Color Me Crazy Unity Stamps Day 3

A long time Unity stamp fan, I was thrilled when I heard that Petaloo was teaming up with them!  I just loved the way the flowers in my Unity stamp, Wishing You Joy, looked with the Color Me Crazy flowers that I colored in the same way.

First I stamped the image of the flowers on some paper by Simple Stories.  Then using some Tim Holtz Distress Inks and water, I painted the flowers in, just letting the color flow like you might see in a watercolor painting.  Then I stamped the sentiment and painted the grass.  When I brushed the grass color on, I used Peeled Paint, and this time I didn't use any water, just dry brushed it on.

The next step was to color the Petaloo chipboard corner.  I first inked it with some Distress Ink in Worn Lipstick for the base color.  Then I sprayed Heidi Swapp's spray in Primrose on it to give it some shine.  Then I took the sprayer out of the bottle and with my finger flicked it so that small sprays of color landed on my stamped paper.  I think that it really worked well with the watercolor feel of the card.

Then I started coloring the flowers.  I used a few from the Color Me Crazy All White Recycled Cotton Darjeeling Med/Minis collection.  I squirted some water in the tops of the Mustard Seed and Worn Lipstick Distress Ink lids and then dipped my paintbrush in it.  Then I rubbed my paintbrush in the inks and painted the flowers.  I kept building up the color until the flower was covered.  At that point, my flowers were pretty wet, so I dryed them with my Ranger heat gun, and fluffed them with my fingers at the same time.

The Color Me Crazy line of flowers are so versatile.  Don't be afraid to just test out different inks, sprays, and paint on them.  Have a great day, and thanks for stopping by!

Color Me Crazy Unity Stamps Day 2

Today is the 2nd day of our team-up with Unity Stamps.  We have been coloring all month with the Color Me Crazy collections.  Now we get to stamp and ink this week so lets' see who's up today. 

Today we have this darling card desinged by

This card was made using the Color Me Crazy Value Bag Medium Layers in white. 

I colored them with blue and yellow color shine (the Color Shine we used from last week's team-up) and inked the edges in a light brown. I also layered my flowers to make them fuller and added a brad from the Coordinating Brads and Trims line to hold the layers together. 

To acheive this effect for a fuller flower.  I layered a few small flowers together and then picked the same style flower, but in a larger size and held them together with a brad.  You can lightly spray them with water so they look more life like before you color them.

Color Me Crazy Unity Stamps DAY 1

Welcome to another fun week of Color Me Crazy week.  We are teaming up with UNITY STAMPS and you won't believe some of the projects both design teams have come up with. There's so many different types of techniques you can acheive with our Color Me Crazy collection and when you throw stamps in the mix.  There's no stopping the creativity!

Unity stamps have long been my favorite companies to design with, so when I found out we were going to team up with them, I was so happy!  I have lots of their beautiful stamps, and I decided to work with one of their Donna Downey designed stamp sets called Imperfection is Beauty.  Truly love the sentiments in this set! And what better flowers to pair up these pretty stamps, than Petaloo's Color Me Crazy Paintable flowers, so that is just what I did.  Here is my pretty card.

For my card shape I used Spellbinders dies and Heidi Swap Vintage Chic papers.  I stamped the large flower from the stamp set on the background of my focal panel.  I sprayed my gorgeous Color Me Crazy Wild Roses with Heidi Swap's Color Shine sprays.  I didn't spray them all the way, as I kind of wanted the white to come through still, since I was going for more of a shabby chic look.  The simple reason why I love the Color Me Crazy Paintable flowers is that I have control of how I want my flowers to look.

Once I was done with spraying my flowers I worked with the super adorable Birdhouse chipboard, which I painted with white paint to match the shabby chic look and added a white rose brad on the top hole.  It was just a perfect little touch, I thought.  I also added a white lace trim to go with my card.  As a final touch I added a pretty seaside color Darjeeling Butterfly.

Color Me Crazy...with Ranger and Jill Foster

Hi All!  It's Jill Foster here and I'm so honored to be sharing a couple of projects that feature Color Me Crazy flowers with Ranger products.

The new Ranger Distress Paints work beautifully with all of the flowers in the Color Me Crazy line.  I've used a variety of flowers including Multicolored Centers, Darjeeling, Asst. Flower Layers, Wild Roses, Canvas Flowers, and Mixed Florals on this mixed media wooden heart.  

I've also made a card using the same techniques...

I just love the grungy distressed look of the paints on these flowers!

Color Me Crazy with Heidi Swapp Day 6

Today is our last day sharing all the wonderful techniques you can acheive using Color Me Crazy flowers and Heidi Swapp's Color Shine.  We have enjoyed working Heidi Swapp's products and want to thank her for her generosity during this team-up.  Our deisgn team had a blast using her products along with our Color Me Crazy flowers.  What a treat!

I always love creating with CMC flowers - you can paint them, mist them or keep them just as they are, they are perfect for any project! Together with Heidi Swapps products these flowers really shows off - everything goes so well together and once I started creating I could hardly stop!

