Wall Decor Inspired by Spring

Well hello there Paper Peeps! Ginny here to share some holiday décor that's not specifically Easter but inspired by Spring so it can be displayed and enjoyed all season long.

 

I created 4 while I had the supplies out. Each has a coordinating set of nest and postcard images so they are similar.....but just slightly different.

I started with a base of burlap adhered to sturdy chipboard then layered on all the paper pretties!

I love these flowers in shades of white and green. So perfect for spring.

There are more flowers tucked under the paper layers for added depth.  Chipboard painted in crisp white breaks up the busy paper patterns and adds texture.

 
I've added pretty coordinating ribbons, a wire hanger, wooden clothespin, seasonal brad, and washi tape to finish off these charming and just a little bit vintagy wall hangings.

Hello, Friends!  I'm back again today to share another Petaloo Pets project with you.  Yesterday I shared a shabby chic folio for your favorite pooch, but today it's all about CATS!  Once again, I've paired gorgeous Petaloo flowers with images and papers from Authentique's "Devoted" collection. 

I found this 7" x 6" book board binder album in the Closet of Shame while straightening up my stash.  I altered the cover by adding patterned papers and a canvas spine for extra texture.  The end result is this sweet little album that is just loaded with shabby chic touches. 

Every shabby chic project needs to be adorned with beautiful flowers.  I had such a good time dressing this album up with Petaloo mini wild roses, Forget-me-nots, and burlap blossoms.  I'll provide product links at the end of this post.

One really fun feature is this framed image inside a cluster of buttons.  The frame is actually a large button!  I just punched out a vintage image to fit the button interior, glued the image in place and then filled the button with Glossy Accents to create a unique vintage embellishment for the album.

The album came with a ring binder mechanism.  I created different sized/shaped pages to create a staggered effect. 

 

The pretty shabby chic frame was altered with paints and seed beads. I added a glass bead to the burlap butterfly body to make it pop in the layout.

I added this canvas spine with Scor-Tape to add texture and to amp up the shabby chic vibe.

Here's a peek inside the album.  Pockets were added to each cover for even more photo storage.  The staggered pages give the album a playful, whimsical feel. Because I find it hard to get a real sense of the flow of an album with still photos, I created a YouTube video tour for you.  In it, I share lots of tips and tricks for using scraps, creating custom embellishments and getting the most out of your papers.  I hope you enjoy!

Hello, Friends!  Are you enjoying the Petaloo Pets theme? I have a really fun little folio to share with you today.  It's fairly quick to pull together (a day or less) and is built in a style that lends itself to display in your home or office.  I used lots of pretty Petaloo posies along with Authentique's "Devoted" paper collection to make this shabby chic All You Need is Love...and a Dog folio.

The folio is made from  a 5" x 7" card base with a 1/4" spine.  This is an easy adaptation.  When you are building your card base, score at both 7" and 7 1/4".  Now you have a dimensional base that you can fill with all kinds of little photo mounts and pull outs. 

The Authentique papers have a wonderful vintage/shabby chic feel to them.  I emphasized this by adding Petaloo Spice Anemones, Blue Forget me Nots, and Ivory Textured blossoms.  After layering up the images and patterns on the cover, I spattered them with a little diluted black paint to amp up the shabby/vintage vibe.

Christmas Trophy Shadow Box Tags with Petaloo and Authentique

Hey there Peeps! Ginny here to share a pair of tags that I created with the gorgeous blooms from Petaloo and vintagy papers from Authentique.
I started with a few similar elements like the little paper mache  heart shadow boxes and painted trophies and added different but coordinating patterned papers, flowers and holiday embellies to 2 tags with loads of holiday style.

Glad Tidings Tag....

For this tag I'm using a sturdy base with burlap and layering on all the details.

The paper mache heart box is just the perfect size to tuck in the painted trophy....that was just dumb luck....not planning...but I'll take it.

I've filled the trophy with parts of the Christmas pick and poinsettia and a tiny clip holding the sentiment banner.  The gorgeous Petaloo flowers are arranged to feature the burlap bloom.....which is my personal fav holiday flower.

I am so in love with the variety of textures from this flower selection.  I've included a little blingy trim for sparkle and while the adhesive was wet I sprinkled on a bit of clear glitter for a faux-snow effect.

Jingle bells and burlap ribbon are the finishing touches for this holiday home décor tag.

Jolly Trophy Shadow Box Tag...

