Cookies and Milk for Santa Recipe Folio

Hello, Friends!  Here we are in full Christmas countdown mode.  In a day or two, I will close the studio door, turn on the oven and begin our family's favorite Christmas tradition: Christmas Cookies!  I love to bake almost as much as I love to play with paper, so it's a very fun time for me.  The kids and neighbors love the cookies, and Santa does, too!  So I've created a little Cookies and Milk for Santa Recipe folio using Authentique's fun and festive Retro Christmas Collection.

Don't you just love these great retro patterns paired up with Petaloo Berries/Pine Branches, Darjeeling Mini Poinsettia and Vintage Velvet Holly Leaves? 

I tapped a little grit paste onto the pine cones, berries and poinsettia to add even more texture and wintry fun. 

 

The inside has both a pocket and a gatefold album that opens out accordion style. I had such fun making this banner with the stickers that come in the collection.

I used cardstock to create little recipe cards for the pocket.  Adding a punched border to the belly bands really made the papers pop.  The recipe card just slides out from under the belly band.  There is an additional recipe card glued to the back.  Now, all my favorite cookie recipes will be easy to find!

The top half of the folio has this fun little accordion album.  Just untie the ribbon and fold the pages out.

There are 12 small panels for photos and one large panel. 

I love to use the scraps on my worktable to make little cards or tags.  This cutie patootie Santa tag will really dress up a plate of cookies!  Once again, I tapped the Regal Gold Poinsettia with grit paste to resemble snow.  The green glitter stars are perfect playmates for this Retro Santa Tag.

Now that my kids are all grown and on their own, I enjoy doing holiday baking with our granddaughters.  It's such a privilege to pass this sweet tradition on to another generation.  So I'm off to find my apron, preheat the oven and get the holiday started!

Welcome to the Petaloo blog hop with our very special guests, Graphic 45 and Xyron.  I'm Jennifer Snyder.  As you scroll through this post, I'm sure you'll be able to see the fun and creative joy I had with all these wonderful manufacturers.  

 

I made a matching wooden box/card gift set.  My inspiration for the set was taken from the Graphic 45, St Nicholas collection - the traditional Christmas colors and imagery but with a marvelous twist. I found the bits of black in the paper and matching embellishments so alluring.  I had a black wooden cigar box in my stash and it finally needed to be used.  A divine pairing I must say!

 

This is a closer look at the box.  The front is adorned with Petaloo  Flowers - Darjeeling Mini Poinsettias in Red   nestled in the Petaloo Vintage Velvet Holly Leaves - surrounding Graphic45 - St Nicholas collection's chipboard.  

 

 

Below is the top view of the box - my "helicopter view" as I like to call it. 

 My gold accent choices really make that red and black of the paper and Petaloo flowers pop.  

 

Once again a Graphic 45 chipboard piece is used as a wreath adorned with Petaloo florals -Petaloo Flowers - Regal Velvet Poinsettia in Red  and Petaloo's Pine Pick w/Cones and Berries .

 

This is the card that I created to go with the gift box.  I used similar elements from the box to create cohesiveness - like the Graphic45 - St Nicholas chipboard, Petaloo Holly Leaves and the Poinsettia.   I used the berries from the Petaloo Pinecone Pick.  

 

 

 

I used the Xyron Tape Runner to help assemble the layers of the card.  the tape runner glides along the paper with super ease.  

 

Now for the inside of the gussied-up cigar box.  I grabbed Xyron's 3" Disposable Sticker Maker to adhere the Graphic 45 Die Cuts.  This was a fun process as well.

Hello, Friends!  Welcome to the Petaloo/Graphic 45 Holiday Hop!

The calendar has turned to November, and the holidays are upon us.  How did this happen so fast?  Soon we'll be bustling about with our shopping lists in hand, looking for just the right gift for friends and family.  But how about some "made with love" homemade gifts this year?  I have a few ideas to share with you, and I hope you'll find some inspiration that will help you to get your craft on this holiday.  These are quick and easy projects that are great little friend, teacher appreciation, Secret Santa, or co-worker gifts. 

