Altered Tin and Father's Day Card

With a heavy heart, I have to say this is my last post for Petaloo, I want to put a big thank you out there to Jeff and Cheryl for giving me this opportunity and trusting in me to showcase their product, Their kindness and caring is over the top. Thank you so much for your friendships. Not a good bye but a see you later. 

I want to thank the followers, consumers  and supports of Petaloo and the rest of the Design Team, for your support,  compassion and kind words. 

 

I have a fun altered tin and card made especially for dad! You cant go wrong with rust, gears and steampunk. The tin is to hold all of Daddy's sweet treats.

 Because Brown is not a favorable colour for flowers, sometimes you just have to make them yourself. I used the Dajeerling Teastained   for the larger flowers and sprayed them golden yellow, with the Mini Mix I simply ink distressed them for the grunge look.

For the tin I used a rust technique to grunge it up and added the flowers and metal embellishments.

So the kids and I will fill this with daddy's favorite sweet treats and leave the extras close so he can finish those off as well. (A sweet tooth in denial)

My project is an altered Butterfly cage made with the softness of the vintage spring collection.

I detail cut almost the whole page of butterflies from the paper, not knowing how many would be enough, after I matched them front and back I added them to wire to make them look like they were flying within the cage.

I even had some escape from the cage, but as most butterflies are attracted to flowers, I used the Penny Lane blossoms to keep them where they should be.

Adding the effect of moss and grass I added some mushrooms and more mini petite daisy along with the mixed blossoms to the floor of the cage, making it a cozy little home.

 

Using a layer of paper on the background I added some subtle texture with a stencil.

Hi, all Heather here sharing a fun, spring layout. this is a picture of my daughter outside by the ponds a few years back. She has this look about her and I captured at just the right time.

I did some simple photo matting on the picture and some subtle background detail work.  I used one of the beautiful Botanical Blooms for the center of the large flower cluster.

And then added smaller darjeerlings and velvet hydrangeas to fill in the spaces. At a recent weekend get-a-way at Maggi's house, I got to play with all her fun scrape stuff, so I filled in with some die cut leaves to match the paper.

Momma's Boy Layout ~ By Heather

Hello all, Heather here today. As mother's day fast approaches,  I am drawn to scrap those precious child photos. This photo is one of my neighbor's little boy and her brother. Such an innocent looking photo and perfectly captured. 

 

 

I recently had a girls weekend getaway and had a small stash of supplies with me to use, so minimal is sometimes better, this masculine layout was perfect for simple. Subtle background details with stamping and some texture. 

Masculine layouts and flowers are such a hard concept sometimes but these neutral tea-stained Dahlias work great with a little oxide inks splattered on them. Neutral and they don't take away from the focal point of the layout. 

A few extra details with some metal embellishments and chippies and the perfect masculine layout captured.

Spring Tag and Card

Hello today, I hope to finally say that Spring is here. Although weather in central US can be surprising. I was inspired to make a Spring tag and card set.

I made a little video to share my creative process.

 

 

After a fair number of layers of the beautiful Botanical Tea Collection I touched the card and tag off with some Textured Elements. The Rosettes are perfectly matched with this paper collection.

Soft subtle distressed edges offsets the pretty details of the paper, and the soft texture of the rosettes add beauty to the set.

Hi all, Heather here today. As Easter is on its way I wanted to make some eggs for the kids. I picked up some ugly florescent green eggs from the store. They are quite large and I thought I could really stuff some goodies in there for the kids.

I actually made one for Maksim and one for Olivia, I let them pick their colours and got their creative input on during the process. Olivia wanted pinks of course.

After lots of layers decoupaging tissue paper to cover up the horrid green I finally got a base down.

And after playing around with some  brusho's, it was time to just add all the details and pretties.

Lots of beautiful texture, Maksim wanted to add some pops of blue, wasn't a fan of the purple after the fact.

Olivia totally loved hers, between the little surprises hidden with in all the flowers.

I love how these turned out I used a ton of flowers, between Botanical, Darjeeling and some older Petaloo from my stash I have been waiting for the perfect project to use them on. 

 With a little white washing with some gesso, I now get to have the fun off filling the eggs with lots of goodies for the kids. 

 

Happy Easter to all and only time spent with friends and family.

As St. Patrick's Day fast approaches, I wanted to make something fun and festive that really was bright, and showed the true spirit of St. Patrick's Day.

The kids at school have a holiday celebration and get to dress up, I decided I would add a headband to the hat so Olivia could wear it to school.

I started out coveing the whole hat with a some pretty Italian crepe paper, and layering it with tulle and trim. I wanted to make it fun so I added some peacock feathers and a beautiful florish from Creative Embellishments.

 

I tucked in gears and velvet Pansies, along with some diamond mesh to add some more bling to the assamblage.

 

I added a big colourful brooch  amoungst the Dahlia's.

I added a buckel and Mini Butterfly to the other side and added a special touch of some hat pins to top it off.

The shamrock was just as fun, crepe paper and lots of layering with the gears, velvets, and dahlias.

So Happy St. Patricks Day for all my Irish friends and to all that help celebrate the great heritage and traditions. Enjoy and Be safe.

Our Feathered Friends

 Hi today, Heather here. I hope you all are enjoying some Petaloo Pets.  We want to share the love with not only those four legged friends, but two legged, winged, finned and/or feathered. So today I am sharing an elegant three tiered cake.  My project is showcasing the Finch surrounded  by from Relics & Artifacts I had these three round gift boxes that came one inside each other. I had thought of stacking them and putting some precious gifts in the inside.

 I started out by decorating the bases with some paper, trimming it with some Dresden trim and adding some pretty Fancy Trims in Aqua and Cream. After all was applied with the paper decorating, I decided to glue them all together. 

 Afterthought I could have used a small thin velcro so they were removable, but you can still take off the tops to put some goodies on the inside.  

 I actually dug out those old Fun Flocks that were such a craze a few years back and decided to add some pretty fluffiness to the finch. I hand painted the eyes and the beak 

 And now it was time to add the gorgeous flowers. I used some new Ruffled Peony from the 2017 Spring release, along with a ton of other beautiful Darjeeling teals and creams.

So I am going to package up the tiers with lots of goodies for the bride to be and send a little love with it. I hope she enjoy's it. Thank you for taking a peak today and enjoy our Petaloo Pets inspiration.

As Valentine's is just around the corner, I am trying to be a bit festive. This holiday always seems to sneak up fast and then it’s gone. I decided to alter this chicken wire heart frame with the perfect Mon Amour Collection from Graphic 45, and paired it with some fabulous Botanical Blooms from Petaloo.

And yes for the record I did fussy cut some of the flowers and butterflies out, so to add some little extra special touches to the piece.

 

I used some rock candy crackle to give texture to the chipboard along with some powder in the crackles to help highlight the details.
