Kids projects with Cherry Nelson

Hey there!  Cherry here today to share another fun kid's project.  Dare I say a very feminine girly project. Darling little vintage style button cards using all the gorgeous Petaloo blooms.  Yipppppeeee!   I so hope I have a granddaughter some day so I can do these types of projects with her!  These especially remind me of my mama...she loved to sew, so these are very special to me!

                        So first off...lets grab oooodles of our Petaloo blooms, cardstock, ink, and some stamps.  Lots of ribbons too....you always have to have ribbons. 

ribbons and flowers are like PP and J.....you can't have one with out the other.  I cut my card stock into different fun shapes.  I even used my teeny tiny diecut that makes the button cards look more legit with a hole at the top to hang. 

 

Grab some fun stamps and just have fun with this part....creating the way you want your "vintage button cards" to look! 

From here ....I am like a kid in a candy store but with flowers.....these are what make these little button cards come alive. 

 

Look how gorgeous the Botanica collection looks.....they look  old fashion to me  like they are old millinary flowers pulled from a ladies hat. I think they really make the star of the show!!!  These would be sweet tied to a little girl's birthday present, or given at a tea party as a parting gift.  Tied together they put make a sweet banner for a little girl's room.  So many possiblities.

Graduation milestones by Cherry Nelson

Hello Petaloo Peeps!  Cherry here with my first ever design team post.  It is all about the "Grads" this time of year.  Our family is no exception. My son just graduated as valedictorian of his class this past weekend.  A wonderful but bittersweet milestone. With his graduation party we kept with a classic black/white theme.  I just love this color combo and think it is perfect for graduation projects.  I decided to make a card using this simple but effective combination. 

I used Papers from Canvas Corps.  They complimented the burlap daisies perfectly. 

 

I love playing with all the layers you can create with these blooms.  Instead of putting a stamen or button in the middle I decided to use one of the burlap picks.  I love all the dimension it added.  The picks added such a classic touch to this card!

From here I added a hand stamped sentiment and some black scrunched seam binding.  Other than that, a key was tucked into the bloom as a symbolic touch.  "the key to your future".

What fun I had making this little scene here to celebrate Father's Day for my husband.  He's a real grease monkey as his hobby is building streetrods.  Now, the best thing about that is he can NEVER say a word about my scrappy spending habits because building streetrods is way more expensive!

So, I borrowed that cut little vintage gas tank from his miniature car collection and using a Canvas Corp 6 x 6 canvas; I "parked" an old car in a field of Petaloo blooms beside the tank!  The first step in creating my canvas was to paint the canvas with a thick coat of white gesso so that my mist and masking would be easier to apply.    After the gesso dried, I misted the canvas with both silver and suede Glimmer Mist.  Next came some stenciled on bricks.  Then the fun part, dying the flowers, adding the photo and the fun embellishments.

 

All the flowers I used are Petaloo DIY meaning that they are made especially for coloring as they all come white.  I used Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist to color them in fun shades of silver and red. These flowers are so easy to color and it's great that you can perfectly match your blooms to your project!

 

Canvas Corp makes a fun Paper Banner Kit and I used that to create my banner that I covered with Canvas Corp burlap.  Then I topped off each banner with strips of Canvas Corp paper and heat embossed gears.  I spelled out the name using Tattered Angels High Impact Paint. and sme really old foam stamps.  That is great paint, it worked great on the burlap.

Upcycled Gift Tags with Petaloo

Hello, Friends!  I have a true confession to make: I adore Petaloo products!  I even adore their pretty packaging. The background colors and patterns are so lovely, I can never quite bring myself to toss them in the recycle bin.   I have been saving the chipboard bases from my Botanica Mini Blossoms for a while now, and decided it would be a fun "upcycling" project if I turned them into whimsical  upcycled gift tags.  So I dug into my stash of coral Petaloo posies, broke out my Graphic 45 Once Upon a Springtime paper collection and started to play.

You'd never believe that these darling little tags started out as Petaloo packaging, would you? The wonderful thing about the chipboard bases, aside from the fact that they are pretty, is how sturdy they are.  They are just the right thickness for mixed media projects, and the size is perfect for a gift tag.

 

I have always loved this precious images from Once Upon a Springtime.  And, I super love the fact that the Coral range of Petaloo flowers are a picture perfect match for the color palette of these enchanting papers.  It's so nice when products work together seamlessly, isn't it?

 

 

Each tag is built with the same basic "recipe" which I will share with you below in a Snapguide tutorial. 

 

 

I left the packaging hole uncovered, so you can just slip ribbon through the top and attach to your gift.  Or, string all three together to make a sweet banner!

Enjoy the sunshine

 

Happy Tuesday to Everyone ...

 

We have some exciting news today ... we want to welcome a new Design Team Member to the Petaloo Family ... Cherry Nelson.

 

 

We are so excited to have her join us ... she is a wonderful designer who loves to make cards and here are three great samples using the brand new paper from Simple Stories ...

