Hi everyone! Lynne here, and today I have the cutest little butterfly pincushion project for you!! This would make an ideal gift for Moms like me, who are always losing their pincushions! So I came up with a solution to make it stand out on my crafty table.
First, I removed the little 'strawberry', then I took a doily and placed it over the top of the pincushion. I then wrapped it around so that I could glue it on the underside. Next, I ran some embroidery floss around the whole thing, I added a small lace 'flower' and a decorative pin to the center top.
The Flourish Butterfly from Creative Embellishments, was painted with three colors of metallic paint. He needed a bit of stabilizing, to stay upright, so I gave him a jute cord tail, which runs the length of his body.
The base, is a wood spool that had twine wrapped around it. I removed the twine and painted it white. On the top of the spool, I added a circle of burlap, and glued some eyelet lace to make a 'nest' for the pincushion to rest on. I then wrapped the core of the spool with a length of lace covered burlap. It has a velcro closing, so that you can add some extra needles along the inside of the ribbon.
Since the original color of the pincushion is pink, I ran with pink flowers.......Dahlias and Petites from the Darjeeling Collection. And I had to add a few Mini Butterflies in cream. The little strawberry got a makeover too, and then I glued it to the top of the spool, just under the flowers. Oh, I just love this little pincushion! This has given me a few more ideas to corral some of the other little sewing bits and bobs, that always seem to get lost.
Hope you enjoyed!!
Lynne
