Hi everyone!
Lynne here and today I'm sharing a layout with you of my grand-son Jackson and his friend Charlie the Beagle. These two, just love each other! So yes, Every Puppy Should Have A Boy!!
Once again, I dug deep in my stash to create this layout. Every year I resolve to use up as much of my stash as I can. I might be kidding myself into thinking I can ever use it all up!!! But I'm trying!
For the background, I layered a some strips of patterned paper, then a wash of gesso. Once dry I added some Shimmerz in blue and orange. On top of that I ran some molding paste and dimensional paint in green through a stencil....these were layered over each other at the same time. Finally, I added strips of torn lace covered in the blue Shimmerz, then some stamping in orange, and some wriggly lines in a teal marker.
Here you can really see the texture I achieved with more dimensional paint, over the chippy keyhole. I used a brush and just dabbed it on.
Of course, my favorite part always includes adding flowers! Yes, even on boy layouts!! The Vintage Velvet Peonies, Briar Roses in Canvas and the Garden Rosettes, layer so beautifully together!! A few smaller blooms, Textured Mini Blossoms, Hydrangeas and Jeweled Florettes, complete the look.
The gorgeous colors of these blooms, keep the look from being too feminine, but add enough softness to keep it from being too harsh.
Hey there Paper Peeps! Ginny here and I'm excited to share a fun halloweeny project today with vintage images, layered patterned papers, and gorgeous Petaloo flowers. I used non-traditional colors for the holiday inspired by the background color from the image. Because why be normal? That little boy is sweet and charming I could not resist creating a project with him. The tag in the background was inked and stamped and embossed with more traditional Halloween colors. Not too much of it is peeking out so as not to distract from the focal image.
The texture on these burlap flowers is amazing! I filled in a small arrangement here with some black burlap string to help fill in the space.
Another little arrangement for the top corner here with coordinating silk ribbon.
From this angle you can see them embossing a bit better. I used a flat black for the spider web and a clear gloss on the die cut frame. I utilized a white doily to break of the focal images from the background which were all in a similar color tone and was looking a bit washed out.
A few embellies like the metal clip and buttons really wraps this card up and balances the large flowers.
Hi Petaloo friends, Maggi here to share paper dolls with you today! This month at Petaloo, we're featuring projects that you can do with the kids and grandkids. You know those days when the kids are saying I'm bored, there's nothing to do? That's the time to reach for these projects!
Now I always loved paper dolls when I was a child so I thought it would be fun to make dolls today! I've used a couple of Julie Nutting doll stamps to make my paper dolls but if you don't have any doll stamps, you could have the kids cut out pictures from old magazines.
First up is my mermaid tag that I made with Graphic 45's Voyage Beneath the Sea collection. I like to use large tags so that I have lots of room for embellishing. This tag is actually a Graphic 45 packaging tag that I've recycled and it measures about 4" x 8 3/4". First I covered the tag with some design paper and then painted on a little white gesso to tone it down a bit and give it an underwater look.
To make my mermaid, I stamped her on cream cardstock and cut that out. Then I stamped her onto different pieces of design paper and pieced her together..
I love these Petaloo Botanica Mixed Blooms in blue/green . I layered them over some Creative Embellishments sea grass and Petaloo Teal Spring Berry Picks to create an underwater scene. These blooms are perfect to complete my underwater look.
Now add a fun G45 chipboard tag with a great quote on it to finish it off. Add a bow at the top and presto! You've got a great tag to share. I know the kids will have fun making paper doll tags. Give the kids some magazines, paper scraps, scissors and glue and let their imaginations go wild.
Next up, a pretty miss, fashionably dressed for summer in an outfit made from Graphic 45's Ladie's Diary DCE. This tag has plenty of popped up layers. That's a fun technique that you can show the kids, just give them some cardboard to use, it's so much cheaper than using foam tape. Glue the cardboard to the back of your layer being sure to cut it small enough so that it doesn't show, and start layering it up!
Along with the Petaloo flowers. I added a pretty beige Petaloo Fancy Trim detail at the bottom. I bet you have some bits and pieces of ribbons and trims laying around, so give those to the kids too and I bet you'll be surprised at what they come up with. I love seeing what children create because their minds haven't been inhibited by "what you're supposed to do." Their creativity really amazes me.
To add some fun dimension, I popped up part of her dress. This tag really has dimension, There's the base tag, then a popped up oval frame, a smaller oval frame also popped up, then the doll is popped up with a flirty pop up of her dress.
Here's a pretty little cluster of a tag, a sticker and Petaloo flowers.
The perfect finishing touch for my projects is always flowers and I've used some of my favorites on this tag, new Petaloo Darjeelings, an anemone and roses.
Hello, Friends! Are you getting ready to go back to school? Already back in school? Either way, I have a super fun Back to School Ensemble to share with you today using fabulous Petaloo flowers and Graphic 45's ABC Primer Classic Edition.
This trio of vintage goodness includes a card, a mini album and a fun cork board to help you keep track of all those important dates.
I picked up this cork board some time ago at a yard sale. No one wanted it because it was sooooo ugly! It's amazing how a coat of black chalkboard paint, some fun papers and gorgeous Red Petaloo blooms can transform a cast off, isn't it? I doubled the thickness of the cork panels so that the cute little push pins would stay in. These Chantilly Petaloo Blossoms in Burgundy and Red match the ABC Primer papers so well. And I love the touch of vintage goodness that the Velvet Hydrangeas add, don't you? And do you spy that sweet little Darjeeling mini butterfly? Here are some close up shots so you can catch all the details.
