receive.  For this card, I used the following flowers:

The chipboard treatments were kept quite simple with just white acrylic paint and a touch of brown edge inking.  

My last card is also rather delicate thanks to Petaloo and Creative Embellishments.

Now you may say to yourself -"hmmmm crazy Jennifer says she used Petaloo's Maroon Hydrangeas on this card.   And yet I see no maroon."  Well let me tell you how cool one packet of Petaloo Velvet - Hydrangeas in Maroon  can be.

The packet of hydrangeas has so many variations of color. I took a flower that had a little less maroon and more green and cream.  I cut it to add as the greens in the cluster.  I did not want to use the leaves from the package because they just were too big for my floral cluster.

Preparing for Easter with Petaloo

 

Easter is on it's Way at Petaloo

Hello.  Jennifer Snyder here to share my Easter decorations. Easter is fast approaching and I've been busy creating for the occasion.  Petaloo flowers are an essential part of my decorations adding cheer, pops of color and that extra gorgeous Spring touch. 

 

This is a table centerpiece created for the season.  It features some of Petaloo's exquisite fabric flowers in fabulous, festive purple and teal.  I think of those as wonderful Easter colors. 

 

 

Aren't the Petaloo flowers gorgeous resting around the bunny's neck?  Those flowers are:

Petaloo Mixed Textured Blossoms - Teal 

Petaloo Velvet Pansies - Purple 

 

The sweet little butterfly located near the bunny ears rests atop a bit of lace.  The butterfly,  

Petaloo Darjeeling Mini Butterflies in Purple , adds a darling little touch. 

 

I also embellished the bunny with some painted chipboard pieces from Creative Embellishments.  You can see more wonderful chipboard creations on their blog, here. I wanted the chipboard to be soft and subtle so they are simply painted white with a dab of green green distress ink. 

 

In the image above, you will also find the same Petaloo flowers as I have at it's neck.  I have provided  a side view to show some dimension.

As for the bunny shape- I purchased an unfinished wooden Easter bunny shape.  I painted with  white acrylic paint and added a layer of crackle medium to it after it dried.  This process took a few days since the crackle medium had to be thoroughly dry before I moved on to the fun embellishing phase.  Since this is a dimensional project to be placed on a tabletop, I needed to address both sides of the bunny and  could only do one side of the bunny at a time.

St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner -  a celebration of all things green and Irish.  As the saying goes, "Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day", including Petaloo.

While the Hydrangeas are not clovers, they certainly are great substitutes.  They are cheery, fun and the package comes with a great mix of greens.   

 

My project was created using a 9"x12" canvas board.  I bought a separate wooden clover shape from JoAnn's and thought it would be a cool piece to hang for those who love seasonal decor.  My husband plays in an Irish Band so St. Patrick's Day is a big deal around my house.  

 

I added an edited version of the sentiment on the canvas so you can see it easier.
It reads:
For each petal on the shamrock
This brings a wish your way.
Good health,
good luck,
and happiness
for today and everyday.

Cat Day at PET-aloo

It's Cat Day at PET-aloo 

Petaloo  is celebrating pet days. It's part of their nature after all...being a company named for pets... PET-aloo.  

 

   Jennifer Snyder here to share in the pet fun.  Yesterday I posted my dog cards.  Today the cats get their day in the spotlight.  I had to separate the two because if I didn't, I'd have tails and fur a'flyin.  Let's just say my cats aren't the best at sharing space with dogs.

This is a pop-up card I created for my husband.  I added gorgeous Petaloo flowers to the front of the card but left the inside unadorned because I wanted it to close flatly to surprise him.  This is the first pop-up card I have made so he was most certainly surprised.  

 

 

The front of this card features the

I used a super old collection for this card - My Minds Eye - Lost & Found Collection.  

 

And look at all these darlin's staring at you. 

 

 

 

Here is my next card.  

This card features a new flower -Fairy Blossom Branch (code 5016-101).  They are sweet delicate velvet flowers with a little sparkle to them.  Look for them to ship  soon!

I also used the  Petaloo Textured Elements -  Briar Rose Canvas in Red  though I chose a flower with a bit more pink from the package. 

 

 

This is my next card.  Sweet and simple.  I let the Petaloo flowers and cat silhouettes stand out on this card.  The cat silhouettes were made using the Tim Holtz -Crazy Cats and Dogs dies and accompanying stamps. 

I punched some cats out and really loved the negative space creating a delightful silhouette. 

The soft Petaloo flowers on this card include  the newly released -Fairy Blossom Branch  (code 5016-101), the green flowers from the package of  Petaloo Chantilly Hydrangea in Red  and some delicate Petaloo lace trim, Petaloo Crochet Lace Fancy Trim -White .

 I used the Petaloo Crochet Lace Fancy Trim -White as a border strip.  

This is the last card and a simple but graphically fun card.  It's a shaker card with  washi tape used as a background. This card also has the Petaloo Crochet Lace Fancy Trim  used as a border.  

I decided to use some of Petaloo's Jeweled Florettes in pastel colors - they are flat flowers that resemble the flowers on the patterned paper.  

I felt the shaker card was bulky enough to send through the mail - the flat flowers were a great alternative and still added a bedazzled element to the card.
