June Guest Desinger, Shellye McDaniel

Hello, I'm Shellye McDaniel and I am delighted to be the June Guest Designer with Petaloo!  I've had several team-up opportunities between Petaloo and other companies and each experience reminded me how much I truly love working with Petaloo products. I was equally excited to learn that Petaloo would be teaming up with Graphic 45 this month in celebrating all things Summer, patriotic and beach!  For my project today I'm sharing a grapevine wreath that I dressed up for the season...it contains stars, red, white & blue and a beach theme...it just says "Welcome, Summer!"

I started off with two pre-cut stars that I had on hand.  I used the backs of the Graphic 45 "Place in Time" papers to cover the stars.  After machine-stitching around the perimeter, I spritzed each with a little walnut spray and distressed the edges.

After deciding on the focal piece to cut out from the "July" portion of the collection, I used the remainder of the patterned paper as the backdrop for two smaller stars and the postcard print.  I backed it with a thin chipboard and then stitched in place.

Now for the embellishments!  Before attaching the postcard to the base, I added one of the metal brackets to the bottom.  A beautiful swag of Darjeeling Flowers makes a nice border, followed by a paper pennant "held up" by two of the sweet sea shell pins.  I edged the bottom in three rows of the Paprika Crochet Trim

Next, I punched two small holes at the ends of each large star and attached to the grapevine wreath with a thick gauged wire.  A large burlap bow to the side and my wreath is ready for hanging and welcoming Summer guests!

I thoroughly enjoyed working with these gorgeous colors and getting a chance to share with all of you Petaloo fans!

Petaloo Welcomes Denise Hahn as our New Design Team Member!

Denise has been our Guest Designer for 2-3 months and her work has certainly paid off.  Petaloo would like to introduce our NEWEST Design Team Memeber, Denise Hahn.

Here's some information about Denise:

My name is Denise Hahn and I am a mixed media artist and crafter from Long Beach California. I have always loved creating and I get my creativity from my Mom and Grandmother. They always had elaborately decorated packages under the Christmas tree along with handmade decorations. They also sewed amazing Halloween costumes for us. I was always in awe of what they could create and soon started joining them. But somehow I lost sight of creating and for many years let it slip away. Then I was introduced to scrapbooking from a friend and I have never looked back. I consider myself a crafter of all trades; I do paper crafting, mixed media, altered art, and jewelry. But I am always looking to learn new things. My work has been featured in Jewelry Affaire and Somerset publications, and Romantic Homes. I live in Long Beach, Ca with my husband and our two lovable pit bulls Juno and Pipi. When I am not crafting I Play roller derby for the Orange County Roller Girls (my Derby name is Crafty of course!), and skiing in Colorado.

Now that you met Denise, here's what she's been up to.

Fathers Day has been bittersweet for me since my father passed away many years ago. But there is a "Daddy" in my house! As the "parents" of two pets, we can still get away with celebrating Mothers and Fathers day! But Dads are tough! Especially for us crafters- so I created something that will please us both. I altered a little burlap storage wall hanger I got at Daiso (Have you ever been to a Daiso? It is a Japanese $1.50 Store- amazing goodies). Petaloos Textured Elements go AMAZING with burlap, especially the Amber ones I used in this project. I paired these up with some Authentique Papers from the Strong Collection and ended up with something we will both like; something lovely for me to look at that's filled with goodies for my Daddy!

How fun to hang this up and surprise Daddy with? It has tickets to a concert, A sweet handmade card, and a little gift to open

I surrounded with the Mixed Textured Layers 12x12 in Amber- I arranged them asymmetrically and layers them with Forget Me Nots in Antique Green and Gold

This Authentique Strong Collection is Fathers Day themed, but also has a lot of just "Dad" stuff. It pairs great with the Amber flowers. I used a Petaloo Vintage Label Plate (I am IN LOVE with these!) with a cut out from the Authentique line behind it.

Okay so you may see a little Color me Crazy back there in that tag. There is a little tutorial on how I colored that flower over ar Clearsnap HERE. The Frames are Authentique Double Sided Die cuts run through a Xyron Creatopia with Fabric Adhesive

This last pocket has my little rescue Pippi on it, but look at all the texture she is surrounded by. Don't be afraid to mix other Flowers from other collections as I did on the bottom. The ink is Colorbox Chalk Limited Edition Cozy

Okay I can't resist making a cute banner for anything! This one was soooo easy. Just some Twine, Forget Me Nots, Authentique Paper, and some Hot Glue

To Create this Banner, I lined everything up first and strung the pennants- then I put a dab of hot glue on one side of the flower and sandwiched them together- so easy!

So who says flowers can't be for Dads? What will you flower up for yours?

A Gift for a....

I created a card and a canvas which would be a wonderful gift for a Grad or a Dad using the Strong Collection from Authentique and some LOVERLY Petaloo blooms!!!

My canvas had begun as a card face and morphed into a canvas.

The new Textured Flowers and the new Penny Lane collection are just PERFECT TOGETHER.

A few Darjeeling flowers nestled in were just the perfect additon. A bit of tule and jute made the flower cluster complete.

The matching card was created with the same BEAUTIFUL Authentique papers, Textured flowers and Penny Lane blooms!

Father's Day Gift Idea

Father's Day is fast approaching and so I made this gift for my husband to hang in his office.  The pictures are of our kids and I have embellished the rectangle openings with Petaloo flowers and Authentique papers.

I love how the simple repitition of a certain element is so powerful.  In a couple of the openings I put two or three Petaloo flowers in a row.  Simple but beautiful!