I was able to create this tag to be similar but different just by changing the papers and embellies.

This time I've crafted a tiny banner from the sticker sheet and added it over the flowers and trophy...and it is for sure jolly!

Tiny glitter foam balls take  the place of the Christmas pick to fill the trophy. There's an itty bitty vintagy image tucked in behind for depth.

More of the tinsel trim in the back of the box but this time in silver over charming and country inspired plaid patterned paper.

Blingy trim looks so festive over the tiny reindeer patterns and dresses this tag up so much you could hang it right on your Christmas tree and enjoy it as part of your favorite seasonal holiday décor.

Christmas Gift Tags by Lynne

 

Back by popular demand ... Holiday GIFT TAGS is one of our most popular projects by our friend and former DT member Lynne Forsythe ...

Tis the season of all the trimmings....
and what better way to trim a gift bag
then with a "Bag Tag"
I love to use a simple Kraft paper bag
with a little tissue paper,
helps the "Bag Tag" POP!

The base of each tag is one
G45's ~ Large Tag Album ~ Ivory. 
I traced the "tag" onto 2 different
G45 papers from the A Christmas Carol Collection.

For this tag I used Bah Humbug,
using both sides of the paper.

I applied Multi Medium to the face of this "tag"
misted CCB ~ Tissuestock with water
and squinched it up on the tag
tearing it in spots.
I applied a layer Perfect Paints ~ Bright Gold
mixed with Perfect Glaze Medium
wiping off at will.

I finished off my first tag with Lots of
Petaloo Sugared Botanica Blooms
and Vintage Velvet Dogwoods
Velvet Hydrangeas.

....now onto my next "bag tag"!

For my second "Bag Tag", I used
G45's ~ Seasonal Sentiments and
Yuletide Greetings. 

I inked around the edges of the tags,
I then applied BoBunny Gold Glitter Paste
through TCW Vineyard stencil around the edges.

For my flower cluster I used 
Petaloo's Sugared Bontanica Blooms
along with a Sugared Pick.

I tucked in Petaloo's Velvet Hydrangeas
along with the stapled Vintage Velvet Leaves
from the Dogwood package.

I added one of the
G45's Christmas Carol Chipboard
to finish off the tag!

Finally to "Bag Tag" #3!

This was actually the first "Bag Tag" I created!
I began by only cutting out one new tag from
G45's Christmas Carol ~ Seasonal Sentiments.
I chose to paint the G45's Large Tag ~ Ivory
with Perfect Paints ~ Rainstorm.

I applied Perfect Paints Dried Cranberry through
TCW ~ Bee on Time stencil.
Then I created in a concoction of 
Perfect Paints ~ Bright Gold and
Perfect Glaze Medium....Loving the look!

I used a mixture of
Petaloo's Sugared Botanica Blooms,
Minis and Pick, 
along with Vintage Velvet Dogwoods.

The Petaloo Blooms look so BEAUTIFUL when 
matched with G45's A Christmas Carol papers!

I can't wait to decorate my gift bags with 
these "Bag Tags" and to 
see the eyes of the receivers!

Hi there Petaloo peeps, Maggi here and I am so excited that the Petaloo team is blog hoppin' with Graphic 45 and Xyron this week.  We've had the beautiful St Nicholas collection from Graphic 45 and some wonderful sticky products from Xyron to work with!

My sweet poodle Nika needed a Christmas stocking so I made this one for her!  I used Graphic45's new Christmas collection, St Nicholas, to cut out the cuff and toe pieces for the stocking and added a tag & banner from the collection at the cuff and heel. 

 

Xyron sent us some great sticker makers and tape runners to use that are the perfect solution for those tiny parts that you need to adhere.  I fussy cut tiny holly clusters and a a Santa hat and ran them through the 1 1/2" sticker maker and adhered to my diecut poodle.  Loved it!  I didn't get glue all over everything like I usually do and it stayed stuck.  Now that's the perfect adhesive for me.

 

I made my cuff by first cutting a piece of St Nicholas plaid for the cuff and toe.  Then I added a Santa tag and banners from the Graphic 45 St Nicholas collection.  The letters actually came from another G45 collection, Raining Cats and Dogs but over those letters I added some banners from the St Nicholas collection.  I used my Xyron sticker maker to turn those banners into little stickers too. Petaloo crocheted lace was perfect to accentuate the cuff before adding my floral cluster.  Ohhh I totally love Petaloo's pinecone & berry picks that I tucked under those beautiful burlap poinsettias and briar roses.