 

Sugarplum Treat Caddy

Here's a sweet Sugarplum treat caddy that's as easy to make as 1-2-3!  I started with a Graphic 45 Staples Long Ivory Tag.  This was scored twice to create a 2" deep pocket.  Patterned paper was cut to match the pocket height, then scored to make a little side piece, forming a nice little pocket.  I covered the tag, front and back with patterned paper from the beautiful Saint Nicholas collection, added some gorgeous ribbons and Petaloo Holiday blooms then filled it up with Starlight mints. 

 

 

The fun thing about this Sugarplum treat caddy is that it can stand all on its own, so it is perfect for display on your desk or holiday mantel.  When it runs out of candy, just fill it up again!

 

 

I love these Regal Velvet Poinsettias!  Soooo scrumptious!

 

Sweet Treats Chocolate Box

 

I'm sure you have a small box somewhere in your home.  Why not cover it with pretty Saint Nicholas papers and dress it up with beautiful Petaloo paper poinsettias and Briar Roses?

 

 

This tiny box measures just 2.5" square.  I traced around the flattened box, then covered it with designer paper and tags. 

 

 

Postage stamps were cut out from the 12x12 papers and used to decorate the other sides of the box.  I used a quilling tool to create paper curls that were tucked in among a trio of Briar Roses on the lid.

 

Inside the box, I wrapped a stack of Ghiradelli Chocolates with a paper belly band.  Adding a simple snip of ribbon and a tag makes it look so pretty!  This little sweet treat sits nestled in a bed of white tulle, so it's really pretty when you open the package. 

 

Saint Nicholas Keepsake Christmas Card

This cutaway card is enhanced with Petaloo Poinsettias and White Glitter Snowflake picks.  It's designed with a cutawa card front, so you can see the pretty interior of the card .

 

 

I framed my itty bitty Christmas tree with star tinsel, then placed poinsettias all around the base.  The tree is decorated with glistening snowflakes. I twisted the cut off ends of the snowflake picks around my piercing tool to make the rustic looking vines that are tucked in with the poinsettias. 

 

 

The inside of the card is as elegant as the outside with more beautiful papers from the Saint Nicholas collection.  I tucked a mini Ghiradelli treat into one of the darling pockets from the Saint Nicholas Pockets and Tags Chipboard.  It's always fun to find a sweet surprise inside a pretty card!

 

 

So there you have it....3 quick and easy handmade gifts for holiday giving.  I made all three of these goodies on one Sunday afternoon.  Simple handmade gifts presented with love are the best gifts of all!

Guest designer - Michelle Frisby

A big hello from the bottom of the world.  Greetings to everyone, all the way from New Zealand.

 

I'm more than a little excited to have been asked to guest design using the most gorgeous products from the Petaloo team.  What an honour.

 

Now I know that the build up to Christmas is more than a little hectic, major understatement really, but now that Christmas has been and gone it's time to kick back and relax a little and hopefully you will find time just for yourself to be a little creative.

 

Before you put all those Christmas crafting goodies away, it just might be time to think about making a few more tags and cards and tuck them away, for dare I say it, next year.

 

I love making tags and cards.

Let me share a tag or two or three.

Using Authentique's "Believe" collection I whipped up these tags.

I cut myself three pieces of Kraft cardstock - 3" in length and 2" wide and covered them using a paper from the Believe 6x6 paper pad.

I then ran a green ink pad around the edges.

Using a variety of leaf dies I cut out a few pieces of foliage.

I have then put together embellishment clusters, almost like building a topper together using paper foliage, gorgeous berry clusters, Darjeeling flowers, a little muslin [cheesecloth] and some Christmas baubles.

 

 

 

 

 

Petaloo products used :

Darjeeling Mini Mix x 8 - Teastained Greens

Botanica Berry Clusters - red/green/burgundy

Sugared Berry Clusters

Authentique products used :

'Adorn' 12x12 paper

'Petite type' alpha stickers

'Details' 12x12 cardstock stickers

Variety of metal dies, ribbon lace, muslin, Christmas baubles, bell, string, pine cones and Aleene's True Snow, ink, cardstock, raffia

Now for a 6"x6" card ...

 

 

The base cardstock - cut a piece of 12" x 6" cardstock and score in half.

Cut a piece of patterned paper slightly smaller than 6"x6" and lightly distress edges and randomly apply True Snow to the edges.  Once dry adhere to cardstock. 

Cut a strip of white cardstock 6" x 1" and adhere approximately an inch up from the bottom of your card.  Cut a strip of the same patterned paper that you have used for the background and adhere to the white cardstock strip.