Does your school have a teacher appreciation day? If so, why not make your child's teacher a pretty card as a way to break the ice?
I love to make easel cards because they display nicely on a desk.
Easel cards are simple to make. Build your card base to whatever size you choose. This one measures 4.25" x 5.5". Score the card front half way up; for this card, that would be at 2.75". Then crease along the score line, folding the bottom of the card front in toward the interior of the card base. Cut a second piece of cardstock to match the size of your card front. For this card, you would want it to measure 4.25" wide by 5.5" tall. Build your card design on this base, and then glue it to the bottom half of your scored and folded base. Adding a stopper on the interior of the card means that the card can stand on it's own.
Since I already had all my papers scattered all over the place, I decided to make a matching mini album. This is my own design, and it uses just 2 sheets of 8.5x11 cardstock. Although it only measures 4.25" x 6.25", it's loaded with pockets, pull outs, fold outs and even has a waterfall folio inside. It's the perfect spot to save photos from the upcoming school year.
Once again, I love the way these Petaloo flowers complement the papers.
Would you like to take a peek inside?
I created a short video tour of the album in case you want to see all the details.
Thanks so much for joining me here today! I hope you all have the best school year ever! Cherish the moments, write stuff down, take lots of pictures because the years fly by so fast!
Hey there Paper Peeps! Ginny here to share an oh so sweet and charming house tag I created with a vintagy back to school theme. I pulled out the Graphic 45 papers which by the way are a perfect partner for the Petaloo flowers and layered them up with some ribbon trims and fun embellishments.
I started with my house tag base and added the papers mixed in with some painted chipboard and fussy cut images.
These flowers are just scrumptious!!! And the reds and blues coordinate perfectly with the patterned papers : )
Ribbon trim and twine clipped with a tiny tag are joined by pom pom trim, buttons and a number plate on the rooftop.
I've added spacers between the layers for added dimension and a pretty lacy looking laser cut doily.
Hey folks! Summer is just a rolling along and September is almost here. This month here at the Petaloo blog we are coming up with fun "back to school projects". Of course when I think back to school....I think "old school"....like vintage old school. Love me some vintage and any chance to create using vintage items!
Petaloo blooms mix so well with true vintage items. I had this collection of old rulers I had been hoarding and decided to put some to good use.
Acrylic Paint Stencils Chipboard Ribbon and Twine Stickles PETALOO BLOOMS!
I cut (3) 4 x 6 cards from a sheet of cardstock. Next, we applied torn dictionary paper to the card faces with Multi Medium Matte (that way if the kids get it everywhere it won't show when it's dry!!)
After creating quarter size puddles of paint on the craft mat, we applied the paint with a makeup sponge through our stencils creating a beautiful tie-dye effect.
We painted various pieces of chipboard with our paint and added our PETALOO BLOOMS!
Close ups of our cards.....
Let kids SPARINGLY apply watered down paint to moistened PETALOO BLOOMS for a tie dye effect.
BONUS: have the kids WRITE end of the summeR notes to FRIENDS, FAMILY and TEACHERS! (what is becoming a long lost art!)
Hello, Friends! Is it really August already? Seems like we just got our flip flops out of the closet and now it's time to buy new backpacks! Sometimes it's hard to get the kids revved up and ready to head back to class. It's nice to ease them back into classroom mode with a little creative endeavor. This Back to School Desk Set is a project that is kid friendly and earth friendly because it uses upcycled tin cans. You can let the kids get in on the creating, and who knows...they might even get excited about going back to school!
The cheerful bold colors of Graphic 45's World's Fair collection is filled with inspirational sentiments that work perfectly for a back to school theme. I repurposed two black bean cans and a small tea tin by covering them with patterned papers from the collection.
I added ribbon or sticker borders along with loads of cheery Petaloo blossoms. Isn't it fun?
I used Matte Multi Medium to decoupage this ephemera card to the front of my pencil tin. The sentiment reads "Creativity is Intelligence Having Fun." It's just the inspiration needed to get started on a report or term paper.
Each side of the image is framed by gorgeous Petaloo blooms. The Black Burlap Blossoms, Yellow Dahlias, and Antique Gold Mixed Blossoms are a match made in heaven for the World's Fair papers.
Tiny black buttons make everything POP!
This tiny tea tin holds paperclips. It' had a black base to begin with, so I just wrapped it with designer papers, and topped it with a blue bow and a Black Mixed Textured Blossom. Quick and easy!
I've loaded this cute tin up with all my shaped scissors, but you could put pens or markers or assorted desk tools in here as well. This sentiment reads, "Logic will get you from A to Z, but Imagination will get you everywhere."
Here's a neat way to alter your Petaloo Dahlias. I gently heated the bottom two layers on each flower, then separated them from the top. Then I mixed and matched top and bottom layers to create these pretty custom blooms. The edges were lightly inked with Vintage Photo Distress to give them an antique look.
This burlap butterfly is part of the Burlap Blossoms pack. It offers a great contrast to the soft yellow flowers. These little ribbon pennants are topped with the smallest burlap blossoms in the pack. So cute!
So break out some tins from the recycle bin, let the kids choose some colorful, fun papers along with their favorite Petaloo blossoms. Give them a budget to purchase supplies and spend some time creating a little back to school project. Throw in some cookies and milk, and you're the hero of the day!
