Wedding Chapel With Gardens for the Bride and Groom

 

Jennifer Snyder here to share a fun piece of home decor I created to celebrate February, the month of love.  Nothing says true love like a wedding.  And nothing adds beauty to a project like Petaloo flowers.  I have added Petaloo gardens all around the chapel for warmth and charm.  

 

I hope you enjoy my little photo session with the happy couple. If you scroll down a bit, I'll show you a few tips on how I created both the chapel and the bride and groom. 

In this shot, I've placed the newlyweds in the back garden.  Here is a close up of the back garden complete with a trellis made from wood skewers and a chipboard birdhouse.

I used Maja Design's Summertime paper collection to create both the chapel and the bride's gown.

The Chapel

This is how the chapel looked before it was covered and decorated.

This is a cardboard house that I purchased on clearance the end of the Christmas season from Michael's.  I am always watching for these types of little end-of-season treasures when I shop - at a discount of course. 

 

I started covering the roof first, one punched strip at a time -starting at the bottom and working my way up, as roofing shingles would typically appear.

 

Each shingle strip is securely applied to the chapel using a coat of sealant on both sides.   I used matte finish Mod Podge.  There are other options as well- clear gel medium, or a thin mixture of white glue and water painted on each strip.  

 

I created this piece for the Petaloo display booth at Creativation (formerly known as CHA)held this past January, so the Mod Podge protected the paper from fingerprints, ripping, peeling and actually provided more support to the cardboard structure.  It helps create a durable decor piece.  

 

After the Mod Podge roofing was dried, I moved on to add some texture to the sides of the building.  

The next few photos show how I combined stencils, stamps, and paste ( or heavy gesso) to create the appearance of brickwork.  

 

Below is another side view of the chapel.  This side has a sweet Petaloo Darjeeling Butterflies - Teastained in cream.  

The Bride and Groom

Next , I'm moving on to showcase my bride and groom.  The beautiful blushing bride is carrying a Petaloo floral bouquet made of Petaloo Penny Lane - Forget Me Nots - Antique Red .

The handsome groom has a boutineer made of Petaloo Mini Daisy Petites Pink .

 

 

Now I'll share some of my tips for making the bride and groom from Prima's Julie Nutting Doll Stamps (Camille and Adam).   I love making the dolls 3-dimensional so they stand.  I believe I have come up with a very cool and simple doll stand that works nicely for this couple. 

 

 

The first step is to stamp several layers for the body, including one layer of thin cardboard (chipboard). I want my doll to stand and be durable - not bendable.  This doll has a front and a back that people will see so it was important for me to make the back appealing.  

 

To create the back, I stamped a third image and turned it around to use the un-stamped back side. The long bridal veil covers the backside perfectly so no stamping is really needed.

 

Next - I used a large binder clip for the base.  I removed the metal handles after the clip was in place. At this point, I was able to cover the binder clip with more stamped layers creating the dress.  

Here is the side view showing the binder clip and how I covered the clip with paper layers.  

 

I  snuggled the groom up behind his bride and glued them together for life.  I covered the backside up with the long lace veil.  You cannot tell that the backsides are not stamped.  

Here is a view of the bottom of the clip.  They stand perfectly balanced.

Here are some additional photos of the joyful event.  More garden shots, and a photo of the front steeple.  The beautiful heart shape on the steeple is a resin piece that Petaloo made a few years back.  I had been saving it for a perfect occasion.

SNEAK PEEK ~ Garden Roses

 

It's that time of year again ... the Craft and Hobby show (CHA) is approaching!

 What does that mean?  We have lots of new spring product ready to introduce to the craft store owners  ...

Our second collection for spring is our new Garden Rose Collection. 

 

 ROSES are a classic flower.  They come in a variety of styles and hundreds of colors! 

 

We have created three styles of roses that are made from a cotton/poly fabric.  The cotton blend allows our flowers to be dyed into deep and rich colors : purples, reds, peaches, pinks and a new color we call Guava.

Our cotton material also allows the flowers to be further colored or altered with ANY glitter, ink, sprays or dyes.

 

So what are the three new styles of roses?

Garden Roses

These flowers are as realistic as they come ... all they need is a rose scent.  They will come in 8 soft colors: red (shown) white, cream, pink, blue, purple, peach and guava.  They are beautifully packed with five flowers:  two larger 2.5 inch flowers and three 1.5 inch flowers.

Couldn't you see them used in a wedding, a party, for home décor, a birdcage for the garden, glued on to a ladies hair comb or other projects?!

 

Fairy Rose Buds

We took a little liberty with this flower and added some filmy sheer material to the petals.  Its gives this rose bud a fantasy look that is both dreamy and beautiful.

They come in the same 8 colors as the Garden Rose so that they may be used together...

Couldn't you see them used in a DIY wedding bouquet, a centerpiece, a boutinnere, a flower girl basket, or glued on to a little girls headband or tabletop topiary projects?!

OMG ... we love this little pick!  It has so many possibilities ... it is small enough to use for paper crafting and card making but it is strong enough to use as a bouttinere in a DIY wedding.

Happy I Do Day!

Wedding Tag By Bibiana

 

Hello Dear Petaloo Friends:

Here Bibiana...

sharing with you this wedding tag made with "Petaloo" flowers...

 

I received these gorgeous white and cream flowers and the theme was "wedding" so this tag came to life...

I used a "Graphic 45" large tag, covered it with some designers papers in light colors.
Added some lace around and in the corner ...
placed a small frame from "Melissa Frances" and embellished it with 3 "Petaloo" pics.

I added some more flowers from the NEW collection all around the frame, tucked some tulle, ribbon, rings and pearls and Voilà!