 

Cut out a variety of Christmas foliage using a mix of cardstock and patterned paper.

Adhere some berry cluster leaves and baubles on each side of your card, add a piece of corrugated card [pull apart that last packaging box that you received full of scrapping goodies - this is brilliant to use to help add height to your layering] and then layer and build up your foliage centre piece - I've also used a candle die [cut out twice] and layered them slightly askew of one and other, before centering and topping off the embellishment cluster with a gorgeous Petaloo flower and I've also tucked under one of the wee twine bows that I have removed from one of my berry clusters ... these are fabulous for pulling apart, making them go just that little bit further.

 

Adhere the 'Merry Christmas' paper die cut to the top right hand side of the card.

To finish, randomly apply 'True Snow' to give your card that 'snow' look.

Guest Designer ~ Tammy Henderson Angel Christmas Tree Topper

 Hi everyone! Back today to share with you my final project as guest designer. I made out of a simple 16.9oz water bottle. I made a Christmas Angel tree topper. Using the Authentique "Believe" collection and the perfect icing to any cake Petaloo Flowers! Here is the Angel we will be making.

 

 

This project was really fun to make and I hope you enjoy! Ok lets get started shall we?!

First I am gonna start with a couple of tips. Use double sided tape to stick your bottle to a smaller more manageable surface. I used a small cutting mat. This helps a lot with working with the bottle. The bottles now a days are made to collapse so the plastic is thin. This part will help when your project is complete because it will be a breeze to remove the bottom of the bottle for tree placement. Don't do any removal till the end. Also I painted mine at the top and added a smaller head at the start but replaced it with a little larger head toward the end. All I used to make the head was air dry clay. All I needed to paint was the head because I covered the entire bottle up.


 1st. The Cuts for the Dress portion is 8x12. I used the Believe "Tidings" piece for this. Save the excess because it will be used for the bottom of the dress. I also inked the edges of this piece with Tim Holtz walnut distress stain. Then misted the entire piece with water and glycerin trick that Alda has taught me. This helps the paper act more like cloth. Dry to a damp but not wet state.

 

2nd. Form the top part of the paper in a pleating manner around the top of the cap of the bottle. Don't attach just form. You will want to adjust so that the paper meets in the back of the bottle at a angle. This will allow for cutting and tree placement later.

 

 

3rd. Now take the dress portion down and build your bottom part. This is made with the leftover scrap. You will want to fold the paper to leave about a 1/2inch showing, then punch with your fave punch. I used a strip of lace to hang just below to give the appearance of a skirt. Then stamped with some stitching stamps.

  

 

4th. attach to bottom of dress.

5th, Attach to bottle. I used some Beacons to secure it to the top of the bottle. Be sure to follow evenly around the bottle as possible. Again leaving the bottom at the back not meeting. See above photo.

6th. Now to cut the part for the cloak/arms. Cut a circle 11 1/8 inches. I used the Believe "Adorn" paper for this part.

 

 7th. You will want to mark a inside center circle 1 3/4 inch. Then measure from the base of the circle inside 11/16ths and bottom angels measure 5 5/16th which will be at the bottom of the circle itself. here is a pic to give you a idea of the cuts. Then cut this section out. It should look like pic below.

 

 8th. I edged the whole piece with Tim Holtz Peeled paint distress ink. Misted with water mixture and let the paper relax. When mostly dry I attached some lace to the under side and folded back for the arms. You don't need to crease. But once you get the lace attach and arms folded back place on your bottle again before gluing to adjust to the size of the cap and even out the arm placement. It should fit right over the top of the dress piece without any needs for pleating. After you have this done then use some double sided tape and attach the arms on the inside of the inside piece. Before I glued the piece together I added a little piece of lace at the top to give a more finished look to the dress part. Now glue to the top of the bottle. Once attached I added some Petaloo Embossed Velvet Flora Doodles as a collar for the cloak.

 

 

 

9th. Notice in the above photo I now have the correct head size attached. I think it looks much better! The head size is about 1 1/16 inch. I painted the whole head with some gesso then just the front part with some 13 arts paint in matte peach lightly and watered down slightly. Then attached to the bottle and gave her some hair. I used some wool yarn. I separated the yarn out so to look more like hair instead of yarn. Then braided a little piece to go completely around the head and added a Petaloo Darjeeling Petite in Teastaine Green to the side. Of the head. Also wrapped a little fun yarn around the neck to pose as a winter scarf.

