Bees and Honey Springtime Greeting Card with Kathy

Hello, Friends!  Spring is such an exciting season.  Everything is just bursting with life!  As I was out walking the other day, I noticed all the bees buzzing in the flowerbeds and it inspired me to make this vintage style Like Bees to Honey Springtime Greeting Card.

 

I have a soft spot in my heart for yellow flowers, so I decorated my card with two gorgeous yellow Botanica Blooms, one "sugared" one plain.  To deepen the color tone, I spritzed each blossom lightly with Sunflower Sparkle Perfect Pearls Mist.

The background papers for this happy card are taken from Graphic 45's Nature Sketchbook 8x8 pad. The vintage bee image came in my "It's the Bee's Knees" Creativity Kit from Polly's Paper Studio.  I layered everything up, then added a really fun brass bee charm to give it a real vintage vibe.

To balance out the composition, I added a sweet canvas sunflower to my bow cluster.  This was also spritzed with Sunflower Sparkle Mist.

 

More paper pretties adorn the inside of this fun, interactive card.

The top pocket is made by scoring and folding a G45 Nature Sketchbook ephemera card.  I wrapped this with ribbon and tied a simple square knot to hold everything together.  Then I tucked a sunshine yellow herbal tea bag into the pocket.

The large pocket on the bottom is decorated with one of the tag/pocket combos from Nature Sketchbook.  I filled it with cute bee ephemera.  Then I decorated a G45 Staples tag with more pretty paper and a bee tag.   And what kind of bee card would fail to include a little honey?  So I added this honey stick to the pocket.  This combination of tag, tea bag and honey stick transform this card into a gift!

Hi there Petaloo peeps, Maggi here and I am so excited that the Petaloo team is blog hoppin' with Graphic 45 and Xyron this week.  We've had the beautiful St Nicholas collection from Graphic 45 and some wonderful sticky products from Xyron to work with!

My sweet poodle Nika needed a Christmas stocking so I made this one for her!  I used Graphic45's new Christmas collection, St Nicholas, to cut out the cuff and toe pieces for the stocking and added a tag & banner from the collection at the cuff and heel. 

 

Xyron sent us some great sticker makers and tape runners to use that are the perfect solution for those tiny parts that you need to adhere.  I fussy cut tiny holly clusters and a a Santa hat and ran them through the 1 1/2" sticker maker and adhered to my diecut poodle.  Loved it!  I didn't get glue all over everything like I usually do and it stayed stuck.  Now that's the perfect adhesive for me.

 

I made my cuff by first cutting a piece of St Nicholas plaid for the cuff and toe.  Then I added a Santa tag and banners from the Graphic 45 St Nicholas collection.  The letters actually came from another G45 collection, Raining Cats and Dogs but over those letters I added some banners from the St Nicholas collection.  I used my Xyron sticker maker to turn those banners into little stickers too. Petaloo crocheted lace was perfect to accentuate the cuff before adding my floral cluster.  Ohhh I totally love Petaloo's pinecone & berry picks that I tucked under those beautiful burlap poinsettias and briar roses.

That sweet poodle is a diecut. I used Ranger Antiquities Weathered White embossing powder to make the curly look on the poodles body. That is a great product when you want a grainy textured look.

Good morning!

 

I am Laura Gilhuly and I live in beautiful Southwestern Ontario , Canada. I am a stay at home mom to 2 fantastic and fun loving young men - Cody is 15 and Ty is 14.

I am happily married for 16 years to my best friend and awesome husband, Jon. He is hardworking, ambitious, determined and loving...I am creative, enthusiastic, emotional and passionate - together we make a great team!  We own our own transport truck and he is a long haul driver so during the week, It is me and our boys and my scrappy stuff!!!   I really enjoy trying new things and creating projects!  I create mostly 12x12 layouts but I do really enjoy creating off the page projects, cards and canvases...anything were I can ink and paint and play and get my hands messy!

 

  My family is the focus of my life, my inspiration, and my motivation to scrapbook. 

I am so excited to be guest designing for Petaloo!

