Hello everyone! Tammy here with you today to share a clearance aisle make-over featuring Petaloo and Marion Smith Designs that would make a perfect gift for mom on Mother's Day!
I began with a wooden box that I picked up at Target on clearance after Valentine's Day. Even though I didn't have a use for it at the time, I knew I couldn't pass it up for just $3! I saved it in my crafty stash until just the right time. I decided that it would make a lovely Mother's Day gift when combined with the oh-so-pretty Petaloo Botanica collection and the soft vintage colors and designs of the Marion Smith Motley collection.
I chose a color that would coordinate with the original color of the box so that I wouldn't have to paint it. I cut pieces of the pink side of the Carmie pattern paper to fit the sides of the box. I covered the lid of the box with the white side of the Scarlet piece of pattern paper. I cut three ephemera images out of the Collage and Not Too Shabby pieces of pattern paper. I inked, curled, and tore the images to add texture and a worn look.
I added cream Petaloo trim around the edge of the box lid.
I layered and adhered the pieces of paper ephemera to the lid. I clustered assorted Petaloo Botanica flowers, leaves, and berries together on top of and under the paper ephemera.
I also added a small snipit of ribbon tucked into the cluster of flowers. I added assorted bits of metal embellishments by Tim Holtz tucked into the flower cluster.
Isn't the finished box top so pretty? It will make such a lovely gift. Best of all, it only took me just over an hour to make it and made great use of my clearance aisle box!