 

Hellllllllllllllo folks!  Cherry here today to share in all the fun festivities! So excited to be joining the Petaloo Design Team.   I created three cards....once I got going I just could not stop.  First up a sweet card I used diecuts on to create a fun "sunshine" to add to the theme.  I layered it with a tea stained bloom in yellow from the mini mix.

Aren't those mini butterflies the cutest thing you have ever seen?  They really made this card come to life. 

 

I had to dot my "I" in the sunshine sentiment with another butterfly. 

Next up a card using the Simple Stories journal cards paired with the mini mix tea-stained blooms in pink along with the tea stained pink petites.

 

 

I love that little birdie from the Sunshine and Happiness fundamental cardstock stickers!!!  I am hoarding the other one found on the sheet.

 

Next up a fun card turned birthday card using the happy sentiment from the card stock stickers layered with another mini mix bloom. 

 

 

Perfect Summer time Birthday card for someone special!  The little leaves that come in this collection are adorable. 

 

So easy to bring these cards together with all the fun embellishments and layers you can add!

Queen for a Day

Hello, Friends!  When I was a little girl, I remember watching an afternoon show with my mom called "Queen for a Day."  We would snuggle up together on the couch and wait for the announcer to call out, "Do YOU want to be Queen for a Day?" at which point the women in the audience would clap and shout and cheer.  A few would be picked to come on stage and be interviewed, and finally the contestant who received the most applause would be crowned "Queen for a Day" complete with a tiara, a fur-trimmed red velvet robe, a bouquet of long stemmed roses,and loads of fabulous prizes...like a washer and dryer, kitchen appliances or maybe even a night out on the town. (Oh, how times have changed!)

This show obviously had a huge impact on my young mind, and for years when I made Mom her Mother's Day card I would emblazon "Queen for a Day" across the front of the card because, let's face it, Mom is supposed to be Queen for a Day on Mother's Day!  My mom has been in heaven for a number of years now, but I still make at least one Mother's Day card each year to give away.  This year, I used Graphic 45's Gilded Lily to make this whimsical "If the Crown Fits" Mother's Day Pocket Card.

 

I layered up soft pink and gold and glittered papers with the gorgeous prints in Gilded Lily.  The "Queen" was fussy cut, and I rounded out her ball gown before I glued it down.  She is floating on a sea of gorgeous pink Petaloo Flowers: Velvet Dogwoods, Velvet Hydrangeas, Mixed Blossoms and Canvas Dogwoods.

 

Those sumptuous flowers,  fancy filigree corner, baby pink seam binding bow and copper crown charm make this card fit for a Queen!

 

And if we're going to "gild the lily" we might as well carry all this gorgeousness over to the inside of the card.  I love the sentiment panel on the left: "Keep Calm and Adjust Your Tiara."  What mom out there hasn't lived THAT day?  And look at all the lovely Ladies in Waiting on the right hand side of the card.  They are ready to answer Queen Mom's every whim. 

The pocket on the right contains an ephemera card from the collection with lots of room for you to write Mom a mushy note or a sweet memory.  Because at the end of the day, that's what Mom really wants, isn't it?  I dressed this up for the party with more Fancy Trims and a singular Velvet Dogwood Blossom and leaf.  ( Here's a handy hint: when you glue down those pretty velvet leaves, "scrunch" them up a little with your fingers to make them look even more realistic! )

Tuck in a gift card for a day at the spa, and Mom will really feel like she's Queen for a Day!

A Mother's Day card by Cherry Nelson

  Hello Petaloo peeps!  Cherry here today to share an oh so shabby card for Mom.  With Mother's Day coming up this would be a perfect greeting!

 

I fell in love with the yellow burlap butterflies in the textured elements collection.  That was my inspiration for this card. 

 

I used paper scraps, Canvas Corp pattern papers, and a few embellishments to add some black accents.  I think it adds a nice contrast and a bit of sophistication. 

 

 For my sentiment I used a diecut tag that I hand stamped and a sweet fussy cut banner sentiment from Canvas Corps.  So what do you think?  Guaranteed to bring some sunshine to Mom?  I think so!

Mother's Day will be here soon, need some card ideas?

Hi Petaloo friends!  Maggi here with a couple of Mother's Day cards for you.   Whenever I make something for my Mother I am reminded of being a small child and how she always proudly displayed my things.  Now, I am really amused that it makes me so happy to see that she still displays the things I make her all around the house, just as she did when I was a child.  My Mom is the best and I'm so lucky that she is still going strong at 94!

I made this first card with flowers from our burlap collection and  Authentique's Utopia collection.   Love how these bright pink blooms go so well with the papers.

 

I nestled a cord bow from our Fancy Trims line underneath my flowers.  I think it adds a

 nice festive touch!

 

Here you can see the "step" in the card.  These are my favorite cards to make 'cause I love how the stand up so nicely.  Here's a link to a template for this card, if you'd like to make one yourself.

I made this card from Graphic 45's Children's Hour collection and dressed it up with Petaloo burlap and velvet blooms..  The Mom in this image sure has a lap full of kids!  Reminds me of both my grandmothers as they had 7 and 8 children.  I can't imagine, LOL!!

 

 

I like to nestle hydrangeas underneath larger blooms. They are great for filling in tiny spaces.