Their flowers are so awesome and the ones I received in my guest package were the DIY paintables!  They are so much fun to work with and will always coordinate with your project!

 

 

The first project I worked on is a 7gyspies solo shadowbox I received in my package.

I was so excited to start on it I forgot to take a photo of it! This is how it looked before but mine was brown!

 

The first step I did was cover it roughly with a paint that was sand color and add some modeling paste using a stencil

 

 

I also added some crackle paste - love that stuff!

Then I decided to add to colors I wanted by using the wonderful

Tattered Angels Denim Blue Glimmer Mist that was also in the package and another of my favorite products the Colourcraft Brusho Colours in burnt sienna.

 

 

Next was the fun stuff - I got to color the awesome flowers! 

I used the DIY- Daisy Layers  Burlap-Canvas in Ivory, DIY-Mixed Textured Layers also in Ivory, DIY- Burlap Blossoms in Ivory,
DIY- Baby’s Breath Pick in White, DIY- Queen Annes Pick in Whit, and the DIY - Dogwood Canvas in white.  I used teh same products to color the flowers that I did the tray!

 

 

 

After I dried the flowers I used some matte gel to adhere some crushed glitter glass and prills to the tips of some of the flowers!

 

 

I added some shells, crushed glitter glass, and Prills and a piece of burlap behind the photo of my husband and our boys, that was part of my package to the shelves of the tray.

 

 

 I really love the beachy, shabby chic feel to this!

 

I wanted my next project to be bright and fun!

So I used this fun photo of Ty being buried in the sand!

 

I started by layering the wonderful Graphic 45 Voyage Beneath the Sea papers!

 

 

Then I started to color the wonderful flowers!  For this layout I used the same flowers as on my tray and also the DIY- Burlap Medium Sunflower in Ivory.

 

To color the yellow ones I dabbed the Tim Holtz Squeezed Lemonade Distress ink on my craft mat, then spritzed with water!

I added some  Heidi Swapp Mustard Color shine spray then dragged the flowers through them to achieve a more dimensional look.

 

 

 

For the bluish ones I used the Colourcraft Brusho Crystal Colors in Turquoise.  I spritzed them with water, added the color crystals, then spritzed them with water again.

 

 

I dried all the flowers, and added some more prills and crushed glitter glass.

I used...

I also colored

with the Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist.

I cut the colored 12 x 12 paper in half
I cut (7) triangles from the halves.

I then cut a slightly larger triangles out of
Canvas Corp Brands ~ Ivory Burlap.
For interest I added some
vintage lace.

I adhered the layers together. 
Then, I adhered a length of vintage Ric Rac
over top of the banner shapes.
When dry, I adhered
Canvas Corp Brand ~ White Ties & Tags
to the Rick Rac.
Then I layered on a
Petaloo Paintables ~ Daisy Layers ~ Ivory
at loopy jute bow
a stapled
Petaloo Paintables ~ Dogwood ~ White leaf
and a colored
Petaloo Paintables ~ Dogwood ~ White
(the larger ones) 

I had some of the left~over colored paper
so I created little "banners" for my cake.

I hot glued extra long toothpicks 
to my colored banner pieces.

How cute is that??

Liberty Village with DIY Flowers & Canvas Corp

Hey there Peeps! Ginny here dropping in to share a very festive and fun holiday décor creation using the fabulous DIY Flowers and Canvas Corp patterned papers.  I love to make projects in red, white, and blue since they can be displayed for all the summer holidays!!!

I'm calling this Liberty Village. A row of tiny houses all decked out in patriotic colors and fun trims.  It'll be a great addition to my seasonal décor. My hubby is born on the 4th of July so we really go all in for this great holiday! And we get cake...so that's a win win : )

These little houses are only about 3 inches square ( before the roof.)  I was able to pack a lot of detail in a small space.

All lined up they are the perfect size for a shelf. From this angle you can see how the tiny chimneys fit perfectly on the roof peak. I had to do math shudder.

For this center house I added a few glittery stars on spingy wires nestled into the kraft packaging in the chimney. To finish the tops of the chimneys I added a small length of white lace wrapped around and stapled in place with a tiny staple. Coordinating lace on the bottom of the house is layered over burlap trim.

