Hello, Friends!
I'm Kathy, and I'm thrilled to be here as a guest designer today!
After a long, dreary winter, nothing compares with the joy we find in the beauty of springtime! There are fresh fields to explore, sweet flowers to pick, tiny new friends to discover and the playful March wind to tease and toss our kites on high. With this in mind, I decided to welcome spring by creating a kite themed floral banner using beautiful Petaloo flowers and the March pages from Graphic 45's Children's Hour Collection.
Once I had stitched my designer paper to a burlap base and coordinating ribbons, it was time to create a field of flowers. I dug into my stash of Petaloo blossoms to mix and match colors and textures that would make this banner come to life. Soft Amber Velvet Pansies, Vibrant Pistachio Burlap Flowers, and elegant Lilac/Purple Chantilly Mixed Blooms were combined with Petite Darjeeling flowers, Yellow Burlap Butterflies and Purple Calla Lilies and Berries to create a flower filled landscape.
The focal point of the banner is the center panel, where I fussy cut the image from the March Ephemera panel and framed it with chipboard that had been painted and glittered. On either side of the flag you'll find ribbons that are topped with matching Chantilly Blossoms and tiny tags from the Graphic 45 chipboard tag sheet.
I tucked cheery flowers and butterflies around this sunny image of a little girl getting ready to fly her kite. The image was backed with a Petaloo Doily that I painted with Picket Fence Distress Paint.
To carry out the kite theme, the final flag in the banner features a hand made paper kite, decked out with Petaloo Fancy Trims. The little bird was created with a paper punch, and I even added a fancy floral tail to my kite, just for fun.
If you'd like to learn how to make your own banner, you can find a tutorial in my blog archives at Kathy by Design. The papers and images are different of course, but the process is the same.
Thanks so much for inviting me to share here today! Wishing you all blue skies, sunny breezes and fields of flowers!
Cheerio,
kathy
