At Christmas time I like giving my friends little things that I make.  They often comment on the hand crafted items that I have on display at my house so I know that they will be very excited to receive a one of a kind handmade gift from me.  But budgets are tight during the holiday season so I have found ways to make small gifts for everyone on my list that won't break my budget.

The gift that you see here is one that I made with Petaloo flowers and Canvas Corp's stretched canvases.  I used a well known and a special favorite quote of mine, "If friends were flowers, I'd pick you." 

The first thing that I did was to over the canvas with a little paper from Authentique.  I cut a large scallop square with my Silhouette Cameo and then cut a square piece of patterened paper to fit inside of it as the background of my art.

Then I started layering flowers on the canvas.  These flowers are some of my most favorite flowers that Petaloo makes.  I have been known to hoard these. :)  But I was glad to find the perfect project to use them on.  They look so good with the canvas Corp. canvas frame.

In the package the flowers are originally white.  I wanted to give them some pop and depth so I used some Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Faded Blue Jeans and Scattered Straw to color them.  I just dipped a medium size flat paintbrush into water and a few drops of the ink and gently rubbed the brush along the ends of the petals.  Use more water for a subtle look and less water for more color.

Here is one last look at the quote that I put on the canvas.  I used the sticker letters that go with the Authentique collection but also cut out the words friends and you from my Silhouette to highlight those words.  Thanks for stopping by today.  I know you will be getting lots of great ideas for gifts for everyone on your list that are $25 and under to make!