I also got some Petaloo chipboard pieces out and inked them up with Tim Holtz's Distress Inks.  They really take the color well and added some fun interest as well as dimension.

The Authentique paper had some great phrases on one of the papers so I was able to cut them up and place them in key places.

The corner punch outs really gave the frame a finished look.

I know that the kids will be thrilled with the gift as well as my husband who is truly one of the best dads in the world.

June is looking good!

We have had a busy month here on the Petaloo blog.  It's been an Altered Color Me Crazy month and we hope you have enjoyed all the different team-ups and ideas.  June is right around the corner and I can't believe how fast the months are going. 

Just thought I'd share a couple of things we are planning on doing for June.  We are working with these two amazing companies for June.  Come check us out while we create for the coming holidays like Father's Day, Graduation and Fourth of July.

I just wanted to share with you

my creation made with Petaloo Color Me Crazy Flowers

and Ranger goodness!!

But before we go any further....If I had a bucket list....this would be right up there at the top of my list....the HONOR and PRIVILEGE to participate in Melt Art Mania for Ranger/Tim Holtz. When I was asked to join such a FANTABULOUS group of such SUPER CREATIVE PEOPLE....I was humbled!!

The wheels began to turn!! Now, if you know ANYTHING about me....you know, I am all about flowers....so I decided I would pull out my Melt Pot,some Clear Beeswax and a few Petaloo Flowers....and let the games begin!! 

Here is what I came up with.....

The Wild Blossoms Darjeeling Collection by Petaloo I used......began as white flowers. I colored them with a Wild Honey Distress Reinker Mixture, a dab or Fired Brick Distress Re~inker ink, a spritz of Dylusions ~ Ink Spray....and dipped 'em in a pan of Clear ~ Melt Art Beeswax....

VOILA!

and about the "dippin" process.

Look is Guest Designing for us today!  It's our very own, Lynne Forsythe.  I'm sure you are already familiar with Lynne's work, but did you know she also designs for Splash of Color?  Today Lynne is going to share with us what she does with our Color Me Crazy collection using Splash of Color products.

I chose to use the Silks Acrylic Glaze

I chose to use my periennial garden as the
inspiration for my creative piece....

Color Me Crazy with Copic and Sharon Harnist

We have a couple of GUEST DESIGNERS joining us this week from Copic Markers and Splash of Color.  We are super duper excited to see what they will share with us while using our COLOR ME CRAZY flowers. 

Let's start things off with Sharon Harnist from Copic Markers.

Hi, I'm Sharon Harnist, Copic design team member, and I was so excited to be asked to be a part of Color Me Crazy Week using products by two awesome companies -- Petaloo and Copic!  Of course, Petaloo's color Me Crazy white products are a perfect match to be able to custom color with Copic markers and Copic's Various Ink Refills, which you are probably already familiar with (and I'll have a project tomorrow that showcases those Copic products).  So today I thought I would introduce you to a few other Copic products you might not be as familiar with . . . Copic's X-Press It Clear Gel Glue, 1/4-inch Double-Sided High Tack Tissue Tape, and 1/2-inch Double Sided Foam Mounting Tape.

Here's my project and how it came together . . . a 5-inch hanging wall decor' piece:

I started with a 5-inch scalloped hanging wall plaque from the clearance bin of my local craft store and cut a 4-inch piece of patterned paper to cover the existig center image.  I used Copic's X-Press It Clear Gel Glue to adhere the paper to the plaque:

Next, I stamped JustRite Papercraft's Birthday Vintage Labels Four onto an Inchie Arts 3-inch black Art Square and white heat embossed it to create a popular chalkboard look. The center sentiment was stamped with white chalk ink and some smudges added for a realistic chalkboard look:

I used Copic's 1/2-inch Double Sided Foam Mounting Tape to adhere the black art square to the plaque and give it some dimension and lift -- you'll love how well this foam tape holds and since it comes on a roll, you can cut exactly the amount of tape you need for any project:

To adhere the pretty Petaloo Gypsies Multi-Colored Centers and Jeweled Florettes to the edge of the plaque, I used Copic's 1/4-inch Double-Sided High Tack Tissue Tape. This tissue tape is perfectly clear and tears easily with your fingers, the white liner removes easily, and it has a very high tack which is perfect to hold Petaloo's paper flowers.  I just tore the amount I needed for each side of the square and placed it along the edge of the patterned paper, then pressed the flowers into place. It was easy to find just the right flower center gemstone colors I needed to match the existing pink ribbon hanger and green hanging bauble, with the variety of colors you get in these multi-colored packages of flowers!

Next, to make use of the exposed areas of the tape, I sprinkled transparent glitter all over it.  Finally, I used one of Petaloo's CMC All White Butterflies as an accent on the top of the sign and chose Copic YG23 Sketch marker to easily color it to match the green gemstones:

The great thing about Color Me Crazy flowers is you can layer them and create these clusters of blossoms. I loved using Heidi Swapp's products and Color Shine.

You can see how easy these Color Me Crazy flowers layer.  By adding the brads it gives the flowers even more color and texture.

Heidi's adorable embellishments really helped make my layout take flight with the flags and stickers.

I've used the water color painting technique to paint the CMC flowers. To do this, I've used some water based paints and inks. After painting, I've added a layer of color shine mist to give some sparkle to it.

Today I want to share with you a great idea for a Mothers Day Gift. I converted a regular matted picture frame into a lovely shadow box for my Mom. I used Petaloo Color Me Crazy Flowers, Heidi Swapp Color Shine Sprays and her Vintage Chic Paper Collection. Here is a video with a few tips and tricks on spraying your flowers:
