Back-to-School Planner

My teenaged daughter loves getting a date calendar with each new school year.  We purchased one with a cute pattern on the front, but she always likes to pizazz up her school supplies!  This is what we came up with:

To begin, we started with a spiral bound planner, the DIY Cream Dahlias, chalk and some matching ribbon:

We tied pieces of knotted ribbons onto every third spiral.  Next, chalk and a chenille pom pom applicator were used to add color to the dahlias to match the planner cover.

With chalks, you can add various shades from a color family to achieve depth as desired.

Fabric glue was used to attach the flowers to the center of the knotted ribbons.

This project is so quick to put together!  It also makes a great back-to-school gift for a teacher or best friend!

Back to school: A Doll Tag for your Favorite Teacher by Bibiana

 

Hello Dear Petaloo friends:

Here Bibiana...

I have a Tag made with "Petaloo" Flowers...

 

This tag is perfect for back to school ...you can offered it to your favorite teacher and I am sure she will love it :)...

 

I first stamp the doll, cut and color it with Copic markers...
then I used the "Paper Piecing Technique" on her dress
placed a die cut "the butterflies" on her waist and added some pearls...

on the right corner I put a wood bird cage with some pearls as well ... with a butterfly in burlap...

A branch of a "weeping willow" die is placed underneath the doll

 

as for the bottom I used the gorgeous melon/apricot color flowers from "Petaloo"...
I took several flowers form different collections and textures and made my floral arrangement
I have some burlap, cotton paper and the melon stems come in a very delicate paper like rice paper...
all this gives lots of dimension and textured to the card...
tucked underneath some paper leaves and a gold doily

Back To School with an Altered Clipboard

Hello Petaloo friends! It's Irene here and for today's back to school post, I've created an altered clipboard to share with you all. I've used some gorgeous DIY flowers by Petaloo and beautiful summer papers by Maja Design to alter this clipboard.

Here are some details on this clipboard.

 

For this project, I want to have flowers with tons of whites but still has a little hint of color to it. Therefore, to add a little color to the DIY flowers, I sprayed it with some paint from a distance.

Back to School Lunch Money Bucket with Petaloo

When I was a kid my parents always had a change dish that they would leave lunch money in for school. I decided to repurpose a little galvanized bucket that used to be home to a long dead houseplant to make my own version of the "change dish". I used Petaloos new Burlap Sunflowers, Burlap trims, and a hot glue gun to fancy it up.

I love the realistic fuzzy sunflower center detail- it make these flowers extra special

I used Graphic 45s Alpha Stockers and Die cut Alphabets for the words

In addition to the wide trim piece around the bucket I also covered the wire handle with more of Petaloos Burlap Trims- you get 4 trims to a pack

since the inside of my bucket was a little worse for the wear, I covered it in a little denim

To do the inside trim, I just measured the circumference of the bucket, and the depth- cut out a piece of fabric, ironed down a 1/4 inch hem, then hot glued just a touch down from the brim.

another tip for adding trim to a fluted base is to sew a little dart in on two sides- you can machine or hand stitch- its really a quick little detail that will make your bucket look great!

Petaloo's DIY ~ Burlap Medium Sunflower ~ Ivory
is a PERFECT for such an occasion.

 

I began by spritzing
the DIY Sunflower with water.
Then I placed a puddle of 
Perfect Paints on my Craft Mat
and diluted it with a bit of water.
I applied the color with a small round brush.

I created another shade of Gold by mixing
in a bit of Aged Copper to allow
for shading.

When dry, I used my hot glue gun
to adhere a pin back 
and a few loopy bows.

I pined the brooch to the
card I made using
Authentique's ~ Faith 
Card Making Stack.

Back to School ~ Tammy

Hi all! Its that time of the year for the kiddos to start back to school! Some are ready for the new school year to begin and some wish that summer would just last forever. With the thought of learning I have a easy tute for ya today! All about coloring those delish Petaloo DIY flowers!! So put on your scrappy clothes and lets play with some paint! :)

Supplies Needed:

Paint- I used 13 Arts and Silks But you can use whatever you like!

DIY flowers- I used for the tute Burlap Blossoms

Water mister

Heat gun

Lets get started!

First I started with some watered down paint. Now you don't want it too runny(like water) but not to dry. Just enough to coat with control. Like the picture shown.

Now start from the center of the flower and paint out toward the edges. Don't go all the way to the edge.

Now lets add in some water so the paint bleeds out all the way to the edges..

Add in some more paint to deepen the color if desired..

Dry really good then add in a bit of a deeper tone. For this part I used some Silks.. I didn't cover the whole flower just innermost of the petals..

 

All done! You can choose to paint the little centers if you wish. On my project that is how I colored each flower. Easy breezy and fun too! :) 

I created a little canvas that you could give to the teacher. Hey nothing wrong with a little gift to get the new year off right!

I chose to use all the primary colors. Those are the ones that come to mind for me when I think of school. Here is a close up of those beautiful blooms.. Note the green ones was already colored for me. :) Nothing wrong with pre colored blooms either!!

Hello...it's Back To School!

It's BACK TO SCHOOL again! The lazy day of summer is officially gone so it's time for longer days and shorter nights.  Back to packing brown paper lunches, homework time and all the fun things that lay ahead.

I love the primary colors so BACK to SCHOOL is a perfect theme for using these fun flowers from Petaloo.  Dress up any card just with a few clusters and your done!

Just wanted to say Thank you to Cheryl and Jeff of Petaloo and the Design Team girls for such a wonderful 4 years.  It's been a pleasure being part of a team that encourages and makes you a better designer from when you first start. 

My best wishes to you all and thank you to all the Petaloo fans who support this wonderful industry.  Without your support, the creative people behind all this would cease to exist.  Being creative is a huge part of life and with companies like Petaloo, the art would have never come to what it is today.

Back to School Fridge Magnets

My kiddo is going back to school which means that once again my fridge will become the household bulleten board. It's where every scrap of work with a good grade will be displayed. It's also where important scraps of paper will be lost admid the jumble.

So I've decided that if my fridge will become a jumble (there's no two ways about it...) that it's going to be a pretty jumble!

I've created a set of pretty magnets using Petaloo flowers, Graphic 45 tags and stickers from their Couture collection.

I've glued two strong 'button' magnets on the back of each piece so that there's no sliding about.

It's a simple project but it sure will be nice for we mom's to have something elegant to look at while sorting through permission forms and fundraising sheets :)

Back To School Inspiring Book

Hi Petaloo fans! As part of the "Back To School" projects week, I'm sharing with you all a little book which I've created for my daughter, Chloe. This is a little encouragement book to cheer her up a bit throughout the back to school week.

Some kids will be reluctant to go back to school or being a little down after a long vacation break. At this time, it will be great for them to get some encouragement words. I always love to create some simple bookmarks or mini books with quotes of encouragement for them.

For this mini book, I've used some gorgeous cardstocks by Core'dinations and decorated it with some beautiful Petaloo Botanica blooms.

Welcome back card

Hi! Helena here to share a Welcome Back to the teacher card. Teachers are fantastic, and a card is a great way to show them some appreciation!

I just love the sweet papers from Maja Design, and the amazing crocheted flowers from Petaloo matches the papers just perfect! The crocheted flowers are from the Chantilly collection - Velvet and Lace flowers - and I have used one pink and one buttercream. I have also added some Petaloo trim (shades of beige) and two brads (shades of green).

Looking at this card makes me happy, and I hope the teacher who receives it will be happy too!
