SO let's get started with our "SWEETEST" Petaloo DT member...Tammy Tutterow!
Hello everyone! It is Tammy here with you today! Today I am sharing a home decor piece I created featuring Petaloo and Simple Stories Homespun collection. I LOVE all things shabby and vintagey and this collection by Simple Stories is just that. I fell in love with it the second I saw it. I love that Petaloo has embellishments that are the perfect compliment to the collection too. It made creating this piece so easy!
I started with a wood shadowbox frame that I covered with Homespun pattern papers. I used Mod Podge to cover the inside and outside of the box. In the center of the box, I added tons of layers of elements to add lots of depth and texture to my project. That is part of the fun of home decor projects, you can get as lumpy and bumby with them as you'd like without worrying about it fitting inside your page protector!
At the cetner of my project I have a large heart that I cut from pattern paper. I layered the paper heart with Phoomph and cotton batting. I added machine stitching around the heart and through the center as a "faux" quilt. I also layered a smaller die cut heart with batting and stitched it as well. I layered it with different elements from the Bits & Pieces pack on top of the larger heart.
Under the heart there are more layers of paper elements as well as two sticker borders. I added cardstock to the backs of the stickers to give them stability so that the could be used as dimensional elements. I sewed a strip of beige Petaloo ribbon on top of the scallop sticker to add extra texture.
I clustered leaves from the Botanica Berry Clusters with berries and Robin Egg Blue Mixed Blossoms next to the edge of the heart and by the sticker borders.
I brushed the flowers with Vintage Photo Distress Ink to give them an aged look and to tie them in to the inked edges of the other elements.
The final touch for this piece was to add a small die cut heart and sticker to the bottom front corner of the shadowbox. I loved adding the sentiment "made with love" to the piece. I think I will add that sentiment to projects more often. It seems to sum up the reason for creating, doesn't it?

This is such a beautiful piece of art! I love all of the small details and the way you quilted the heart. I think I would like to learn more about Phoomph. I have heard of it a couple of times and it looks interesting. You did a wonderful job making all of the embellishments come together!