That sweet poodle is a diecut. I used Ranger Antiquities Weathered White embossing powder to make the curly look on the poodles body. That is a great product when you want a grainy textured look.

DIY Sculpted Canvas and Matching Card

Hello.  Jennifer Snyder here to share more autumn goodness using the beautiful colors of the season.  Today, I am sharing a canvas/sculpture and matching card crafted using Petaloo flowers, FloraCraft Foam Balls  and other assorted products from FloraCraft in conjunction with Authentique's Harvest paper collection.   

My inspiration for both projects started with the Authentique Harvest paper with it's warm orange, browns and festive theme.  The card came first.  I picked an adorable 3"x4" image from the journal card sheet called "Harvest One".  

 

The adorable pilgrim boy is pushing a cart full of pumpkins, squash and produce from the field.  I selected the Petaloo flowers to accentuate the colors of his abundant harvest.      

 

Here are the close ups of the gorgeous Petaloo floral cluster.  

The green center flower, Petaloo Botanica Mini-Pistachio , makes me smile because I think it looks like cauliflower in the cluster.  How perfect!

 

My makeshift cauliflower is surrounded by Petaloo Sugar  Mini Mocha flowers and dotted with some older Petaloo berry sprays from my stash in burgundy.   The finishing touches include a rich burgundy ribbon and some paper punched pine sprigs.  

 

  

 

After I created the card, I did some thinking and imagined how fun it would be to make those wonderful fruits come to life so I set out to make it happen.  That's how the canvas came about.   If you keep scrolling down, I provide a mini-tutorial as to how I created the assorted produce.  

 

 The canvas started with FloraCraft's  foam balls.  This package was great because there were various sized balls to help make my vision possible.  The pumpkin was created with the 4inch foam ball while the apple and pear were created using the 2.5inch foam balls.  

  

Step 1.  Cut foam ball in half so that it can fit nicely in a reverse canvas setting.  

Step 2. Cut a piece of muslin cotton to wrap and cover the foam.  I added color to the muslin by using a combination of mediums to color the fabric - some mists and inks.  A pumpkin has a variety of colors - yellow, brown, green, orange - so I used a variety of colors.   

 

Notice in the photo below that the fabric is not totally colored. I left a bit of white space in the fabric to provide a bright highlight on the finished piece.  Do not worry that the colors are not blended nice and softly at this point.    

  

Step 3. I saturated the muslin cotton with a sculpture medium, then draped the fabric over the foam ball, smoothing till I was happy.  

 

There are many mediums that will work well including the old fashioned and inexpensive white school glue thinned with water. 

 

Tip: Once you add a sculpting medium to the fabric, the colors will all blend together and make your project look more unified and nicer.  Trust me!

 

Step 4.  This is what the back of my pumpkin looks like.  A mess!  But no need to stress over this because no one will see it.  I did make sure to twist some fabric into a stem.  

 Step 5. The glorious thing about foam is that it can be shaped and sculpted.  I chose to sculpt and shape after the fabric was added and had dried.  I just thought the pumpkin ridges would be more apparent if added after the foam was covered.  

 

I used a wooden skewer to make the ridges by rolling the skewer over the foam and rocking it back and forth till the ridge was satisfactory.    It worked quite nicely.  I also was able to add more color after the fabric was on the foam.  

 Step 6. I added thin jute to the pumpkin and tied it in the back.  I believe this helped accentuate the ridges.  

Step 7.  I have a few finishing touches. I wrapped the stem with brown floral tape and I added some tendrils to the pumpkin's stem created using FloraCraft Green Stem Wire.  I twisted the stem wire around a wood skewer - which is a great tool for making tendrils.   

 Additional tips for making the pear and the apple:  I made the pear and apple the same way - using muslin covered FloraCraft foam balls.  Once covered, I sculpted the shape of the pear and apple by rolling the covered foam on the edge of a table to help mold the foam till I was satisfied.    The stems of the apple and the pear were created using the end of the wood skewer.  

 

Step 8.  Moving on to the canvas...

This is an 8x8 canvas.  I turned it around and used the back as a sort of shadow box. 

I cut a piece of Authentique Harvest paper  and inserted it into the background of the canvas.  I added ink to the frame of the canvas to blend the project and provide a finished, cohesive look.  

 

I stapled  FloraCraft Burlap Garland to the wood frame of the canvas so that the sculpted fruits could rest nicely in the burlap.  