First I want to show you a layout where I've used papers and embellishment from Heidi Swapp's No Limit collection with CMC Flower Layers and Darjeeling flowers.

I started with the background: I painted with gesso, used a stencil and texture paste, then misted with Heidi Swapp Color Shine - colors gold and tinsel. Then I layered a few pieces of paper and my photo on top of a piece of cheesecloth.

Then I pulled out lots of Petaloo CMC flowers and used the same colors of mists to color them. Some with just gold, some with just tinsel and some with both. The chipboard flourishes tucked into my large flower cluster I painted with gesso and then used a Heidi Swapp stamp (the word "Today") to create a pattern.

I love Heidi Swapps Buzz Words - so pretty and fun!

I attached some Petaloo brads - color Teal - here and there. They are so cute!

Finally I painted with gesso and texture paste a bit here and there :)

After making the layout I still had some misted flowers left, so I created a card:

I would also like to show you the process when I colored the flowers and lace seen on the card:

I have used CMC Flower Layers and Darjeeling flowers. The mists are Heidi Swapp's Color Shine, and I have used the colors Gold and Tinsel. I use a plastic box when I mist, you will see why later.

I first sprayed the flower layer with Tinsel color.

Then I sprayed with Gold color on top, which gives the flower a beautiful shine.

I then sprayed the Darjeeling flowers, one with Gold and one with Tinsel. As you can see, there's quite some wet mist around the flowers since I used a plastic box to spray in, the left over mist I used like this:

I took the flower layer and held the edges in the wet mist and let the flower soak up more mist. You can see that the tips of the flower are a bit darker with a golden edge. I first let the flower soak up some tinsel color, then gold color. It turned out beautiful!

But, I wasn't ready just yet, I still had lots of mist left in my plastic box. So, I used it on a piece of Petaloo lace and the cheesecloth I used beneath the flowers, I just put the lace and cloth into the plastic box and let it soak up the mist. I also put my Darjeeling flowers upside down in the mist leftovers for a while. The possibilites are endless and I have only used two colors!

Color Me Crazy Indeed

We have been teasing you for a few days so we can get you excited for the most exciting week and it's almost here. Starting tomorrow we will be starting our Altered Art week with Heidi Swapp.  We are so excited to share all the colorful creations from both design teams.

These Color Me Crazy Darjeeling flowers come in a mix so you can cluster or use for various projects.

We asked Alice how she likes to use the Color Me Crazy flowers and this is what she said.

"I love the mix of flowers and styles you get in this set. The Color Me Crazy flowers give me so much room to play with. You can use these flowers in a cluster, like what I did here or spread them over a layout spritz with Heidi Swapp's Color Shine. I love that these Color Me Crazy flowers are white because I don't have to color them either. I can use them as they are...cool!"

No Limits with Color Me Crazy

We are having a great time sharing some sneak peeks before the big day on Monday, May, 6.  It's going to be a fabulous Color Me Crazy week using Heidi Swapp's Color Shine and products.  Petaloo's Color Me Crazy collection (CMC) will be altered all week long with tips and techniques.

Here's sneak peek from Petaloo's design team member, Alice Carman.

Alice created this vintage card with Petaloo's Color Me Crazy chipboard & leaves.  She used Heidi Swapp's Color Shine in Gold and Chartrouse.  Love the shine you get with the sparys.  The great part is that the Color Me Crazy product is made from 100% recycled materials so not only is it a GREEN (AKA Recyclable) product, it also doesn't tear or bleed trhough...cool!

TIP #1: If you don't want to spray the leaves you can use your favorite embossing folder to dry emboss images onto the leaves.

TIP #2: You can pour out the colors from the sprays on to a color palate and use a paint brush to color with for those of you who want more control as to where the color is applied.

TIP #3: You can stamp and powder emboss too on the CMC flat flowers.

Color Me Crazy with Heidi Swapp

Starting Monday, May 6th we kick off the party with Heidi Swapp.  We are going to have a great week ahead of us with techniques on how to use Petaloo's Color Me Crazy collections along side Heidi Swapp's NEW Color Shine and products. We have so much to share so check us out daily.

Today's card is designed by Petaloo team member, Alice Carman using Embossed Daisies from the Color Me Crazy collection. 

Alice stamped on the Embossed Daisies and used Heidi's Color Shine to add color to her centerpiece.  Alice has a really neat tip that she picked up while playing with the Color Shine and the Color Me Crazy flowers. 

Here's what she said:

TIP #1: You can use your favorite stamp to add texture and patterns onto Petaloo's white flowers. If you want to use the sprays.  I suggest you spray first and then stamp so that it doesn't smear the ink.

TIP #2: I started with Mint Green from the Color Shine collection and I found out that if you start with a light color like Mint Green and then spray the Teal over it.  The color becomes more vibrant and a little darker.  It's almost like you created a new color.  You can do the same with Mustard/Gold and Peach/Primrose. Try it out!

We have a huge line of Color Me Crazy flowers in different styles.  We also have chipboard, ribbon trims and fabric flowers.  The possibilities are endless!!