This roof peak is all decked out with the DIY Flowers, Red Jeweled Flowers,  glittery branches and ribbon trim.  I sprayed the DIY Flowers with Fireworks Spray to match the chevron stripe in the paper. Tinsel trim on the underside of the roof makes it extra festive!

Surprise!!! The roofs come off.  From this angle you can see I've tucked in another star clipped in with an itty bitty red clothespin.

Simply untie the red cord and the little house opens right up to reveal a vintagy image and 3 picture mats for displaying favorite summer pictures.

I just love how the shades of red, white, and blue are all vintagy and not super bright.

Each little house has a different image....but the same picture mats.

It will be fun to fill up these little houses with our pictures and memories. And we can enjoy them year after year when we decorate for the holiday.

Summer layouts and DIY flowers

Maggi here to share two summer layouts with you today, both using Petaloo's awesome DIY flowers. 

 

I used Graphic 45's Safari Adventures on this first layout to scrap photos I took at the Miami Zoo where it's always summer!  I had a blast dying my flowers to match the tropical imagery in this collection.  These flowers are so great because you can easily dye them using mists or other coloring agents.

 

I colored the salmon colored flowers by simply spraying them with my mist. To color the yellow largest flower, I first misted it with yellow and then I painted on a little red mist on the ends of the petals. Then I quickly blotted with a paper towel so that the color effect would be subtle.

 

For this flower, I gave it an all over misting with yellow, then I sprayed a little red mist on my craft mat and tipped my paintbrush in it, and painted the flower center and touched the flower tips.

 

 

I just touched these sweet little blooms with a hint of red while they were still damp from the yellow mist and blotted with a paper towel to keep the effect subtle.

First, a big thank you to Simple Stories for these bright summery papers that I used to create this family reunion layout!   I used the same technique on this layout to color the flowers. I love that so many of Petaloo's flower styles are available as DIY flowers and that picks are also available! 

 

 

I've used leaf picks in this floral cluster along with textured layers and canvas dogwoods.   All of these products absorb color so well.

Summer Layout

Hello everyone! It's Irene here and for today's post, I would like to share a unique summer layout. It's a floating layout which I've created using an acrylic base. To create this layout, I've used tons of canvas by Canvas Corp and tons of gorgeous DIY blossoms by Petaloo.

Here are some close-ups on this layout.

I've distressed the canvas using tons of paints and gesso.

Check out these gorgeous flowers. I've lightly misted them with some glimmer mist by Tattered Angels to add some colors to it.

Hello Petaloo Fans. Today I have a gift bag and little tag to share. I have used flowers from the Do It Yourself Textured Burlap and Canvas collection. These flowers are so much fun to alter and add to your projects!

 

 

I used some Shimmerz mists to alter the DIY flowers on this project…it is to easy, just mist to the color your choice! I love this big bow made from pieces of canvas from Canvas Corp, and some Petaloo Trims …then I just added the DIY flowers on top.

 

 

I used the same flowers on the cute little bag tag…Burlap Butterflies and Blossoms, and the Mixed Textured Layers. The layers are super fun too..you can build your own flowers and there are many sizes in the package.

Graduation milestones by Cherry Nelson

Hello Petaloo Peeps!  Cherry here with my first ever design team post.  It is all about the "Grads" this time of year.  Our family is no exception. My son just graduated as valedictorian of his class this past weekend.  A wonderful but bittersweet milestone. With his graduation party we kept with a classic black/white theme.  I just love this color combo and think it is perfect for graduation projects.  I decided to make a card using this simple but effective combination. 

I used Papers from Canvas Corps.  They complimented the burlap daisies perfectly. 

 

I love playing with all the layers you can create with these blooms.  Instead of putting a stamen or button in the middle I decided to use one of the burlap picks.  I love all the dimension it added.  The picks added such a classic touch to this card!

From here I added a hand stamped sentiment and some black scrunched seam binding.  Other than that, a key was tucked into the bloom as a symbolic touch.  "the key to your future".