And here are a few more close ups of the finished canvas to show the gorgeous Petaloo floral accents.  This photo shows  the beautiful reds and greens of the Petaloo Briar Rose Canvas Holiday Mix  flowers (RS5008-502/4).  

 

This shows the beautiful image from the Authentique Harvest paper  topped with a bow and Petaloo's Botanica Mini-Pistachio flowers.

This photo shows how sweet the Petaloo Botanica Mini-Gold/Sienna flower looks here to resemble the cauliflower.

Happy Thanksgiving Banner and Card with Authentique Harvest Collection

Hello Friends!  It's Kathy here with a little Thanksgiving home decor project to share with you today.  It's my very favorite holiday, and I am excited to decorate, bake and prepare for a relaxing day spent with our great big noisy family.  We eat, we play games, we go for a walk...and repeat!  LOL

This long banner uses a lovely mix of Authentique Harvest papers and gorgeous Petaloo flowers in an array of fall colors.

 

I turned a chipboard frame into a fall wreath by painting it with copper crackle paste and espresso color wash spray.  Then I layered these richly hued Mocha Sugared Blossoms, Cream and Green Hydrangea and beautifully textured Fall Mix Burlap leaves around the edges.

I have been picking up acorns on my walks, and they found a new home nestled into this arrangement with mini pumpkins and glitzy ribbon.

 

While I had all the pretty flowers and papers out on my workspace, I decided to make a Thanksgiving card, too.

I kept the design here very simple, so that the spotlight would be on the focal image. I didn't want anything to distract from its beauty.

 

The cream and brown of this stunning Darjeeling Anemone blossom worked perfectly with my plaid ribbon.  I added two mini vintage velvet blossoms to finish out the flower cluster.

The inside of the card holds one of my signature pockets, stuffed with lots of goodies.  A mini chocolate, a honey stick and a lovely herbal tea bag are accompanied by an image from the collection and a vintage style postcard.  The gift card pocket has a custom notecard where you can write your personal Thankgiving greetings.

 

This would make a nice hostess gift, don't you think?

Giving Thanks with Maggi!

I have to stop and give thanks for all the good people and things that fill my life.  I really need to take the time to count my blessings more often; I think this wall plaque will serve as a reminder!

I used Authentique's Harvest papers along with a plethora of Petaloo blooms.  I can never have too many flowers; after all, I am a flower child of the 60's, LOL LOL!!  So....I started my project by first applying Prima texture paste over a cork cover plate charger.  When that dried, the plate had a crackled effect.  Then I selected several Lindy's Starburst mists in autumn colors and misted the plate.

Next I created a banner with stickers from the collection.  To give those stickers more pizzazz, I mounted them on slightly larger banners that I cut out.  Then I nestled the banner in a bed of Petaloo flowers and burlap flall leaves.

 

 

Here you can see the crackled effect over the cork, love how that looks!  For fall color, I mixed in several different styles of Petaloo blooms (see my product list of supplies at the end) along with an older Petaloo berry branch and berries from the leaf berry clusters.  Then I finished it off with a bright bow.

Celebrating Fall with Petaloo and Authentique

Hey there Paper Peeps! Today I am celebrating one of my favorite times of year. Which of course is Fall. In Michigan we enjoy glorious foliage and cool crisp air.  Also everything is pumpkin spice so that's a win win.  I've created a tag and card using the gorgeous blooms from Petaloo and just perfect seasonal patterned papers from Authentique.  I'm also incorporating some yummy mixed media supplies to alter metals and chipboard pieces to coordinate with warm and rich patterns of the papers.

 The burlap from the Daisy Layers adds a wonderful textural element and creates a nice base layer for the more dimensional flowers.

To balance the arrangement I added a few more of the layers to the top just tucked under the chipboard frame.

The larger Blooms are the centerpiece for this arrangement with a few Spring Berries , twine and altered die cut shapes.

This tag would make a lovely home décor element displayed on a mantle or shelf with a few pinecones and pumpkins. 

I've also created a card......

I've layered the papers here with the sweetest image of a vintage girl harvesting wheat.  This was the inspiration to choose the flowers to coordinate with the rich patterns and warm colors.

The key to this arrangement was mixing textures, styles, and trims.

More flowers here mixed with metal embellishments and fussy cut images that have been accented with mixed media supplies.

I really had such a lovely time creating this set of Fall projects tucked away in my shop with classic radio programs and little space heater.