 

10th. I made the wings and attached to the back. I used Creative Embellishments wings I had on hand. Covered them with gesso and added a piece of the Believe "Novelty" to the backs of them. Before I attached the wings I used a small piece of cardboard attached to the back below the head cover with matching paper of the cloak. Then I attached the wings to that. It helped with centering and to allow the wings to look properly when attached. Instead of flat to the back.

 

11th. Final part of this is the icing! The Petaloo flowers of course! I added them to a Creative Embellishments wreath that I had inked up with some Tim Holtz distress stain in peeled paint.  I also added more of the Darjeelings in red and greens to the hair. On the Wreath I used the Darjeeling Petites in Red on the lower half of the wreath. The upper half of wreath I used Faux Dried Berry Clusters the red ones and because they are pull aparts I used a leaf from one of the green ones in the set and divided up my red berries to go on each side. Then Layered the Burlap blossoms in white a few more of the Petites in green. The small red flowers are Darjeelings mini Mix in teastaine Red. The larger green flower is a from the mixed textured blossoms in moss green.

Here is another close up of the crystals on the "Sugared"Bontanica Blooms in burgundy... beautiful.  There are 6 colors of sugared blooms.

Of course, the "Sugared" Botanica Berries have crystals on them too.  The berries come in six holiday colors: red, blue, green, peach, brown and teal.  My favorite "trick" with the berries?  You can use the entire cluster on a card or tag or pull the berries apart and tuck them behind a flower! 

 

If you are a cat lover ... Raining Cats and Dogs from Graphic 45 has some adorable cat images as well.  This is such a versatile paper!!  The Kitty Card (above) works for a birthday but it could also be used for the holidays too!  It features "Sugared" Botanica Blooms in teal and ivory along with "Sugared"Botanica Minis in teal.

 Let's change color palettes for a moment...this new paper called Time to Celebrate from Graphic 45 is such a pretty birthday paper! (above)  Naturally, we have "Sugared" Botanica Blooms and "Sugared" Botanica Minis to match the paper! Altered Ballet Slipper

Happy Holidays and welcome to the Petaloo Blog!  We have a special treat today...a Guest Designer ... Nichola Battilana!  

 We are so thrilled to have her join us for the holidays and we hope you enjoy her beautiful Christmas designs as much as we do...

One day, not so very long ago, a lovely lady gave me a rather large bag of pointe shoes. In her previous life she had been a ballet dancer and had saved her old slippers, all beaten and well worn. My two left feet have forever prevented my participation in dance (except in my kitchen when no one is looking) so ballet slippers have always held a sort of wonderment to me. The Petaloo products seemed the perfect pairing for those magic slippers.

 

The very first thing I did was to prepare the slipper. The shoe has been lined with “My True Love” from the 12 Days of Christmas collection from Graphic 45. The toe of the slipper was then stuffed, forming a sturdy base to embellish.

 

Loads of lovely Petaloo florals and feathers have been used to decorate the toe. I love the rich and vibrant colours, so elegant and quite dainty. The cranberry Floral Ephemera is absolutely divine. I’ve also added a beautiful Petaloo Vintage Tricket too.

 

Inside the shoe I’ve added some organza and Cream Chantilly-Velvet Hydrangeas along with a fussy cut lady from the 8” Ladies Dancing sheet.

 

You can see here that the paper seams in the slipper have been hidden with a bit of glitter.

 

The paper edges around the opening have been finished with a bit of ribbon. The heel completed with a tiny bow and a Petaloo Shades of White Brad.

 

By working slowly, and in layers, the old ballet slipper is eventually transformed into a lovely memento, a Christmas gift to its former owner.

Hello Petaloo fans! At last, it's my turn to share some Christmas projects with you all using Authentique's collections with Petaloo's goodness!

First up is a winter Christmas layout using Authentique's Glistening collection with tons of Petaloo's trims and blooms.

I've added some glitter paint to the flowers to give some sparkle to it.

My second project is a Christmas card.

This time, I've chosen the warmer tones in Authentique's Joyous collection with Petaloo's holiday flowers.

These poinsettas are perfect for any Christmas projects. They add a touch of warmth to the projects! Love it!