My favorite one is the Calla Lily in pure soft white paper...that comes with extra little green flowers...
The ivory flowers add great texture with the velvet and the tulle fabrics!

 

These particular flowers are from the "new" collection called "paintables", which as their name say it they are totally alterable....in my next project with them I will showcased how to alter them!...

Rustic Wedding

Hello!  Shellye here today to share a quick and easy addition to a rustic wedding theme. 

Living in Texas, we love our rustic themed weddings filled with mason jars, galvanized buckets and burlap!  These gorgeous "Daisy Burlap and Canvas" flowers were the perfect embellishment.

I grabbed this cute idea from Pinterest. Although they used a wooden tag, I created mine with Kraft paper, a scroll die and some distress ink.  The font is AeroliteCPone.

I used wire-edged burlap ribbon to create a bow to the side and then stacked several of the blooms together, finishing it off with a pink Burlap Blossom. 

To add balance, I also added a smaller cluster to the bottom.  The black printed canvas blossoms tie in with the black font printed on the tag.  It all came together so nicely!

This literally took me minutes to put together, which is wonderful if you have a laundry list of goodies to make!  I was also thinking that place cards or food markers printed onto the same Kraft paper and then embellished with smaller burlap flowers would make such a cute tablescape.  Or use the same flowers to decorate a chalkboard, framed photos, etc...there are so many possibilities!

DIY wedding with Petaloo

Today I created a Ring Pillow with Petaloo flowers. I used Petals new DIY Paintables to add a cool effect using embossing powders. Its super easy:

You will need some white glue and a small paintbrush

Embossing Powders- I used a teal and metallic silver

Heat Gun

For the pillow I used:

9.5x9.5 piece of fabric

polyester stuffing

After you emboss your flowers, just arrange how you like then hot glue down. Add two long pieces of trim- enough to make a loose bow to hang the rings on.

And don't forget to add a little strap on the back before you sew it -to make sure that little ring bearer doesn't drop it!

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed and Something Blue

 Hello everyone! Tammy here today on the Petaloo blog to share a wedding inspired project with you. Bet ya couldn't tell from the title huh? LOL Weddings and Petaloo have something wonderful in common! FLOWERS! :) This month being June and all. It was a perfect match for a post. 

 I am not sure that everyone has, or knows about a certain wedding tradition called passing the hat. Were you pay at the reception to dance with the bride. You put money in a hat and take your turn. The money collected goes to the bride and groom for the honeymoon.

Anyways that was, well kinda the idea behind my project with the exception of a hat that is.. :) I found a cool Mason jar at Wally world and things called Jar Jewelry. Humm... How about a jar instead of a hat?! Maybe to even put well wishes for the bride and groom.. Or a flameless candle? The sky's really the limit on what you could use it for, so I started layering mediums and paint. This is what I came up with..

The project actually took twists and turns that I wasn't expecting (but should have). First working with the glass heating tools,  well they heat up the glass. So be careful don't burn yourself and don't break the glass. Now I don't think breaking the glass would be up there in the top, because it is a mason jar and well they are meant for canning. That gets REALLY HOT let me tell ya. Just keep it in mind. I did use a heating gun with mine. That's the reason the paint is cracked and why I have white on there as well. But I really liked how it turned out and was glad that it worked out that way! :) Love those unexpected surprises!! Lets get a closer look at the project..

All the flowers are from the Petaloo Botanica collection. I used the Teal blooms and White mini's. These are my fave colors! LOL Just love them to bits!

 Love cascading flowers! I extended it with a little bit of 13 Arts glass beads, and highlighted it with some Silks in guatemalan Green, and gesso. Super fun way to add to a flower cluster on any project. I also gave a light dusting of the gesso on my blooms. Just an added umph.

Handmade Weddings with Petaloo

I don' think there is anything funner than planning a DIY wedding! I have some friends getting married this summer and my contribution to their small Vintage Skate themed backyard wedding is a cute up-cycled wedding card box. I found the perfect box at Homegoods and with two sheets of Graphic 45 paper and ton of Petaloo flowers- made it into something special and personalized. I used Petaloos Teastained Dahlias in the perfect shades of blue along with some extra vintage buttons and glittery gypsum to add a little sparkle and shine on the inside.

Here are some tips for cutting your paper for the inside of any shape box:

 

Start by simply tracing the entire lid onto a piece of card stock. Then measure the thickness of the lid on the inside. Mine was about a quarter inch.

Then, on the inside of the traced line- I used my ruler to make dashes 1/4 inch in from my trace line- stealing for the theory of seam allowance from sewing - only its and inside allowance.

Then I just trace and cut out the inside line- pop it into the lid and make any additional adjustments.

Now it's safe to cut into my beautiful Graphic 45 cardstock without fear of it not fitting!

Everlasting Love Album

Hello!  Shellye with you today as we enter in to what is commonly known as "the wedding month".  I love the idea of having an album compiled of handwritten sentiments of well wishes and advice for the new couple, so the inner pages are blank for guests to write on!

I started with a plain 9.5"X11" chipboard album and covered the outside with papers from the new "Enchanted" Collection by Authentique. 

Crochet lace was added by using strips of high tack adhesive. 

After die-cutting a small mat and embellishing it with various stickers, a cluster of Botanica Blooms and Minis were added.  Two of the pearl ends were removed from the Spring Berry Cluster and adhered with craft glue. 

The album can easily be displayed on an easel and double as a focal point or centerpiece for a reception table.  Just mix in colors of flowers to match the bride's color scheme and you'll have a gift that will be forever remembered!
